I have a 05 Cherokee that I have owned since it had 5 miles on it... I have this same problem on 3 of my 4 doors... I have also brought this up to my Jeep dealer and got the same response back...
I'm still working on a class action, but in the mean time all of my handles have now broken with the last two in front hanging by a thread... so I now have to do a "temporary repair" using an aftermarket handle I bought on Ebay. Everyone needs to remember that any repair you do should only by considered a temporary repair for safety reasons. This is the responsibility of Jeep/Chrysler and I plan to document my repair and keep the old handles for evidence.
Picked up my Jeep a few days ago. Arrigo Sawgrass Dodge Chrysler VP John Arrigo came through as he had indicated. Both rear panels replaced at dealers expense.
We would like you to know you could have made the exact same video of our 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee it is just identical to yours. We also have a click - click noise in the steering everytime you turn the wheel, plus just last night the cheap plastic that cover the transmission gear box in the console has broken. Difficult to shift from park to drive. Bought it new, great shape, 70,000. Have 1998 Jeep all is o.k. Please keep us posted.
My dealer may have resolved my problem by installing new panels but nevertheless today I filed a complaint with safecar.gov today about the defective interior door panels - perhaps Chrysler will issue a re-call if enough people do the same. It only takes 5 minutes, you will need the VIN #. As soon as I get the Jeep back, I plan to remove the newly installed door panels and re-enforce the weak molded section with fiberglass.
@Tonystone1203 You won't need to reinforce the new doors. All of the stock from the original 2005 doors has been depleted and the original door part has been deprecated. The part has been superseded twice and the original part was probably only faulty due do a bad resin mix from whoever Jeep contracted with. FYI, you can also buy replacement kits on eBay for $25/door now. My father just installed two of them and they seem to be well constructed.
Received call from co-owner of Arrigo Dodge Chrysler Sawgrass (Fl). He stated that they will replace the door panels at no cost to me and they will also contact Chrysler about the issue. Thumbs up to Arrigo Dodge-Chrysler Sawgrass for stepping up to the plate! - looks like there are still some auto dealerships out there with old-school values!
Just got a return call from Sales Manager at Arrigo Dodge Chrysler Sawgrass in response to my complaint that they recently sold me a used 05 Jeep with cracked rear door panels. They want to take a look at the vehicle. Good to see they responded quickly. Now waiting to hear from them to see what they will do. Will update again as information streams in.
Have the same problem . All 4 doors are broken with no handles to open the doors from the inside . I replaced the drivers door panel and it has already broken . It is a major concern for me and my family . Please include me in any action taken . Thank you .
I just purchased an 05 JGC and unfortunately did not notice the two rear door handles have the problem. The vehicle was purchased a few days ago in "as is" but I am sure the dealer was aware of this. They had the jeep in their inventory for about 2 months. I am hoping that the dealer, Arrigo Dodge Chrysler Sawgrass (Broward County Fl), will do the right thing. I will update accordingly.
I have the exact same issue on my 05 Grand Cherokee Hemi . I replaced 1 door panel last year. Now the other 3 have failed. Does anyone have a suit going or any other helpful info
@MrMarkBoca Sorry I never got one started, I went back to school and don't have the time to invest in it. I'll probably contact Jeep corporate soon though and notify them that others are getting the repair fully comp'd. Maybe they'll give me a refund and/or credit.
I've contacted an attorney here in Austin that has handled some class action suits before. This was after Jeep offered me a $1500 copay for my 4doors. I can be contzcted at rmartin008@gmail.com if you want to know whats happening.
have the same problem only have one handle left on the interior call to see what could be and the dealer told me it would cost $500-$600 for each panel reallly think this is crap especially when it cost $22000 for the car this is the second cherokee i have owned and had hardly any problems with the first one but it was a 95

