Hi there I'm wondering to start practicing abit I'm only 12-14 years old but is their a club to train and jnr uk team I would really love to be part of ultimate frisbee? :)
I mean, sometimes it is acceptable to get a little too close on the mark (as long as you don't contest the foul call), but this shit is just flat out cheating. I think a good rule of thumb is that if you aren't touching the thrower you are in the clear. But he's definitely straddling the dude's leg...haha
play elite ultimate and you'll realize that pretty much all good players put on very close marks and aren't afraid to foul sometimes. not that they intentionally hack, but it's better to stop a throw than allow a break off. you can't foul out in ultimate, and i don't believe they are cheating by being aggressive. conversely, part of being a good thrower is being able to throw and break people with a strong mark. and calling disc space is for pussies in my opinion haha
Totally. I am all for putting on a close mark, with occasional bumping and fouling. What I hate, though, is when people straddle your leg (effectively humping you) and grab at your arms and all that bullshit.
And "disc space" isn't even in the rules anymore. Now it's just called a foul.
At the World Games, the WFDF rules were used. The latest version of the WFDF rules is the 2009 version, at least on the WFDF website. Does anyone have a link to the 2010 rules? Or are you referring to UPA rules, (latest edition, 11th, written in 2007)?
it's the disc space rule. a line drawn between any 2 points on the marker cannot be within 1 disc diameter of the thrower's torso or pivot. so yes, should have been called.
Well, I am not sure about WFDF rules, but I know that in UPA 11th edition, if your mark is within one disc's space of your torso the call is simply "foul." In past editions, "disc space" was a stall-reducing violation -- similar to "double-team" -- but that no longer exists.
So ya, I wasnt saying that the concept of disc space doesn't exist, I was just saying that there is no special disc space call (it's just a regular old foul).
Either way, it's still douchey to bump people on the mark haha.

18.1.1.3. Disc Space any part of a defensive player is less than one disc diameter
away from the torso or pivot of the thrower.
WFDF Rules of Ultimate 2009
Official Version (effective 2009-03-14)
Not sure why people are saying "disc space" isn't in the rules... it is!

2009 rules are old. In the 2010 rules, disc space has been taken out.
