3 of the sports best drivers going at it, the first nascar race I attended in person, Earnhardt won, ESPN's coverage was great, racecars looked like racecars

Boy oh boy, I was at this race. Did it ever rain! All day friday and saturday, it finally cleared up in the afternoon. No one thought they'd get the whole race in, but they ran until way late in the race w.o. a caution. Then Earnhardt dumped Jeff Burton when Burton was driving that Raybestos car, and I think it was in the pits during that yellow flag that Rusty got screwed up & Earnhardt passed him. In the qualifying, AJ Foyt tried & missed the race. Only time I saw Foyt drive in person.
I remember Rusty commenting on how he ran Earnhardt down and couldn't get around him because he picked up the aero push as he closed up to him. And it looks like the same thing happened to D.J. as he caught Rusty.
Indianapolis is THE hardest track to actually race a stock car because of the different braking zones. It is almost like running a road course, somewhat like Pocono. Notice that both of those tracks are relatively flat.
Because of the rain delay our local affiliate did not broadcast this race live. Had to wait until Sunday evening to watch it. A great 1-2 finish none-the-less.
Unfortunately Dale is no longer around for us to enjoy, but we can always enjoy reliving what he did while he was with us. RIP Dale.

No surprise that Dale won the Brickyard 400. David Regan's got a good spot for tomorrow, starting on point.

I'm rooting for Keselowski, and give Penske his first Brickyard win on Sunday

Second. Jeff Gordon won the first Brickyard 400 in 1994.
TyVulpine 2 years ago 3
Gordon was a boy then, Dale was the man!

Dale was, and always will be, The Man.

Good ole Chochlate Meyers?

no doubt, Earnhardt even gave everyone a hint in victory lane by saying, "I(car) ran better once I got the car out front."

rusty would have won this race if two cars didn't wreck in front of him in the pits.

Too bad I wasn't a NASCAR fan at the time that Dale won at Indy.

Most of the nation did not have live coverage via their ABC affiliate because of weather delays.

This was his biggest win without a restrictor plate.

Which win to Earnhardt was the Biggest, The Daytona 500 or The Brickyard 400?!!!!!
jamespic 4 years ago
Probably the 500. It only took Big E two tries to win the Brickyard, and 20 to win the Daytona 500.
TyVulpine 3 years ago
Really?!?! You must be simple. Earnhardt would have given this race up for the 500 anyday.
