  • Glorious.TY j for posting.

  • Fantastico Squisito! Grazie tante!

  • Ponselle and Stracciari: it just doesn't get any better. Two of the greatest all-time voices singing as God had meant. I love this recording. Thanks for sharing with us.

  • I agree. Thanks for your comments.

  • Two of the greatest Verdi singers who ever lived. Ponselle had a voice of liquid gold and dark velvet, and Stracciari never sang in bad taste or belted like Ruffo, always a great technique that preserved his glorious voice until the day he died.

  • bodiloto, ha sentito in tearo la Ponselle?

complimenti per la sua longevità specie per ricordarsela...

  • I agree

  • What a thrilling baritone voice Stracciari had! What an elegance!

  • Superb !!!!!

  • Trample on my corpse, drink my blood, kill me! This is why I love Italian opera. Rosa Ponselle is one of the greatest artists in this repertoire and there are only a handful who can do justice to "Il Trovatore". Would like to remind all youtube friends that Fiorello la Guardia once said that anyone who could get the plot of this opera straight could have his job.

  • Beautifully sung.TY.

  • @paulostroff99

Thanks for sharing and jfsaninjfsanin TY for posting. This is my favorite performance of this of this duet.

    Ponselle was 23 in 1920.

Elizabetta611 - Milanov had a trill and a more beautiful and steadier voice than Callas. Such things are important to some of us. Ponselle said that Milanov's "Leonora" was unsurpassed.

  • Ponselle is on record as considering Stracciari the most beautiful baritone voice she ever heard. HOW RIGHT SHE WAS!

  • LOVE stracciari! What great ring and virility in his sound!

  • Ponselle considered Stracciare to have the most gorgeous baritone voice she ever heard. HOW RIGHT SHE WAS!

  • this is so beautiful

  • Many thanks!

  • 5****

  • PERFETTI! IMMORTALI !!! Grazie

  • Excellent. Thanks for posting.

  • Ponselle sounds so young here. Great duet by both of them.

  • It's spelled STRACCIARI. Thanks for posting.

  • You are right. Thanks.jfsanin

  • For Verdi I like only few sopranos to listen again and again: Ponselle Milanov and Tebaldi I dont need nobody more....they have been real VERDI-SPINTO-SOPRANOS! BRAAAAAAVA

  • Neither Milanov nor Tebaldi were perfect Verdi singers. Late Verdi, yes, but what about the roles demanding trills (Neither Milanov nor Tebaldi had a trill) and Bel Canto schooling? Ponselle and, especially Callas, are superior there.

  • Caballe, although not a dramatic soprano like Ponselle, had both the voice weight and technique to do great Verdi.

  • @Elisabetta611 I do not like Milanov, but is right to say that she had trill

  • @Elisabetta611 dal vivo 4 Callas insieme = 1 Rosa Ponselle e ancora !

  • @Elisabetta611 you shouldnt use callas with ponselle, two different lvls, callas was just a copy of ponselle.

  • @hobo1975 No. She really was not. Esp. since Ponselle never sang much Bel Canto.

  • @Elisabetta611 she sang arias from norma, traviata, tosca, carmen, ernani,le vestale and more listen to the recordings and compare, callas is copying.Ponselle was Callas's favorite singer.

  • Thanks!

  • fabulous.