@TreenaAnn I haven't heard of any issues with the steering column, but you could be an outlier. As for the transmission gear box plastic cover, I've successfully removed mine (not even carefully) several times without issues when I was rewiring devices. Best of luck!
I will be posting a video soon on the same issue I have on a 2005 grand cherokee 5.7 limited and all door panel handles have also broken off and it's frustrating because it happened after the 36k mile coverage and until today I have not been provided with a solution and this is a safety issue!
I also have this same problem with my 2005 jeep grand Cherokee limited hemi. My quote was $759 for the front passenger door panel. would be great if jeep would do whats right.
I filed a complaint on the NHTSA website just now. While there I did a search and found less than 200 complaints filed for 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokees for this problem. From surfing the net it appears there are many more out there with this problem. Everyone affected should file a report with the NHTSA.
I have the same problem with my 2005 Jeep GC Laredo on the back left door. Handle has fallen down inside door. I have to put one of my teens in the front seat and the other in the back on the right side. Don't want anyone in the back really, in case of wreck, but don't have any choice financially right now. Jeep needs to do a safety recall!
Heads up guys, the problem is still appearing in '05 GC's intermittently. My father came up to visit this past weekend and I noted that his '05 GC in khaki has the same issue on the front passenger and is starting to crack on the front driver as well. Looks like we'll be shopping at Denlors Tools!
@brentwoodkris I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee and i just wanted to tell you i have the same exact problem. But the problem i have is my right passenger door is so bad that the whole panel is tryign to come off and its hard to open the door.
@GmTruckCarLove I agree, but Jeep should still accept responsibility, and issue a recall. It would go a long way with me at least, to issue a kind gesture to paying customers.
My doors have been having the same issue the only one that still works as it did from the factory is the driver door. All the others have either fell apart or broken up. If there is a class action suit or recourse please reply.
Same problems, same answer. I was quoted $3200.00 just for parts this morning at my local dealer. I contacted Jeep customer assistance and they said basically it's not their problem. I'm in on any lawsuit if Jeep won't help me voluntarely as they should.! If they don't do the right thing and fix this, NO MORE JEEPS for me!!

