  • Yeah Vassar was great. Did you ever hear the stuff he did with Dickey Betts. There's a youtube of them doing "I've Been to Georgia"

And he's also on great song called "Hand Picked" on Dickey's solo record Highwas Call.

I saw him with John Cowan a few years before he died, still playing great.

  • Yep, I remember the Dickey Betts stuff. He recorded some of the best improvised fiddle I've ever heard. NEVER repeating himself completely and that's the sign of a true artist. I got to say "howdy" to him a couple of times. I never sat down and learned any of his licks but his blues style got mixed up in my playing from listening to Muddy Waters.

  • I hear a little Vassar in there too. Sounds good to me.

  • Vassar was a great person that had a fiddling talent that will never be repeated by anyone this side of Heaven. Thanks for the compliment.

  • Being the fiddle player, I wouldn't say this was bad. I'd say it was terrible. This was the first tune and first time we two had played anything like this together since 1977. I posted this video from a real cheap camera because it gets away from the Texas style that most people copy and it's just some goofy fun. It's all improvised. Figure out the first part of it that makes the guitar player smile, I don't know where that lick came from and I can't repeat it.

  • I am not hearing the Guitar , bad
