@boogiejuiced Forgive them....The Youth are confused. The ESTABLISHMENT has made sure there will be no more Queen, Zeppelin OR ANYTHING even remotely close to THE CLASH.
I have the original episode recorded on VHS of HBO show "Reverb" this appeared on. The whole show featured the late R.L. Burnside as the opening act (crazy, huh), followed by the Pietasters. Then of course the great Joe Strummer plays. At one point he goes off cursing out security for messing with someone in the crowd. I don't have a working VCR anymore, so I havent seen this in a minute! Thanks for posting it.
@andy23822 HEY - I roadtripped with four people to see The Clash (sans Mick Jones) at some campus near Buffalo in 1994 from across the river in Niagara-on-the-Lake - could this be the same show? I'd seen them live four times before since early 1979 in Toronto.
Les falt´o el saxof´on pero la versi´on mescaleros es una maravilla, This version sounds really good 'though it lacks sax but Joe is God, then no problem!!!
Será que está sea la mejor de The Clash...? La verdad es que los mescaleros cantan re mal, y entre los tres mensos que hacen la segunda voz no le llegan al buen Mick. Joe thank you.
had the privilege of meeting joe 25 years ago apart from my own dad biggest influence in my life stop me going the wrong way due to great lyrics that actually mean something
@SkaPunk026 well give a good reason why Led Zeppelin are overrated, at least mention 5 bad songs of them, i think you haven't heard a complete album of them.....
@aert88 A lot of their best songs are outright stolen from various blues musicians (Muddy Waters, heck, even Joan freakin' Baez!) Even a band like Queen shows more originality than these guys: I'm still waiting for some old blues musician to sue the Freddie Mercury estate for stealing a song! "Killer Queen," perhaps?
And when I say their best songs I mean the famous one... I don't like any of their songs.
@SkaPunk026 Bands just steal, dude. The Clash stole. Listen to I Can't Explain by the Who. It's not stealing, it's just a form of musical homage. Led Zeppelin and the Clash are both incredible bands, whether you like Zeppelin or not.
@mick03112 They are completed overrated. Sure Page was a great guitarist and all but they were nothing new. All they did was cover old blues songs, claiming it was their own work and adding a bit of garage and psychedelic influence to it. So they were pretty much Cream, with a worse guitarist and rhythm who didn't recognize the originators of the songs, and came three years after./ Sure they had some great stuff, but they are completely overrated.
@1UpStaff A true music lover would never berate one musician like that to give praise to another. I doubt Strummer would appreciate that. Though I don't care much for Led Zeppelin, saying that they (and Queen) are 'overrated shit' seems to me a bit out of line.
Oh, I agree, spixie. People should never, ever criticize anything about the world in which they live unless someone like you decides there's something better. Please let us all know when it's OK to be critical.

What a serious loser. If you would have asked The Clash if they were influenced by ska, they would have said Hell Yes, and called you an idiot for even asking. A Hell of a lot of, if not most, Punk bands in England during the late 7O's were heavily involved with Ska as well. Rudie Can't Fail is most definitely a Ska song. Are you deaf? With a beat like that it's either Ska or Polka, and it sure as Hell ain't Polka!
Brilliant doesn't describe this, backdrop to my youth, brings me out in goosebumps. Saw The Clash 5 times and the last ever London Meskies show, NO other performer has come close.
Can I make a suggestion? I was always able to sing like Joe. Even in 1977 as a sixteen yearold, I could do it. Is it not time for a Clash reunion? We can never replace the Top Man but I think I can do him credit. Anybody who wants to get involved, please get back to me.
it's not really about the way you can sing, it's all about Attitude, Spirit and Energy! Strummer's never really been praised for his voice, but his intense performances and great lyrics! And if you ask from me, The Clash reunion should not be done. I'm sorry, but The Clash was unique, you can't play in a band doing the stuff that The Clash did.
Of course I have nothing against it, if you'd form a band, that'd do your own songs, have your own style and sometimes cover songs of The Clash, but if you were thinkin' about making a band that only plays The Clash tunes, dress like the Clash and act like The Clash, you should leave that idea alone...
hey simmer down, joe + mick = perfection. since someone other than mick is singing with joe, it's not perfect. it's good, just not perfection. get it?
I'll always regret having never seen the Clash, but at least got to see the Mescaleros in Chicago, in July of '99. What a powerful, magnificent show, and what a blessing to have finally gotten to see Joe .