I have the same issues 2005 jeep grand cherokee i basically have 1 door that has a handle working at this point. 2 have fallen off, and 2 are cracked. the cost of replacement is rediculous. This is a issue with their product and should be corrected
My father has the same car and came to this video searching for replacement, his car is a 2005 with about 40,000 miles on it, practically like new. No one sits on the back and all 4 doors are broken. it is not the limited, it has the regular door panels.
I have an 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I had the same issue with my doors. I called Jeep also and they said they would cover half, but your $1000 is way cheaper than FL. If I had to pay half, my half would be $1750 for all four. Thank God the military paid to get my doors fixed!! I hope you got your doors fixed because that is a safety hazard.
Wow i had two 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee's one back in 09 n now i have one. I had that same issue with the old one and i have the same issue with this one. Mines also is the Hemi fully loaded and i have the identical problem.
TOTALLY HAVE THE SAME ISSUES! I would so be in that class action suit. You oughta see MY car! Ridiculous. Can't even open the back doors from the back!
Just got off the phone with the Chrysler Rep. They will cover some of it, but want me to come up with $1,000. Obviously, money means little to them in light of Government bailouts and Fix It Again Tony buyouts. Did anyone see how these cars are made? The local news showed footage of the factory workers getting high on their breaks. Chrysler just needs to die.
I am now currently going through this with my 2005. All door handles are now "Jeeped" - Just Exceptionally Expensive Pain". It would seem like it has been a known issue for along time. Why else would Chrysler's most expensive extended warranty not cover this issue? This is my third Jeep. I must really hate myself.
Not sure if this issue has been addressed yet by Chrysler but I too have this problem with all of the door panels in of my Jeep. The car is in excellent condition but soon after I purchased it (used), the back door pockets completely broke out the two front door pockets are cracked and broken but not completely out yet. The back two doors can not be used at all. I call Chrysler and someone was to return my call but never did. Did anyone ever file a lawsuit against them?
I have the exact same problem on my Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I had to replace the one in the back on the driver's side because you couldn't open it from the inside anymore. This is happening to all of them! I love the car but I hate that about it!
My girlfriend and I both own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the same problem. This is just one of many problems we are currently having with them. Her passenger side rear door actually somehow got caught while being opened and cracked the whole thing is half. I'll post a pic if needed.
I'm going to call a lawyer today...I want to go through with filing a class action lawsuit. Please send me a personal message if you would like to participate. If you find anymore blogs or threads please refer them to this sight incase they would like to participate as well.
@applebrit...I have been dealing with sharron and dan (badge # ba690) and they have both told me on numerous occasions that they never heard of this issue. I have been dealing with this for nearly 6 months. I have two children under 2 years old that ride in the back I can not even imagine if there is an accident and I can not get them out. I went two 2 different dealerships to take pictures and on both occasions they lost the pictures. Finally I went into the dealership fuming and the service m
. It took 2 weeks for him to send them to sharron and then they determined that it was vandalism and that they won't help me. I am disgusted with the customer service of an American company...mind you my husband has been overseas for the past 3 months. I am calling a lawyer and I don't care if it takes another 6 months to get this fixed they are going to pay for it. They even had the nerve to tell me not to listen to everything I read or see on the internet after i mentioned this video. Unbeli
@Alejaluv1 Good luck! Vandalism? Seriously, that's the best they could come up with? If someone does start a class action suit, please reply to this video so I can get in on it too! I could use the cash that I paid out for them to fix this issue...
I received your email. I will help or sign whatever because I have had issue after issue with this vehicle. Fortunately I am one of the very few who seems to have gotten all my door handles replaced by Chrysler. This was at no cost what so ever to me. They used the same lines initially with me, such as "don't believe everything you see on the internet". I made it very clear, they better believe that I am willing to file a lawsuit. The issue was resolved very quickly after.
Jeep name came from the abbreviation for Just Enough Essential Parts Did you know that ? I own a 04 cherokee, the wires in the door boot break because its not long enough. found it out on the web. went to a dealer and they wanted 500 to fix it ! ridiculous crooks
I actually thought you were videotaping my jeep for a second. All four of my door handles are cracked with holes. Both of the rear doors are completely broken and cannot be opened from the inside. I have contacted Jeep, and they are willing to extend some goodwill; however $200 per door is still a lot of money. I am not questioning whether this is a warrantly issue. It is absolutel a safety hazard!!! I love my Jeep, but I am extremely disappointed and surprised that there has not been a recall.
@badtibaron There's now a guy who sells a kit on eBay that supposedly fixes all four panel. Something like $200 for the full kit. You should check it out, I wish it was available when I needed the fix...
i have the same problem in my 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited. all the doors are cracked by the handle and the passenger side is completely cracked off. It is a problem to even open the door. I have children and this is a problem and a concern. To replace it i was told would be 770 for just one door. this is ridiculous for a defect on the plastic.
once getting though to them, and everything was resolved how long did it take to get your doors fixed? and was that number you posted the number of the people who got you the deal, and got it fixed? thanks
@NvilleOL70 It took me nearly 12 months to get everything solved. That latency is mostly due to the fact that one of the doors (Passenger front) was on national back-order. I had the first 3 panels installed in under 3 months (but one was the wrong color that they later had to replace). Also, the only number I posted that I remember was ~$685, which is what I ended up paying in the long run. I thought it was a good deal, but apparently others have posted saying that Jeep fully comp'd it!
Cause: Bad batches of plastic resin mix from supplier. EVERYONE file complaints at SaferCar.Gov - owners - file complaint. 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee's have cracking & crumbling plastic surrounding the door handles. In case of fire or crash, you would not be able to open the door to get out of a deadly situation, due to continual cracking plastic that was used in the door panels holding door handles. Sometimes the entire door handle is no longer connected to plastic and is inoperable.
I have the exact same problem with the door panels cracking with a hole inside the handle valleys. My local dealer said, sorry it's no longer covered by the bumper to bumper warranty.
@applebrit. If you send me a e-mail with your number, I will call and answer any questions you have if you like and tell you exactly what I did. Send a e-mail to bogy28@hotmail.com with it. Like I said, some people are stating they are paying a deductable, etc....I did not pay a single penny. My car was bought used in 2007 from a dealer. Again, I have no problem speaking to you about this if you like. Just a lot to type out
I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 2005 with the same situation. The two back doors and one of the front doors are broken. The back doors only open for outside. I verified if these parts are selling separately but they said me that they do not sell it separately, they sell the door panel and each has a cost from $600.00 to $700.00. How we can do so that they replace these parts to us because this is a manufacturing defect? Please contact to me if we can do? lopezfj1@yahoo.com
