i was pretty young in 1997 so i dont remember but im guessing titanic pretty much overshadowed tarantino's jackie brown when they came out at the same time. ironic he was saying that its all about timing.
Man, compared to his hyperkinetic first appearance on the Snyder show in 1996, QT here is uncharacteristically mellow ... but still fascinating to listen to !
to be honest i always saw quentin tarantino as a lazy director even considering Reservoir Dogs & Pulp Fiction. However after watching this I have got alot more insight into his inner workings which really is helping me change that opinion. Perhaps because of my age & I couldn't understand his style of directing (non-linear) I felt he just rushed his movies but I am pleasantly surprised by his work now. His originality is extraordinary, it kinda gives me hope that I can make it in the industry 2.
Wow, it sure was great watching this. I swear, I remember when Quentin appeared in '96 on Tom Snyder, and he said next time he's on the show he'd start off with how "ROCKY" was a milestone in cinema. I never did see this episode, and honestly since then I've always wondered what Quentin had to say about "ROCKY" and 70's cinema, as he's obviously a huge fan of film and always has something interesting to say. Finally over a decade later my curiousity's been satisfied. Thanks so much for posting!
love how tom leans in and gets so into the conversation like he is really really interested! i miss toms show a lot

He praises Rocky on an interview with Charlie Rose as well. I agree - Rochy is a damn good film.

Around 6:30 they talk about low budget films making lots of money. Funny to think that "Blair Witch Project" would come out 2 years later.

if you got the product, someone will find you. Getting the product is the hard part. Paul Castro told me that.
