what do they base while giving scores? doesnt a judge has to be an experienced wushu performer in order to qualify such position? wushu is more like a chinese thing, it will take more time for it to spread.
the judges usually are experienced in performing wushu. they base their scores upon strict rules which can be found youtube when searching for 'wushu judging methods'.
There were different weight classes and different styles. Look up 'Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008' on Wikipedia for the results, if you havent already. Sorry, for the late answer.
I think Wushu is a greater sport then Olympics. Olympics is a primitive sport who promote freaks. People who participate in Olympics have a freak nature towards to a specific sport, like the swimmer who has double size lungs and longer arms. We need a better sport in modern era who develop not just the body but the mind too and Wushu is the one. Olympic games are nothing compare to Wushu
where's the wu shu olympics then?? its denied by the IOC....
its one big china fake... nice for the practicioners now.. but how about 4 years later.. even gun shooting is an olympic sport, but wu shu has like like 90% more practicioners over the world.
i agree, wushu means martial arts when literally translated, and it does have a rich history of combat use in chinese, therefore a more combative approach should be demonstrated in these "wushu" competitions instead of something that resembles a dance...
well ye, form is only a part wushu and doesn't constitute its whole. These competitions can be misleading to people who are not familiar with wushu. To say wushu is just for a'dance like' purpose is as foolish as saying that it is also just for fighting.
I'm not sure all the competitions are healthy for wushu as it forces people to specialise into either fighting or form or whatever and ignores the fact it is an art for personal development rather than just for exhibition;fighting or 'dancing'
Art? Maybe . "Martial"? No.

This video is great, but it makes 武术(wushu) seem more like a performance than a combat style... We should have competitive 武术 competitions...

wushu means martial arts, it is clearly stated it's only an art..enjoying the art of wushu would be better than seeing the injuries of the component.

Actually the Chinese Charachter 術 should be translated into skill, so 武術 should be translated into martial skill. 武藝 is martial art

Art also means way, it's like art of love, you wouldn't only pretend lovemaking, you can also do it for real
Culinary Arts, doesn't mean you'll only make food for beauty, it should taste delicious