I have been holding out to post anything on this. I have been waiting 7 months searching for a way to get this fixed. I literally just got back this morning from the dealer. All 4 door panels replaced. 100% covered. I called the Chrysler number everyone has been posting. I told Chrysler I am filing a Class Action Lawsuit. I let them know that I cannot get out of my passenger side door. I reiterated I have a attorney ready to sue for everything. 2 weeks later, fixed, no deductable
No warranty needed. Mine is 2005 JGC Limited. 106000 miles. Just call the number, get a case number and continue calling. They will do a digital photo at the dealer. Do not give up is the main thing. I called everyday for two weeks and let them know how I am filing a class action lawsuit. It took two weeks as of today all four are fixed completely free. Just got back this morning. This is the first of many issues I have had. Transmission, etc... Please everyone file complaints 4 recalls
@28bogy I said the same thing to them and they said they did not care that I am filing a class action suit, and they would not give me an address different to the website HQ for my lawyer to correspond with. Did you buy your GC brand new? Also have you owned Jeeps before? Also who did you speak with...do you have a name? I have called for weeks and they are saying that because I am not the first owner of the car, I am not eligible for their help...
Which case manager did you speak to (brentwoodkris)? I have spoken to several "case managers", Litza, Sharon (ID:SW531), Annette and Paul (ID:PW243) and they claim that all of the 2005 Jeeps are outside of the Jeep 3 year/36000 mile warranty, and that HQ will not pay for any of the door panel replacement costs. This is my 3rd Grand Cherokee, I am a loyal Jeep customer. When I call and denying that this is a mass manufacturing flaw. This is terrible customers service. Disgusting!
@applebrit I'm sorry about your situation brit. The case managers that I talked to actually were three different people. I went from Ryan to Travis to Jordan. Out of those case managers, Travis was the most helpful by far. I don't have their ID numbers, but there can't be that many people named Travis that work there right? I'm a loyal Jeep Customer too and this is my 2nd Grand Cherokee. Good luck with your endeavor and let us know what happens!
I just filed a complaint with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). I urge everyone with this problem file a complaint. Sooner or later someone will hear us.
I have the same issue. I took my 2005 Jeep Limited in yesterday and they told me there has not been a recall and it will cost $644.00 for the two back doors and more for the ones in the front. I have two broke in the back and the two in the front are on their way out. How do I contact corporate or is it even worth my time? I don't want to have to pay for mine. My 6 year old opened the door and the handle broke so I know it was cheaply made. Help!!!!
@tanaiya02 The number I called was 1-800-992-1997. Once I gave them my personal info, VIN, etc, they gave me the usual speal about being out of warranty etc. I then mentioned that I really didn't want to have to start a class action because, especially due to the evidence surfacing on this video and the edmonds forum. They quickly changed their tone and got me to a case manager who offered to comp me 50% of the cost. Good luck!
@Nolen12003 link them to this video and have them read the comments. Unless ALL of us are being "too rough" on the door handles. Make them take responsibility for their shoddy construction!
@DodgeMan360 Yeah I test drove one, I'm a bit worried about how much it relies on computing systems, especially with the power struts (those must cost a fortune to replace/repair). Also, I noted that there is more wind noise in the new model as well as the more annoying fact that the HEMI models idle at double what mine does and is clearly computerized to not be as responsive. I can basically leave tire anywhere I want with mine, the new one is SLOW to respond.
@brentwoodkris Yeah. I cant say ive driven one, but have been inside both model year Jeeps, definatly feels alot nicer in the new ones. As for the engine, I agree, my 08' Ram Hemi works friggen good, so much power. But the new ones have much more horsepower, its a shame that the computer would rob alot of the performance..
@DodgeMan360 Yeah the new one's are definitely more comfortable and more aesthetically pleasing, but I bought my Jeep for a good mix of aesthetics/performance, so I'd never trade up to the new model.
Did you see the news story where they showed Jeep Grand Cherokee assemblers getting high on their lunch breaks. Do you really believe the 2011 will be better? Would you be interested in a Bridge I have for sale near Brooklyn?
@SolidCAMcontest haha youve never worked manual labor im guessing. Lots of laborers smoke dope, man it works for alot of people. I worked carpentry and I was the only one who didnt smoke dope, they were all much better carpenters then me.The quality is in the engineering and designs. And the new ownership gives them the money to design and engineer quality cars.
I have a 2005 Grand Cherokee also. I am having the same exact problem with my door panels. My door panels look exactly the same as the video. I call jeep 4 times and they told me there is nothing they can do. They said that the door panels were 890 a piece. I think this is ridiculous. I shouldn't have to pay for a manufacturing defect. If there is a class action law suit, I would like to be in on it!!!
@jenni0478 Direct your Jeep rep to this video and the comments. Also find the forum on edmunds. There are plenty of us with the issue. It's time for them to stop being ignorant.
i have a 05 jeep cherokee that i have had for 3 years now and my door handles seem fine.how long did it take for that to happen because now after seeing this video im very paranoid about pulling my door handle to hard because i dont want this to happen to me if it does i wont have the money to replace them.
My '05 drivers door broke in Oct. 2010, called corporate and they agreed to repair at my local dealer for a $50.00 "deductable", (I'm out of warranty). New panel installed January 11, 2011.
I am having problems with corporate and they are completely denying that other 2005 JGC owners have had their door panels replaced at a $50 deductible cost. Could you share the information of whom you dealt with at corporate? It sounds like they are a lot more reasonable than the the four "case managers" I have talked to Litza, Sharon, Annette and Paul..
I dont remember her name, but it seems the deal was worked out between corporate and my local dealer. After they determined that I was a "loyal customer" of my local dealer, they approved the repair w/$50 deductable. I suppose if I handn't bought 6 cars from them, and had all my service work done there, I'd be left holding the bag. Best of luck!
UPDATE: Had the final 4th panel (passenger front) installed last week. Finally all is well with the Jeep again. Total out of pocket $685 when I never had a warranty. I guess the panels finally came back in stock but finally I'm back to driving myself around and have passengers that can get out of the Jeep THEMSELVES again!
@brentwoodkris I'm glad you have door panels now which will make the car safe. I go Friday to have my car evaluated for four new panels. can't pass a safety inspection without door handles. The door handles aren't something they look at when doing a safety inspection, but if they get in the car and then couldn't get out, they realized it's a safety issue. I like my jeep but I did report this issue to the feds as a safety issue. I don't intend on paying a dime for my four new panels.
@lisa7052005 I had hoped that I wouldn't pay a dime either, but after over a year of having I'm sure hundreds of complaints to the NHSTA between this video and the thread on Edmunds, it seems unlikely that a recall will ever become reality. If it ever does, you can bet I'll be back at their doorfront asking [demanding] all my money back. Until then, $685 was well worth it for my peace of mind. Much better than paying out the $2200 that they initially quoted me.
@brentwoodkris Dude I am so glad you posted this video. My 2005 has the exact same problem. I contacted my local jeep dealer, they would not cover the defect. I contacted the Corp. office to speak with someone about the problem. They stated they haven't heard of the situation and do not plan on filing a recall. Finally I made an appointment with my insurance company to visually inspect the door handles. I had them make a note of the problem and response of Jeep.

