There is some good that came from the HSM franchise - a whole new generation has been introduced to musicals. I mean, the message is good and it's just plain fun. It's no Les Miz or Phantom of the Opera but it's current and actually infuses today's music styles. I think we lovers of the classics can be a bit stuck up about what we think is a "good musical". That said I would never buy a ticket to see it - but I'm still glad my nieces dance and sing to it.

Well, that is true! More people are willing to see a musical nowadays because of it! I just don't like High School Musical being considered a musical next to West Side Story and Sunday in the Park with George. lol

i agree with everything "overmyheadcrazy" said except that high school musical is a disgrace to musical theatre. musical theatre is my passion and if you really put your heart in it...you can make anything look like its meant for broadway.

oh, and martha was WWAAAAAAYYYY off key. lol.

You have a point. That's completely true. My issue is just with the icky-pop nature of the songs and how everyone seems to think that it is what all musicals are like. But you're completely right!

THIS WAS TERRIBLE! OH MY GOSH! I hate High School Terrible anyways, so, for you all to think this is great, just shows how this show gives musicals a bad name! I DON't CARE IF YOU GET MAD! nobody acted in the chorus, the chorus was terrible! it wasn't singing, it was screaming, though, you probably can't tell the difference!

I agree with you completely! Completely. High School Musical is a very, very silly show and I think it does give musicals a bad name. It's an embarrassment and an insult to musical theater. I liked playing Sharpay a lot though, - she was the only character in the show I thought was sensible and realistic. lol I can tell the difference between shouting and singing though, don't attack me! A bit too far. lol

I am Fredrich in The Sound of Music at Cedar Valley College (it is for everyone, not just college kids. It is professional) and I hate seeing HSM, I just saw it on your page and wanted to see if it was a decent performance. :)

No, I don't go ballistic. I'm not a fan girl. lol :D It's cool that you are playing Fredrich with a professional company, I'd love to perform The Sound of Music with a professional company... the show itself is a blast! High School Musical is yucky., but I loved doing it and learned a lot in it, Sharpay was all of my weaknesses and none of my strengths. lol The worst part of being in it is that everyone assumes I'm a Zac Efron fan girl! Ugh! lol
