“When I hear new music coming into my head, its mission is integrated into its notes. It basically tells me how it wants to be.” – John McLaughlin. From Page 1 of the book “Follow Your Heart – John McLaughlin song by song.”
@JersiMuse Its actually Genii when referring to multiple people which are genius. But when referring to one person with multiple qualities of genius, its geniuses.
man I love the way they improvise with making sounds...you can use alot and in special ways to make the weirdest sounds, and it might even sound perfect to the setting! like this! loved it. 5/5
When I got "Que Alegria", the album this is from, I was working at a jazz station in Tennessee at the time. I loved this album, listened to it constantly. He came to concert at MTSU in the early '90s in support of this album and he was a total gentleman. Fantastic concert.
Check out most of the bass solo videos on youtube - that's the theme, IGNORING THE BASSIST! Oh well, we didn't get into this for fame...it must be the...girls?
@Harmless71453 Agreed! But all of them are so fucking Out of This World, remember seeing them in Gothenburg 1993 or something like that : ) Mindblowing Experience however ! ! !
Yes , Obviously in Paris, they speak French, they don't care if you're talking another language they keep speaking french... but I'm French , I don't consider my Language as a "Mighty " thing lol !
That's just that French is one of the most difficult languages to speak , and even in France many people doesn't master it FULLY, and since it's WAY harder to speak than English, if you're not talking french, you don't deserve they do any effort for you...that's how they think about it ^^
But we're very Impressed by Englisgh people speaking french ;) , it's very hard even for us.
Yesterday I jammed with an american bass player, we talked in English....the young french generation is very open-minded you know......but yeah there are still many old arrogant guys thinking if you're not talking french you're just shit.
It may seem rude that someone would respond to an English spoken question in the native tongue of the country your in, but it may be that they feel you need to learn the language. I know Americans that feel this way about non-english speaking visitors. I'm not one to mind any language. I need a translator if it's not English.
@Slayerplsko - Did you make any effort to speak French to the Parisians? my French is woeful but because I took a phrase-book and made an effort they were friendly. If you don't make an effort they deem it rude, which is quite understandable.
Me consta hermano.
Gambale is a dwarf compared to JM on acoustic. He's sloppy (listen to Eternal Child), John's lines are infinitely more complex and his left hand fluidity is untouchable. Never heard Gambale playing anything as subtle and beautiful as John at 3:27-3:32
Thanx for your comment, monoidal. You're right - here we see and hear three giants playing together. Dwarfs and envious cleverdicks just drop their stupid comments in public forums...
I am also of the opinion that your comment is gibberish, except that you think it is dull. This is very clear, and WRONG! Well, not so much wrong as missing the boat. You are all wet!
This is an Awesome Trio!!! If anybody wants to critize Mclaughlin or the trio then lets hear one of yours or your trio? I f you can do better we are all ears...and would love to hear it.

@Spartanmagik666; JM's playing humbles pretty much everyone -- that certainly doesn't make the music you make worthless.
I sat front row for one of his concerts decades ago; the man and his guitar were like one. Music is a language for him and he's completely fluent.
BTW, he has a series of instructional videos in which he shares a lot of his 'secrets'.

From my personal experience, many of them find it insulting or what to speak any language but the mighty Francais.
When I was in Paris, I didn't manage to get a single word of them in English. I spoke in ENglish, they answered in French - what the hell is that?!