Yes I have the same problem... Both panels on the passenger side front and rear are broken from the handles... Did they issue a recall for those yet??
It's happening to every WK and WH here in Kuwait aswell !!!
The reason you have cheap plastic is because Daimler (Chryslers former owner) had a 50% reduction in the cost of interior quality. The reason so many chryslers are plagued with problems is because of all the cost cutting from the bastards over at Daimler. They put the cheapest parts possible in them. Chrysler seems like they're in good hands now with Fiat and it shows because the new Grand Cherokees are 1000 times better than the old ones.
@pparadisom YEAH i HAVE A 2010 model with 11k miles on it. I havn't checked my door panels yet, cuz i havn't payed much attention to the door panels now i gota watch out for this shit.
Cheap plastic is common in ANY Chrysler vehicle, our Sebring we had to replace two door handels, window switches, a/c nobs, sunroof cover, and a few more things cause over the years they broke due to cheap plastic. American car companys wonder why us Americans buy Japanese cars, its cause crap like this that they sell us and get rich off of and were stuck with $500 a months payments..bullshit if you ask me. Hope the new Jeep aint garbage cause im really considering one, their nice!
@noriceformeplz Yeah I test drove the 2011 GC and it's really nice, although that's the same thing I thought about my 05. I'm going to wait a while and see what the real reviews say about the new GC in six months. Now that it's all American made again, maybe Jeep will have some real pride/quality in their vehicles again...
jeep is avoiding a recall...dealers and chrysler corporate are told to deny that there is a problem even though the passenger side door panel is on back order for 6+ months. its an obviously safety issue and hopefully nobody gets hurt as a result.
Don't count on Chrysler fixing anything as they've been absolved of any wrongdoing because of their buyout with FIAT. This company has a huge issue with build crap vehicles and getting out of fixing them.
MY 2005 Limited has the same problem. .I just had one door handle break off. I contacted jeep and they said there is no recall!!. Soon I will be going to the Dealer to show them the door and get action. Let me know if there is a way to get a discounted door ordered for my passenger side I do not have alot of money and will not pay over 100$ for there mistake
i have the same issue. 2005 JGC in great condition, loaded, minus the broken driver side and passenger side interior door handles. its becoming a safety concern since the doors are hard to open. i contacted a couple dealers and they wouldn't give me the time of the day. said $720 to fix each door. i called chrysler and put in a vehicle complaint, but they would not help either. they wouldn't even cover half for me. i sent a complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
I have the same problems with my jeep, exact same sequence as your doors. The dealer quoted me $700 per door to repair and said they have never heard of the issue before. I have filed with the NTSA as well but no response as of yet. My major concern is safety since neither of the back doors are able to be opened from the inside.

