  • 1:33 and i already know about wo3 and ni3 etc and how to say them and what they mean, so far, good :)

  • @BeAuTiFuLlOvEdNbLeSs They/Them is ta1men 他们 (if you add 们 /men/ to wo3, it means We/Us, to ni3, it's the plural of You. ;)

If you have in mind the question "What do they mean?", it's "ta1men yi4wei4zhe shen2me?" (他们意味着什么?)

    Hope it helps. =)

  • @askbenny is this mandarin: 它是确定MS阿什利,因为你是一个伟大的老师。

  • @craaazyish That can't be recognized from the characters, because the dialects have the same characters, they only read it differently. (I may be wrong, but I believe I'm not. =D)

  • I'm currently learning Mandarin, Korean and Japanese. My Japanese is at an intermediate level but my Mandarin and Korean is still very basic. I only know a couple of phrases (can't write accents on English keyboard)

Ni hao. Wo shi Richard. Qing wen nin gui xing? Hen gao xing jian dao ni. Zai jian!

I can only write in Pinyin for now but soon will write properly. Sometimes get confused with words like Coffee as it's very similar in all languages

    Mandarin - Ka fei

    Korean - Koppi

    Japanese - Kohii

  • these are the languages what I also learn :D

I mean I try to learn..

and my Japanese is better than the others

    (and I'm Hungarian)

  • doesnt "xiang" mean to want too?

  • kewl! my mom is chinese and viet but idk y my dad jsut hates chinese(hes full viet) so he wont let my mom sign up for classes, so i told her ill finda way to learn and BOOM came youtube :) xie xie benny

  • bu yong xie~!

    Happy new year~!

  • xie xie benny.

  • thanks you

  • bu ke qi!

  • =O That was so fast. I got it, but I think it's better for me to learn a bit slower with more examples. This was helpful though. Now I can understand a bit more what people are saying in the TW dramas. x)

  • Good to hear! Keep learning with me.

  • ni hao benny

    i have a question

what is the mandarin word of press on?

and also what is pin yin?

anyway i really like the way you teach people here in youtube.!

    goodluck!

    and

    xie xie

  • Kristinagirl29, could you please give me the context of using the phrase press on. Because there are some variations in Chinese about using press.

  • Hi Benny. Thanks for posting the Basic Mandarin phrases here on Youtube. It is helpful and much easier to learn the language rather than reading it out from the phrasebook. Of course, like any other language, practise makes perfect, and you'd have to be around people who speak the language.

  • Hi Mjay22, thanks for your comment. I agree with you that language is all about practice and a good learning environment.

What were doing now is making Chinese learning easier and fun. If you have any questions, just let me know

  • Fantastic introductions. One question though, to what extent are regional dialects different across China, say, between Sichuan province and somewhere in the north like Harbin?

Would you be understood speaking classical Mandarin just about everywhere?

I am hopefully going on exchange to China next year but my pronunciation is still terrible :P These vids are great help.

  • In fact we have so many different dialects in China, but everyplace use Mandarin as a standard language to communicate.

Therefore you dont need to worry, Chinese people understand Mandarin.

  • yes, of course. But there is a slight difference in Tai Wan. Especially for some expressions.

  • yes. Mandarin are spoken by mainland China, taiwan, singapore.

  • Mandarin looks easy

  • its actually not bad, compared to the publics opinion on it. at least here in Minnesota..

  • xie xie!

  • 'ma' is added at the end of a positive sentence and in that way you have a question..it's like English 'Do' or 'WILL' or 'DID' added at the beginning of a question..:)

  • is it easier to learn what the words mean first then learn how to write in chinese or should i do it at the same time??? ive learned lots of words thanx to askbenny and Taiwanese dramas.....ive also learned how do write "bu" "xiao" "zai" , "da" , and "tian" buht those are just the easy ones to write....and is there an order of writing the lines/ strokes??? daynnngg i rly wanna learn!

  • I would love to help you learn how to write them :D message me and I will tell you how i will show you. By the way im 12 and ive been speaking/learning chinese for 6 yrs and I AM AMERICAN not chinese lol. I take a chinese class in my middle school. Message me and i will send you my email.

  • wow realy? thats awsome!!! can you teach me?

  • same here please!

    :D

  • u know mate i"ve been learning chinese in china, fuchou for 8 months and i still got nothing.....

chinese language is depressing but chalenging..

  • Chinese is very difficult to learn, 8 months is just a start, don't give up and keep going.

Try to learn Chinese from askbenny, it's much more easier

  • yes it is very challenging but just think of it this way the langue is like a simple math problem or a easy science equation. just take one of these videos and spend 1 hour a day listening and learning it ,just one hour, then do this for a hole week ,and maby another week if u still need time.you will learn a lot quicker trust me i know 4 langues already and im only 16 it makes things alot simpler lol and have fun with it lol make fun of ur self once in a wile or record your self to get out some

  • hey i dont understand

    someone tell me this

    the tone changes

A 3rd tone, when immediatlely followed by another 3rd tone, should be pronounced in the 2nd tone.

and it changes at ni3 hao3

    is ni2 hao3

    but at this example

    Wo3 xi3 huan ka1 fei1

here we apply the rule or not?

  • RhymeMastaMasse this is because the tone changes

A 3rd tone, when immediatlely followed by another 3rd tone, should be pronounced in the 2nd tone.

    Nǐ hǎo = Ní hǎo

  • Xie xie for putting this up but I'm confused... You said that ni with a dipping v tone meant I/Me. And for wo also there is a dipping tone. But then when you say "What do you like?" "ni xi huan shen me?" You put a rising / tone instead of a dipping, but it sounds like you say a dipping. Could you clear this up? Xie xie. And whenever you talk about yourself is it a dipping tone always?

  • i love u

    我喜欢唱歌(wo xi huan chang ge)

    I like to sing songs.

  • Well done :)

  • NP

    I'm from Beijing

    You?

  • what is the word for dislike? like for example how would I say "I dislike coffee" ?

  • Dislike means " bu xi huan"!"I dislike coffee" = wo bu xi huan ka fei.

  • ohh so there isn't an actual word for it, you just ad 不 before 喜欢 ? then how would you say "I don't "dislike coffee" ?

thank you for the reply by the way ^-^

  • :) "don't dislike" means "like"

    So, "I don't "dislike coffee" = "I like coffee"

  • I see. no room for double negatives in Chinese hehe, got it. but how would you say, "I dont dislike it, but I dont particularly like it either" ?

  • We don't say old car 老汽车. We say "二手车(er shou che)",literally means "second hand car".

  • Ni Hao Packard! We arent doing MP3 downloads yet, but tell me which ones you like and perhaps I can sort something out! Let me know!

  • What exactly are you trying to say in English? I understand the "I want to buy...."

  • You're welcome!
