  • Almost 9 years since he departed - miss him and his music

  • oh no

  • supa trupa great rudie cant fail

  • supa trupa great

  • One of my favorite clash songs

  • haha overrated like led zeppelin and queen, that's rich.

  • @boogiejuiced Right on, that's an apples to oranges-type comparison!

  • @boogiejuiced Forgive them....The Youth are confused. The ESTABLISHMENT has made sure there will be no more Queen, Zeppelin OR ANYTHING even remotely close to THE CLASH.

  • cheers!!!

  • I don't know who Tony Adams is, but he was obviously in great demand that night .

  • this vid is stolen from avms why do you steal

  • Joe lived 3 LIFETIMES in his 50 years...An absolute force of nature!

No ego, no hubris...the Common Man's Man.

Quite simply...the closest thing to a religious figure I may ever have seen!

  • This moment is epic, the best song of the history. Fuck The Rolling Stone is shit. Long Live To The Clash. The Only Band that Matters!!!!

  • There is something seriously, inherently, dangerously wrong with five people out there...

  • Just doesn't sound the same without Mick singing...

  • @Sheehy83 Why would it??

  • I have the original episode recorded on VHS of HBO show "Reverb" this appeared on. The whole show featured the late R.L. Burnside as the opening act (crazy, huh), followed by the Pietasters. Then of course the great Joe Strummer plays. At one point he goes off cursing out security for messing with someone in the crowd. I don't have a working VCR anymore, so I havent seen this in a minute! Thanks for posting it.

  • this is gold!

  • Saw The Clash in 1983...March...U.B. in Amherst, NY....My second concert ever..I was 12 yrs.old.....had a riot....

  • @andy23822 HEY - I roadtripped with four people to see The Clash (sans Mick Jones) at some campus near Buffalo in 1994 from across the river in Niagara-on-the-Lake - could this be the same show? I'd seen them live four times before since early 1979 in Toronto.

  • who the fuck would dislike this?!

  • @dougdevine27 just what i was thinking!!!!

  • perfect song to make you happy

  • Les falt´o el saxof´on pero la versi´on mescaleros es una maravilla, This version sounds really good 'though it lacks sax but Joe is God, then no problem!!!

  • Fuck, why does someone like Joe Strummer leave us early, and an asshole like bush and chenney continue to live?

  • Thanks Aristotlekh for sharing this memorable performance.

  • +1

  • RUDIE CAN'T FAIL :D :D :D

  • joe will live on in the hearts and minds of those who loved him and his music. but i still miss him.

  • Hey the Clash is my favourite band ever, but I can appreciate Led Zeppelin and Queen too. No need to be a living cliche.

  • Joe lives

    Joe loves

  • Será que está sea la mejor de The Clash...? La verdad es que los mescaleros cantan re mal, y entre los tres mensos que hacen la segunda voz no le llegan al buen Mick. Joe thank you.

  • love the "mescaleros" part of his career. like always, thank you Joe...

  • he lived 5 lifetimes in his years. what an amazing guy.

  • Fuckin' miss ya Joe!

  • Give thanks and praise to the lord and I will feel alright

  • THE CLASH !!

  • one if the best shows ever, he musta played like 14 clash songs

  • saw him at The Leadmill in Sheffield ,small sweaty club ,He was the dogs !

  • i wish i had seen him live at some point

  • RUDE BOY!

  • What a great man, what a great band and what a great song!

  • heaven...............!!!!

  • only the GOOD die young...see you uo there Joe

  • One of the Clash`s best songs. R.I.P Joe

  • the lighting made him look really old

  • Epic song, RIP Joe!!!

  • had the privilege of meeting joe 25 years ago apart from my own dad biggest influence in my life stop me going the wrong way due to great lyrics that actually mean something

  • whoever disliked this is a fuckin retard !

  • He sounds just as good as in '79. A true fucking legend. Rest in muthafucking peace.

  • I miss him so much!! This song makes me happy!! :)

  • Outstanding!

  • indimenticabile!!!thanks joe

  • hell, this sends shivers down my spine!

    thanks Joe!

  • i had chicken brewed for breakfast!

  • don't miss

  • It wasn't the only band that mattered, it was the only man that mattered. He will forever be missed.

  • amazin, unbelievably great.,..wish u were still alive.

  • The Best.

  • Great , great , great Joe Strummer: Why do the best always go so early...?

  • i went to the marketttt to realize my soul, what i need, i just don;'t haveee

  • this is the clash!!!

  • May he rest in peace forever.

One of the best musicians ever.

Instead of overrated shit like Led Zeppellin and Queen, he should be remembered forever and ever.

  • The sharpest diamonds is always more dificult to find

  • Amen, bro. Joe took his god-given talents and got more out of it than the bands you mention.