i have the same problem with my jeep , im gona go to the jeep dealer and im gona make a recall door panel issue . if they answere you, please let me know
Unfortunately, since Jeep now has a new flagship Grand Cherokee model, they couldn't care less about us. I'd doubt if anyone pays us any mind. I had to fight with corporate for months to get to where I got because my Jeep dealer consists of money hungry fools. The NHSTA doesn't care about the multiple complaints that people have launched either. Two options: sell it, or pay to get it fixed. Way to lose my repeat business Jeep.

I have had the same problem with my JGC 04. Bothe the driver's and front passenger doors have cracked and fallen apart. The dealership told me 700.00 per door to replace, no mention of any door/plastic defects. I plan on going down and talking to them about it. How did you get jeep to pay for half of repairs?
Everyone thats posted so far has had the 05 and up jeeps. I'm unaware of any issue with the previous series. My sister has an 02 and its in perfect condition after 150k. The 2005-2010 series is where the issue lies.
@brentwoodkris yeah, i have a 04 overland, with 78,000 on it and no issues like this with mine checked all the doors and handles. feels like its good quality. i was looking at a 05 and almost pulled the trigger on 1. but i couldnt pass up the deal i got on mine.

I have had the same problem with my JGC 04. Both the driver and passenger doors have cracked and fallen apart, worse then yours at this time. The dealership gave me quote of 700.00 per door to repair. No mention of a defect. I plan on going back down there and asking about this. What has Jeep told you and how did you get them to pay for the repairs?
after paying Jeep $685, they installed 3 new door panels for my jeep, BUT ONE WAS THE WRONG COLOR. Now I'm back to waiting for the other TWO to come in now. However, even though it's the wrong color, at least it works. I also got them to comp me the 4th door since it's been backordered for 5 months.

