I hope she realizes how much she meant to the gay community (not to mention the world in general). When she died, she left several 100 thousand dollars to a shelter for gay children abandoned by their parents... and she did it without any fanfare or need for publicity. Just an all-around good human being. I saw her during her one woman show tour, and she signed autographs after the show, and she was SO sweet. She even told an older gay couple "you two make such a great couple." We almost died
she was truly inspiring and gay rights activist supporter. what an awesome actress she is. her humor is hilarious on golden girls show.i like her sarcastic jokes on golden girls she does to rose lol.
These women were stars because of talent, not because of tabloid stupidity. They didn't need reality shows and bad behavior to be icons. Their iconic stature was a result of hard work and natural born abilities. Bea and people like her will live on for generations, do you think the same can be said about "Snooky" and the Kardashian trainwrecks? I think not.
what a beautiful down to earth lady. i have always thought deep down bea was gay, but was from a time where her career would have been shattered and she would not been able to have achieved her enormous success had she came out. if she felt threatened to stay closeted for fear of blacklist, is sad. i hope that was not the case.
I totally love Bea Arthur. She was witty, funny, realistic, and a true actress. We all miss her terribly, but her memory still lives on with all of us. Thank you for posting this!
What a wonderful person! I had the pleasure of talking to her once on the telephone. I had asked her to autograph my DVD cover which she did. I then found her telephone in the LA telephone book and thanked her personally. Of course she had no idea who I was, but she was so diplomatic and so charming on the telephone! She will be truly missed!
Wow, what a great clip I wished it was longer! I love Bea Arthur, and I'm gay too. I've recently bought the full 24 DVD set of the Golden Girls. Why do you think is it that gay people love the show Golden Girls? I can't explain so I'm asking you people here on Youtube. Cheers!
@xxooxxoo3394 no "I'm gay too" was referring to many other comments on this channel where other state they're gay too and love the golden girls just like me :)
I love how excited she got to go see the "gay community"! She was right about how they have good taste! Although I'm not a homosexual, I do support their way of life, too ;)
Love Bea Arthur and this is beside the point but it really annoys me that when people talk of the gay community they seem to ignore female homosexuals.
Bea is so beautiful inside and out. She is so missed but I continue to watch her incredible talents on the Golden Girls. Thanks for all the laughs amazing lady.
1:43 - This is so very true! This show helped me through my coming out period like nothing else. I will always adore you, Bea, and I'll always miss you. :)
It was a shock to hear that she passed, but this treasure will always live on through her many great rolls chiefly Maude and Dorothy, and also through her great work with PETA.
My past memories of Bea was her playing a liberal feminist called Maude...A fantastic work of art. Her role in the Golden Girls was priceless...Another great one lost
I share that worry. I like to believe that all of them are still living in that house and being as funny as ever. Dorothy and Sophia... I love you and miss you!
Aww......this just put an enormous smile on my face. I just love how Bea says that the reason so many gay men love The Golden Girls is because "they have great taste!"
A special woman..a friend to the Gay Community..What a loss!..She may have been private..but this interview prooves she was generous with her talent and gave us all inspiration to share that talent even when we are older...Thanks for posting!.
