I think this is an amazing trailer - very balanced, gives a good insight into the film, without simply displaying all of its key moments. I enjoyed the film, but found it quite flawed in its execution. Some scenes were too unconventional, and simply weren't translated well from book to film. Overall I was a bit disappointed, and thought that it could've been better. It's a shame, because I really wanted to like it more than I did. Even so, it's worth the watch - and Nolte was truly amazing!

A brilliant story and even more so because it's based on true events.

Now I need to know who, and what Socrates really was. An angel, a spirit, his own inner voice?

I personally believe, and I've read the book and several others of his, is that Socrates was a man he met. A spiritual guide if you will, but some of the events he experienced were a mesh of what happened and his spirit guiding him. socrates is everywhere.

After reading a lot of millman's books, I think that Socrates was a real person who was a spiritual guide for Dan. But many of the experiences he had were of his own spirit's desire to find peace. Socrates is everywhere, his lessons are out there. its up to everyone to find him.

It really made me think why those things happened to him, and that like you say, his was truly a journey to find inner peace, and so peace in the form of Socrates found him. If you've watched the movie but haven't read the book, read the book! While the movie was pretty good, the book is far superior. It's an incredible journey and will blow your mind. When you finish it, it will leave you in stunned silence just thinking "wow..."