  • strummers up there wi dylan the clash weren't punk 2 good 4 that crap just the best rock & roll band to grace this earth xx

  • @1UpStaff I agree that Joe Strummer was a great musician, but how can you say that Led Zeppelin is an overrated shit?? are you fucking kidding!!

  • @aert88 They're overrated shit.

  • @SkaPunk026 well give a good reason why Led Zeppelin are overrated, at least mention 5 bad songs of them, i think you haven't heard a complete album of them.....

  • Comment removed

  • @aert88 A lot of their best songs are outright stolen from various blues musicians (Muddy Waters, heck, even Joan freakin' Baez!) Even a band like Queen shows more originality than these guys: I'm still waiting for some old blues musician to sue the Freddie Mercury estate for stealing a song! "Killer Queen," perhaps?

And when I say their best songs I mean the famous one... I don't like any of their songs.

  • @SkaPunk026 Bands just steal, dude. The Clash stole. Listen to I Can't Explain by the Who. It's not stealing, it's just a form of musical homage. Led Zeppelin and the Clash are both incredible bands, whether you like Zeppelin or not.

  • @SkaPunk026 No

  • @1UpStaff Led Zeppelin overrated? LMAO. That's a good one.

  • @mick03112 They are completed overrated. Sure Page was a great guitarist and all but they were nothing new. All they did was cover old blues songs, claiming it was their own work and adding a bit of garage and psychedelic influence to it. So they were pretty much Cream, with a worse guitarist and rhythm who didn't recognize the originators of the songs, and came three years after./ Sure they had some great stuff, but they are completely overrated.

  • Comment removed

  • @1UpStaff A true music lover would never berate one musician like that to give praise to another. I doubt Strummer would appreciate that. Though I don't care much for Led Zeppelin, saying that they (and Queen) are 'overrated shit' seems to me a bit out of line.

  • @1UpStaff Vaffanculo testa di cazzo ovverrated oi Led Zeppelin?Ma muori!

  • great song

  • F excellent! Just sit on the Mac with headphones on max listening to Joe (and others) loving it. Miss you Joe RIP.

  • but however will anything better ever come along if everyone "shuts the F22k up"?

  • Oh, I agree, spixie. People should never, ever criticize anything about the world in which they live unless someone like you decides there's something better. Please let us all know when it's OK to be critical.

  • listen to you, a flawed system is a failed system imo, unite for a better situation ad a better life

  • Joe Strummer... he's just awesome, and the Mescaleros they're pretty good too but they don't have stage presence.

  • holy...this is second wave ska. ska proceeds reggae, reggae comes from ska. punk + ska came after reggae with the second wave.

  • ...with all this content, he will never die. Joe Stummer told the truth, and will live forever!

  • Went to the market to realize my soul...that says it all. I'll write my thesis on that!

  • Why don't bands write about the failure of the capitalist state anymore?

  • Cause it's happened.

  • ska ska ska ska ska ska ska before it was "shit" as you wld call it, it was this, strummer partially was responsible along with many other for fusing reggae with punk with = ska you fucking stupid shit, learn what music is before you spew your worthless vomit on the internet

  • Strummer. what else can I say

  • You are in ours hearts Joe! Thank you!

  • This is a fantastic upload. Where can I get the audio for this show?

  • saw them london calling tour ....edinburgh ..20 odd years down the line never seen a live band to match that night.....as always joe was in top form...our loss but heavens gain.

  • I think everyone misses him at this point, I never even saw him, but his story and his music were really something else....plus this song is so catchy, you can't help but love it XD

  • Phenomenal! RIP Joe

  • absolutely stunning!!! thank you joe! for everything!!!

  • I absolutely LOVE this song.

Of course I just love ska, period.

  • ...says the nightwish fan

  • @rabidhippo5 yes you're point being....

  • @ironmaiden6776

What a serious loser. If you would have asked The Clash if they were influenced by ska, they would have said Hell Yes, and called you an idiot for even asking. A Hell of a lot of, if not most, Punk bands in England during the late 7O's were heavily involved with Ska as well. Rudie Can't Fail is most definitely a Ska song. Are you deaf? With a beat like that it's either Ska or Polka, and it sure as Hell ain't Polka!

    Crawl back under your rock.

  • I love you!

    Thank you!

  • i was at this show nyc nov 99..i never missed joe when he came to nyc. i went to every show in brooklyns 5 night stand

thank god. as for a clash reunion get lost.

i saw them 11 times back in the day best shows of my life

  • Brilliant doesn't describe this, backdrop to my youth, brings me out in goosebumps. Saw The Clash 5 times and the last ever London Meskies show, NO other performer has come close.

  • after hundreds of times of listening, this is still a great tune. ..

  • brilliant.

  • joe...he was the real punk rocker to the bones out there among the few..until the day he died..

  • Can I make a suggestion? I was always able to sing like Joe. Even in 1977 as a sixteen yearold, I could do it. Is it not time for a Clash reunion? We can never replace the Top Man but I think I can do him credit. Anybody who wants to get involved, please get back to me.