Thanks so much for posting your video..I have just received the mechanic bill for my recent mechanical issue...$2,954.00...i'm still recovering from that! Nonetheless, i hadn't even considered the door handles..All my door handles have the same problem...EXCEPT the driver door..I'm perfectly willing, angry enough, and able to begin the class action suit against Chrysler...hit me up on my email uriasm@aol.com for comments or questions. Thanks again for posting your video!
Update: The dealer still has 3 of my 4 panels and the last panel is still on 'National Backorder" and still has NO ETA. I'm currently negotiating with Jeep to pay for only 3 of the panels (totalling ~$750) and have the last panel fully comp'd for because I've been waiting for it for longer than 4 months now. I'll be updating as more information becomes available to me.

Hello same thing happend to my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2005 Limited edition. All four door handles broke off. I had to super glue them but they still keep breaking off. jejeje I bought my jeep out of a delalership. Plz let me know if anything gets resolved or If i need to upload a video aswell.
This is the same thing that is happening to my 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with only 28,000 miles on it. If you figure out anything else about the recall, pay to fix ect. please tell me.

Tonystone1203 1 month ago
@Tonystone1203 You won't need to reinforce the new doors. All of the stock from the original 2005 doors has been depleted and the original door part has been deprecated. The part has been superseded twice and the original part was probably only faulty due do a bad resin mix from whoever Jeep contracted with. FYI, you can also buy replacement kits on eBay for $25/door now. My father just installed two of them and they seem to be well constructed.
brentwoodkris 2 weeks ago
Received call from co-owner of Arrigo Dodge Chrysler Sawgrass (Fl). He stated that they will replace the door panels at no cost to me and they will also contact Chrysler about the issue. Thumbs up to Arrigo Dodge-Chrysler Sawgrass for stepping up to the plate! - looks like there are still some auto dealerships out there with old-school values!

Just got a return call from Sales Manager at Arrigo Dodge Chrysler Sawgrass in response to my complaint that they recently sold me a used 05 Jeep with cracked rear door panels.

I filed a complaint on the NHTSA website just now. While there I did a search and found less than 200 complaints filed for 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokees for this problem. From surfing the net it appears there are many more out there with this problem. Everyone affected should file a report with the NHTSA.

Just got off the phone with the Chrysler Rep. They will cover some of it, but want me to come up with $1,000.

The car is in excellent condition but soon after I purchased it (used), the back door pockets completely broke out the two front door pockets are cracked and broken but not completely out yet. once getting though to them, and everything was resolved how long did it take to get your doors fixed? and was that number you posted the number of the people who got you the deal, and got it fixed? thanks
NvilleOL70 10 months ago
@NvilleOL70 It took me nearly 12 months to get everything solved. That latency is mostly due to the fact that one of the doors (Passenger front) was on national back-order. I had the first 3 panels installed in under 3 months (but one was the wrong color that they later had to replace). Also, the only number I posted that I remember was ~$685, which is what I ended up paying in the long run. I thought it was a good deal, but apparently others have posted saying that Jeep fully comp'd it!
brentwoodkris 10 months ago
@brentwoodkris hmm alright what was that phone number you posted?
NvilleOL70 10 months ago
Cause: Bad batches of plastic resin mix from supplier. EVERYONE file complaints at SaferCar.Gov - owners - file complaint. 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee's have cracking & crumbling plastic surrounding the door handles. In case of fire or crash, you would not be able to open the door to get out of a deadly situation, due to continual cracking plastic that was used in the door panels holding door handles. Sometimes the entire door handle is no longer connected to plastic and is inoperable.

Disgusting!

