I do think that dumping the WBC belt was an attempt to make the WBC look bad, that's the whole point. It's not because of what you're suggesting about them not wanting to fight because of personal reasons. It's about the money as usual.

@opera123able I'm not wrong I'm simply stating the facts. Newman made an offer that was bad for Lewis? Well that's what negotiations are and when you have leverage you can make them. It wasn't Bowe dumping it in the bin that made any difference at all it was a symbolic gesture because there's a date when it's stripped like it happened to Muhammad Ali and Leon Spinks. You have to realise getting to the date when Lewis would get it by default is probably what they wanted anyway,

Bowe and Lewis was not a definite non-starter but boxing is a complicated business and managers are in negotiations with multiple people at a time trying to find the best deal. It's not because they refused to fight it was because of combination if legal and financial matters like every single championship bout in boxing.

Sometimes fighters do get around the process but it's a costly legal affair which they try to avoid because inactivity takes time and money.

@opera123able Actually Lewis was contractually obligated to HBO for a 10 fight deal and he had to fullfil that commitment before he fought Tyson who had a contract with showtime. Tyson had to relinquish the WBC belt because Lewis was the mandatory contender because he was the mandatory contender for Bruno who fought Tyson for a bigger purse. Tyson in turn fought Holyfield because that was the biggest purse on offer in the world at that time. Similar story with Bowe v Lewis.

@LaurieJames Those guys didn't duck Shavers. His career started in 1969 and it wasn't loss free. Foreman only got to the heavyweight championship in 1973 and lost it in 1974 an Frazier's career had slowed down a lot by then. Shavers lost to guys like Stander and Lyle who were beaten by Frazier and Foreman respectively.

Holyfield's intentions were to fight Moorer, Tyson, Lewis then Bowe one more time before retiring. Lewis kind of laid low key after the McCall cotastrophe.

That's why it didn't happen earlier. Lewis was a great fighter, but he gave his chin to both McCall and Rahman. Holyfield never got stopped in the prime of his career by any bums. He was stopped once by Bowe in their third meeting. Had they met earlier I think I would give the advantage to Evander, not to take anything from LL. A true puglst

'And who's he fought compared to me? Ray Mercer beat him but was robbed of the decision.

the real reason why I'm being delayed in getting my third belt is because Lewis wouldn't agree to cut the kind of deal I took in order to get my first fight with Tyson.
