All the comments on here about the "slowness" and tediousness of the response to the emergency: Firstly, this is a training video, showing the steps to be taken. Secondly, in a real emergency it is vital that the relevant checklist is followed meticulously, and not in a rush or even panic. What you see in Hollywood plane disaster movies (where everyone panics and shouts) has nothing whatsoever to do with real life.
@klanies123 no chance, as soon as the cabin pressure goes above 10,000ft, the masks automatically deploy.
furthermore, if its a rapid decompression you only have about a minute or less of useful consciousness before you start to suffer from hypoxia and lack of oxygen causing you to faint. so think before you post mad comments lol :)
planes today and maybe in the future should have all the systems controlled by a computer able to make quick split second decisions in case of an emergency that way leaves pilots to focus more if a emergency breaks out
@hanzubitch if you leave the systems do everything for you, what's the point of having pilots? They would only require 1 pilot in case of failure, otherwise good bye pilots, welcome technology... Just like the factories. (I replied to Rm4rs' comment) Airliners are struggling financially, they will cut in every possible area in order to survive.
I find it interesting that as soon as a pressurization fault has been identified that the oxygen masks aren't immediately donned, placed on 100% and emergency. It isn't until cabin controller 1 and 2 faults and then cabin pressure loss that the captain calls to don the masks. Good luck in the real world. The cockpit grays out during a depressurization, good luck finding and properly donning and pressurizing the mask once it is far too late.
Your procedure is all wrong and will lead to wasting all the O2 and then crashing. This is a press fault, not a sudden depress. In a depress you don't use 100%, 100% is only for smoke. This is the proper Airbus/FAA procedure, not something you made up.
@TheProPilot Controller 1 and 2 faults didn't initially increase cabin altitude in this video. It's not until 2:11 that the cabin starts loosing pressure. at 2:27 the cabin altitude alarm goes off (Climbing through 10,000ft) and their oxygen masks are on within seconds after that.
Would the procedure be done as slowly as that during a real event? Or this a just an education material, teaching pilot in no hurry how to deal with the situation? Thank you and thanks for sharing :) I'm starting my training at the sabena flight academy on january 4th 2010

Are you an asshole?? Do you really think the pilots would manoeuvre their aircraft to track parallel to the airway if there's an EMERGENCY requiring an immediate descent? Idiot.
aha, really .. i think you are the asshole here .. instead of dealing with an emergency they end with crash with oppisite traffic, thanx god you dont fly with me at least !!!!!!!!!!
Do you really think it's appropriate to be mucking around at altitude following a rapid decompression? I hope your passengers all have functioning oxygen masks and are able to don them quickly.
ATC will clear away traffic... and what about TCAS?
can i ask something ?? are you a pilot ?? because if yes you need to go through ICAO enroute contingency procedure, standards are there beacuse people unanimously that its the most safe procedure, and by the way if u know the nature of emergency descend and TCAS limitation u should be able to conclude that u wont be able to respond to an RA during high vertical speeds !!
This is getting silly. Monitor TCAS for potential traffic conflict - not rely on RAs. In fact it would probably be reasonable to inhibit the RA function. ICAO simply recommends initiation of a turn away from assigned route. Two 90 degree turns plus some miles will cause unacceptable delay, particularly if there is no conflicting traffic.
@hussho Very true. you can't rely on an RA to get you through in this situation because RA instruction may very well be "Monitor Vertical Speed" with a decent limitation. Remember TCAS doesn't ever give lateral commands (Turn Left, Turn Right) just Decend, Climb, Monitor Vertical Speed, and variatons on the above. Common sense would say, Don Masks, Start decent, turn off track, then set TCAS to BLW only, and use lateral track to avoid traffic as well as Tcas.
by the way their from portugal listen to when the talk on P.A. it is air portugal simulation and dialect is portuguese they are some of the best and craziest pilots
are you a pilot ?? before any emergency descend you should turn 90 degree and fly parallel to the current AIRWAY before start descending so they dont hit other traffic flying the same AIRWAY and below, and by the way, there is no emergency descend due traffic ..
not quite perfect but its ok. 1 tip, dont turn the master caution off that quickly. discussion with the captain on what's wrong should come first before taking action. after all real life you wouldn't know what failure was going to happen on a flight. still good vid. keep up the good videos :)
They were pretty calm considering the plane is probably spinning out of control and diving straight at the ground.

Yes but computers can't Know which is the best option, pilots can make that type of decisions.
