This helped me finishing the sequence without using the console. 1- Everytime the sequence stops on Esbern, (quick)safe and reload your game. It should continue now but you have to do it multiple times as Esbern speaks on multiple occasions. 2- As part of the quest you must speak to Esbern at the end of the sequence, but you can't because of the bug. Now comes the funny part. Unload your weapon so you fight only with your hands. Now smack the mofo on his face 3 times. That should make him talk!

this is bugged for me as well.... I was halfway through the civil war quests, now this quest doesn't work. On;y problem is I'm on console.

It's not a bug or a glitch. The game on PC can be completed in a matter of minutes with console commands like "kill" and item codes which will give you any item you want by just entering its code.

I'm screwed, I joined the stormcloaks after I started the quest and I got stuck here too, I used this command. Quest got 'completed' but after I am not able to speak to esbern to learn about this new shout and the greybeard dude is telling me to sit down (while the quest is completed). Ulfric has already left from this room and he asked me to deliver an axe to the Jarl of whiterun. Sadly this one is bugged too now.....

Anyone got any ideas to solve this problem (I can't go any saves back)

But he only says: 'We need to succeed here today'. So I decided to continue but sadly 'Message to Whiterun' is buggen too now I'm stuck.

But thanks anyway. ( I've tried this command more then once as I thought it may solve this problem but it didn't)

@AliaZn If you sit down before you're asked to sit down, then no one else will. You have to wait until Arngeir asks you to sit down. Not sure if this is what's happening with you, but it might help.
