I say let gay's get married, because the constitution says: life, liberty , and the pursuit of (happiness). Life : to be able to live with out persecution of others who are different and free to make choses of how they should live their lives. Happiness: Gays should have the ability .right and freedom to love who ever they want and live in a safe environment. so I say this they here, they queer, get use to it!
the right-wing used to use the bible as a basis for anti-miscegenation laws and amazingly for slavery as well. It's a question about equality and when we allow ourselves to be blinded by religion we cannot truly afford freedom, equality and justice to all. Gay marriage is a civil rights issue plain and simple.
If attempts to ban anti-miscegenation laws (laws banning interracial marriage) were left to the ballot some states right now (especially reliably republican states like Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Mississippi etc.) would still have those laws in place. Many times, the majority will not let the minority enjoy the same rights as them. it's a civil rights issue.
To place homosexual marriage rights in a category that is akin to African American civil rights is a far stretch. Marriage whether "hetero" or "homo" is a choice that in this country is made usually by 2 consenting adults. Being "Black" and born into a system in which your physical form is perpendicular to the social constructs of beauty and worthiness is not. Further more "Straights" and "Gays" can be racist independent of their sexual preference, so I personal do not see a correlation.
I did not say that gays cannot be racist. You should know black people can be equally as prejudiced as white people in matters regarding race, religion, creed, sexual orientation or physical ability. When you talk about people's 'forms' being perpendicular to the social constructs of worthiness, you forget that that is not exclusive to race. Discrimination based on sexual orientation still denies its victims their civil rights.
You dont see a correlation between being gay and being black because you feel that you are hetero and you also feel that homosexuals choose to be that way. My question to you is this....Why do yo think gay people choose to be gay? Are you an expert on gay people?
Remember that many white 'christians' used their religion as a basis to reject interracial marriages as an abomination. Blacks especially must understand that religion was used by the white majority to reject them the equality that they demanded. Right now it may sound absurd but it is true.
A lot of people try to galvanize "Blacks" into a direction whether good or bad, by encouraging "Us" to go against the masses in order to fulfill their own purposes. Which usually yields them self centered results. For instance, to combat the "white Christian majority", why not encourage "Black People" to have more babies (heterosexual activity) while changing our value system into something that is more suitable for encouraging Life. Do "homos" fit into that picture? F.Y.I. I'm not Christian.
you must be one of those people who find no problem with abuses of others' civil rights as long as they do not identify with the victims of such abuse. Just because someone is discriminated against based on something other than race doesn't make the act less unjust. I brought up the 'white christian majority' issue to highlight how a majority can impose unjust discrimination against a minority and hence to rebuff your comment stating that such laws must be left to a vote.
just say that you are against homosexual activity all together because it can be inferred from your comments, and another thing, black people already have enough children, black men just need to stop abandoning their children and take responsibility for the children they had a hand in bringing to this world, the high percentage of black single mothers speaks for itself....
You know what, thats a great suggestion. That sounds much better than giving them up for adoption to 2 men or 2 women. Thank you, for posting that comment because it proves my point about people galvanizing Us without out any true respect for Us.
and what's wrong with giving children who were given away a chance to be brought up by 2 loving individuals that will look after their best interests? of course after undergoing the same rigorous vetting that straight couples have to be put through. Black people are lobbied by gay rights advocates because they believe that they understand the injustice in denying people their civil rights because they are considered 'different' by the majority.
so...using the bible to discriminate is okay? the bible also says its a sin to wear clothing made of two types of fabric. i wonder if any of the woman in this report are wearing fabric such as this. also, im jewish! why does biblical ideology have to dictate my life?

a persons personal religious preferences have no place in politics nor is it acceptable to impose personal beliefs on others.

But doesn't democracy give citizens the right to impose their personal view points on society? *voting!*
Also, the statement you made is coming from a moral view point.

The issue is a no-brainer. Legalise, equalise, and implement your constitution. Voters follow their leaders.

Why someone feels that imposing their religion upon others is a good basis for law is beyond me.