  • it's not really about the way you can sing, it's all about Attitude, Spirit and Energy! Strummer's never really been praised for his voice, but his intense performances and great lyrics! And if you ask from me, The Clash reunion should not be done. I'm sorry, but The Clash was unique, you can't play in a band doing the stuff that The Clash did.

  • Of course I have nothing against it, if you'd form a band, that'd do your own songs, have your own style and sometimes cover songs of The Clash, but if you were thinkin' about making a band that only plays The Clash tunes, dress like the Clash and act like The Clash, you should leave that idea alone...

  • At one point there was talk of reuniting the band with Tim Armstrong as lead singer, but I think that fell through

  • One of the best Clash songs.

  • ill keep rockin like the great joe strummer cuz through music you can live for ever!

  • When I don't have to work. I like drinking beer for breakfast, preferribly Guiness.

  • I miss you. So Much. Mauri Clash City Rocker, from Milan, Italy.

  • R.I.P Joe

  • I am thankful for Joe Strummer who had the courage to make music that gives me courage!

  • i hope the young guitar man knows whos standing by hes side

  • luckily, joe didnt have much of voice to begin with so he doesnt sound old, except maybe a little raspier. brilliant song.

  • this is great, but i must say without mick it's imperfect :\

  • screw you! spazzynimrod, joe and mick both sound perfect

  • hey simmer down, joe + mick = perfection. since someone other than mick is singing with joe, it's not perfect. it's good, just not perfection. get it?

  • joe ....

  • awesome clip

  • RIP

  • cheers

  • drinking brew for breakfast ....oh yeah.....

  • priceless

  • god bless joe strummer

  • All i can say is WOW!

  • it was awesome how he didnt say sing michal sing

  • thta is because it was a line for Mick Jones to start singing aswell

  • Esta canción es una obra maestra, se la puede escuchar hasta morir.

  • Amazing Joe Strummer.

  • I'll always regret having never seen the Clash, but at least got to see the Mescaleros in Chicago, in July of '99. What a powerful, magnificent show, and what a blessing to have finally gotten to see Joe .

  • RIP

  • aristotlekh is a punk

  • I know who you are.

  • Fucking great version, but I just can't help but miss Mick's vocals on this one, Joe and Mick sure sounded amazing together, anyways that's just my opinion!

I still really enjoy this version though!

Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros were amazing, and still are!

Long live Joe Strummer and his music!

  • Bo Diddley

  • just ordered my joe strummer tattoo .....1952 x 2002 ...the legend..

  • i fthis isn't played at my funeral i will haunt you all.

  • That and Madness One Step Beyond!

  • Joe never failed us!

  • JOE STRUMMER FOREVER!

  • no offence Greenday fan-but thats the problem with... (dare i say it?! music today-its the money people are interested in, save a few. I doubt Strummer owned restaurants or cafe's-they were on the dole before their music career and all their friends were, too. The movement that was rebelling about the class system... have become those running it. As i think Lydon said "they're becoming more conservative than the thing they're trying to rebel against!"the sad truth

    p.s.-Joe Strummer, great guy

  • Yeah, even during the peak of their career the clash were pretty much kept in poverty, their management totally fucked them. There were times when they couldn't afford lodging while on tour.

  • Joe R.I.P.!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. How tight was that? Fantastic! I met Joe a few times in my youth - he was always really friendly and even gave my mate an impromtu back stage lesson on how to hit the chords on I Fought The Law. Top bloke.

  • Rudie can't fail, no no

  • Joe you are my hero...the world misses you so much

  • Joe Strummer/The Clash is the reason I fell inlove with music.

  • theres a resteraunt in berkely california and its owned by the bass player of green day (mike dirnt) and its called rudie's can't fail cafe

  • PICK IT UP! PICK IT UP!!!

  • I love this song!!

    ...RIP Joe...

  • HES THE FUCKING MAN

ILL GUT ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHER WISE

    buit joe strummer

ISSSSSSSSS THE FUCKING BEST MAN EVER TO WALK THE EARTH

  • I COULD have seen this show and I didn't. THIS is the reason I will NEVER miss a show again. you never know what's going to happen tomorrow. The future is after all....unwritten.

  • I agree with you Aristotlekh - "Amazingly badass performance and Must see" Thank you again (another great gig)

    Encoding:

That's complicated! YT converts every uploaded video in FLV file format at 320x240 with a Max bitrate around 378kbit/s (it'ld be changed by YT in the future). You'ld use a FLV encoder (Riva has a free one) and make very low quality vid, but with stereo sound.

  • I miss Joe Strummer.

  • my favorite song by the world's favorite band

  • hear hear

  • Great. Clash, forever and Ever....

  • Nice Joe RIP

  • I can't stand that Joe is really gone.

  • exactly my thoughts...

  • well catchy song, sounds great live.
