YES! THIS is the piece I was trying to recall lol. I'm glad I finally figured out which composer it was. I think he and Debussy were my favorites :) Thanks for sharing!
@bubblybassoonist - agreed -- i guess they've never been to a rock concert either! maybe if they were playing one note over and over with no feeling and no dynamic they could get away with not moving. :)
That's a pretty unnecessarily harsh reply. All I was trying to express is that Ravel's quartet is one of the best pieces of music ever written and it would be a daunting task to advance tonal music any further.
I felt that my heart was in my throat the whole time... The kind of overwhelming feeling of beauty that makes you just wanna cry out. xD This quartet is brilliant, Ravel too!
Wonderful playing. Sascha Schneider told me once that the heart of the string quartet is the middle voices, the 2nd fiddle and viola. Then he was particularly referring to his favorite darlings the Guarneri. But it applies big time to your quartet. Magnificent! Thanks for sharing.

It's amazing how large this quartet sounds, even though it's only four people. Ravel is amazing.

those people are moving too much. it's kinda creepy

@fsxbeginner9000 - to play a string instrument involves moving... if they didn't move, there would be no sound!! ;0)

I'm sure you're gonna have your own style in the future. Geniuses are just so damn intimidating.

don't stop - you're possibly great

@kitchitwee
Why? Because someone was better than you?
Sounds like you don't really want to compose.

If you had actually said that, I would not have made that comment.
In any case the comment was not harsh at all.

You are correct Dolphy. I'm thinking more of Ravel's piano piece jeux d'eau which predates Debussy's piano piece of the same mood. Sorry.

This is also one of my favourite pieces by Ravel. And to think he composed this years before Debussy's string quartet!

Incorrectomundo.
Debussy's Quartet predates this one by ten years.

Everyone should have stopped writing for string quartet after this was composed. Stop the writing! Ravel has won!