DodgeMan360 1 year ago
@DodgeMan360 Yeah I test drove one, I'm a bit worried about how much it relies on computing systems, especially with the power struts (those must cost a fortune to replace/repair). Also, I noted that there is more wind noise in the new model as well as the more annoying fact that the HEMI models idle at double what mine does and is clearly computerized to not be as responsive. I can basically leave tire anywhere I want with mine, the new one is SLOW to respond.
brentwoodkris 1 year ago
@brentwoodkris Yeah. I cant say ive driven one, but have been inside both model year Jeeps, definatly feels alot nicer in the new ones. As for the engine, I agree, my 08' Ram Hemi works friggen good, so much power. But the new ones have much more horsepower, its a shame that the computer would rob alot of the performance..
DodgeMan360 1 year ago
@DodgeMan360 Yeah the new one's are definitely more comfortable and more aesthetically pleasing, but I bought my Jeep for a good mix of aesthetics/performance, so I'd never trade up to the new model.

Did you see the news story where they showed Jeep Grand Cherokee assemblers getting high on their lunch breaks. Do you really believe the 2011 will be better? Would you be interested in a Bridge I have for sale near Brooklyn?
SolidCAMcontest 8 months ago

If there is a class action law suit, I would like to be in on it!!!
jenni0478 1 year ago

New panel installed January 11, 2011.
lspell 1 year ago
@lspell
I am having problems with corporate and they are completely denying that other 2005 JGC owners have had their door panels replaced at a $50 deductible cost. Could you share the information of whom you dealt with at corporate? It sounds like they are a lot more reasonable than the the four "case managers" I have talked to Litza, Sharon, Annette and Paul..
applebrit 1 year ago
@applebrit
Best of luck!
lspell 11 months ago
UPDATE: Had the final 4th panel (passenger front) installed last week. Finally all is well with the Jeep again. Total out of pocket $685 when I never had a warranty. I guess the panels finally came back in stock but finally I'm back to driving myself around and have passengers that can get out of the Jeep THEMSELVES again!
brentwoodkris 1 year ago 5
@brentwoodkris I'm glad you have door panels now which will make the car safe. I go Friday to have my car evaluated for four new panels. can't pass a safety inspection without door handles. The door handles aren't something they look at when doing a safety inspection, but if they get in the car and then couldn't get out, they realized it's a safety issue. I like my jeep but I did report this issue to the feds as a safety issue. I don't intend on paying a dime for my four new panels.
lisa7052005 1 year ago

We have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, and it has the same problem. So far, only our front two doors have been affected.

I will back you up with any proof you I can get to help get a recall on this. As I said, I have an '05 WK with untill now has two broken handles.
vettecore 1 year ago
Yes I have the same problem... Both panels on the passenger side front and rear are broken from the handles... Did they issue a recall for those yet??
It's happening to every WK and WH here in Kuwait aswell !!!
vettecore 1 year ago
The reason you have cheap plastic is because Daimler (Chryslers former owner) had a 50% reduction in the cost of interior quality. The reason so many chryslers are plagued with problems is because of all the cost cutting from the bastards over at Daimler. They put the cheapest parts possible in them. Chrysler seems like they're in good hands now with Fiat and it shows because the new Grand Cherokees are 1000 times better than the old ones.

Hope the new Jeep aint garbage cause im really considering one, their nice!
noriceformeplz 1 year ago
@noriceformeplz Yeah I test drove the 2011 GC and it's really nice, although that's the same thing I thought about my 05. I'm going to wait a while and see what the real reviews say about the new GC in six months. Now that it's all American made again, maybe Jeep will have some real pride/quality in their vehicles again...

@brentwoodkris lol did you see the video of the new Jeep GC where they pushed in the climate thing the whole piece feel in!!

jeep is avoiding a recall...dealers and chrysler corporate are told to deny that there is a problem even though the passenger side door panel is on back order for 6+ months. its an obviously safety issue and hopefully nobody gets hurt as a result.
juanpablo20019 1 year ago
Don't count on Chrysler fixing anything as they've been absolved of any wrongdoing because of their buyout with FIAT. This company has a huge issue with build crap vehicles and getting out of fixing them.

You should buy a "LifeHammer" that way you can smash the windows and cut your seatbelts in the event that you do crash and can't open your doors.

What has Jeep told you and how did you get them to pay for the repairs?
csmangum 1 year ago
after paying Jeep $685, they installed 3 new door panels for my jeep, BUT ONE WAS THE WRONG COLOR.
