The cop was convicted for "involuntary manslaughter", the least severe charge but still a felony. His life as a cop is over. Like most cops, he as zero marketable skills, and terrible people skills, so he's going to serve time and then work at minimum wage. Police should invest in issuing weapons that physically require an active intention of an officer to shoot said weapon before it can be discharged (a thumb toggle that must be pressed in and held locked in order to un-safety the gun), then there would be no more excuses of "accidential" firings as an officer would have to both draw and (with intent) push down and hold the safety toggle in order to fire, thus removing any future claims by police of accidential shootings of innocent civilians.
