Here`s what happened: The patents we had in the last 2 decades are too few, so the G8 countries are almost equally economically and technologically strong. Therefore, as they have realized, there is a chance we could have another world war soon, as the powers have no reason to fear each other. So they decided to declare a bunch of things we have had around for ages PATENTS and claim them! It`s quite logical that our capitalist society would eventually come to this...

@ZephyreSyx here's what i think i have figured out in the past couple of days. Its a bunch of big but in a way small laws , so that if ACTA and PIPA pass , the government does not really care if SOPA passes. Its a distraction , in my opinion

ACTA passed in October in that the treaty was signed by several countries including the USA. It has NOT been ratified yet! So we can still stop it.

@johnrock882 I don't know everything about ACTA , but I do know it is not country specific , its some kind of treaty that any country can optionally agree to sign. And all the negotions on ACTA have been done in secret. And BUSH and OBAMA classified it as national security. This bill started in 2006 and I just found out about it a couple days ago
