I admit I wasn't able to catch obvious abuse on camera while I was there, but I know others who came earlier saw some; thus the title of this vid. As for being a "bored loser", I went to this rodeo on my own, alone, to help the animals, and got harassed for it by a rodeo thug. It was a little scary and not at all boring. I don't think anyone who stands up for what he believes in, and actually goes out and does something about it, is a loser. So what have YOU ever done for the less fortunate?
@BanWolfHunting THERE IS NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR ME TO WRITE EVERYTHING I HAVE DONE FOR A ANIMAL!! BUT THE LEAST OF MY EFFORTS BEATS THIS CRAP YOU PUT ON HERE CALLING IT ANIMAL ABUSE!
yall like to complain and find things wrong with everything, why dont yall do that with the government and try to fix it and leave how we make a living alone
yall like to complain and find things wrong with everything, why dont yall do that with the government and try to fix it and leave how we make a living alone
Alrighty prick what you call a "bucking strap" is a flank rope and is barley tied on its just on enough so the bulls know that it's there if you weren't so worried about the fucking bulls and pulled your head out of your ass and grew real nuts and hop on the back of a bull. Cowboys these days aren't what you call "thugs" and about the whole cattle prod thing it don't hurt I've been shocked by them pleanty of times.
I see nothing wrong with rodeo it is our heritage and animal athletes can get hurt during competition but are not intentional hurt or mistreated. If you want to spend your time tearing down someones heritage it should be the mu slums who mutalate there womens vagina!
So your idea of "respect" is tearing young animals away from their mothers, driving them long distances in blazing heat, herding them unwillingly into pens with other strange animals, and getting them to run at top speed until jerking them painfully to the ground, often breaking bones and necks? Is that what you mean?
Face it: ALL RODEOS ARE INHERENTLY CRUEL.... period.
Comments with profanity have been deleted. If you want to have a rational discussion, fine. But I won't tolerate obscenities and ugly language here; it adds nothing to the discussion and children might read them.
How interesting that rodeos these days are trying to ban video cameras at their "events." An admission of guilt if ever their was one. :) The days of rodeos are numbered. Thank you for this vid, Journeyman, Obviously anyone taking pictures is subjected to harrassment, and you did a brave thing. Keep up the great work!
Very sad, lets see how the rodeo people like to be ropes, chocked , dragged thru the mud, zapped with 6 thousand volts of electricity, slammed to the ground then when their bones are all broken sent to slaughterhouse.
Rodeosupporter510, JrRodeoPres, and all you other assholes who support rodeos, just FACE IT!! You abuse your animals, you're doing a bad thing, journeyman47 did the right thing and animal abusing rodeos, shouldn't be around anymore!! Now shut your mouths, stop accusing journeyman of "breaking the law" and let all the HUMANE people end this cruelty.
Please stop wasting your time responding to this guy. You have enough supporters including myself who believe in the western heritage. It is a waste of your time and mine to even respond. This guy obviously has nothing better to do with his time. Let him attempt to change a heritage that has been part of this country for many years. He is just one in a bucket of assholes who have nothing better to do than eat their own bullshit and call it a day.
Rodeos have been going on for maybe 100 years, yes? So according to you, anything that lasts that long, no matter how cruel, should not be changed. Right?
That's what they say about bullfighting, that it's "traditional". And harvesting bear bile... a "traditional" medicine. Not to mention bear-baiting (dogs attacking de-clawed, de-toothed bears), which still takes place in Pakistan as part of their "heritage" Still think heritage is sacrosanct?
2: And what about fox hunting and hare coursing? And trophy hunting? All fine English "traditions" that lasted centuries.. and all cruel, stupid and pointless.
For centuries dog- and cockfighting was legal until just recently. Think they should still be held in every back yard? Or Thailand's traditional phaajan, the baby elephant "breaking" ritual of torture? Or how about the dancing bears of India, who dance because of coarse ropes kept in their tender sinuses? Do you defend these too?
3. As for some REALLY long-lasting traditions, gladiators fought in arenas for nearly a millenium, against humans and any other animals the Romans could find. Another ancient tradition was slavery, which we only ended 150 years ago. Our country was founded on slavery, and it was defended as our "heritage" right up to the Civil War. Do you think we should bring that back as well?
If you disagree with all these other traditions, why is your rodeo so different? Could it not be wrong as well?
I feel that any further dialogue between us would be an exercise in futility. You have your beliefs, as do I. I would only ask that you not exploit the the minors involved. Thank you
Just because you feel it's immoral and unethical still does not give you the right to video minors without parental consent. You said you did not know the contestants were under age yet you were told twice. Also, what animals were injured? None.
Um, wrong again. I was told by one of the paramedics thatt an animal was injured earlier in the day (before I arrived).
If you are really a rodeo person, you of all people know that animals ALWAYS get inured at rodeos. I don't go to them and even I know that.
Of course, they try to cover it up and minimize it, telling lies like "the horse is tired" or "he'just got the wind knocked out of him" when the animal has a broken neck or some serious injury.
And as for your first sentence, you are wrong there too. You say i have no right to fight something I feel is immoral or unethical? What would you have said to people who hid jews from the Nazis? It was against German law to do so, but they did it anyway.
One should ALWAYS fight something they see as wrong, no matter what others say. To keep silent only encourages the wrongdoers.
Oh, and one more thing: I don't know why you keep dragging up the objection that it was somehow wrong to video the "minors" bull riding. If they were old enough to ride those large bulls, they can certainly take care of themselves.
And if their parents were putting them in such a dangerous position in the first place, they can't pretend they're suddenly coddled babies when somebody videos them. You can't have it both ways. These "kids" were so big I didn't even know they were minors.
If you look closely, you can see that I videoed the last competition of the day, the bull riding. I heard the confrontation took place that morning, long before I arrived.
The jerk who confronted me, right where I was standing in this video, told me to leave (quite illegally, I might add) with threats, AFTER I had taken this short video. I was just standing there watching, the whole time he was spewing obscenities and filth at me.
We're not exploiting children to do anything unlawful, this is simply their culture and part of their history. If you have a problem with this try going about it legally rather than exploiting children on the internet.
I didn't say it was unlawful, but I do think it's immoral and unethical.
Just because something is legal doesn't make it right. Slavery was legal up til 150 years ago; did that make it right?
And if some kid wants to show off in a rodeo ring riding an unwilling animal, there is nothing "exploitive" about showing that on the internet. He obvously wanted people to watch him.
Its a shame that there are people out there that feel that their beliefs are so important that they would invade the privacy of a family doing something that is not only fun to them but is not in any way against the law. I am also sorry that you feel that our own western heritage is lame. I for one am very proud of my heritage.
"Invade your privacy"? Don't make me laugh. All the performers were riding bulls and roping baby calves in a free, public arena, for anybody to come see.
As for being proud of your heritage, your history is one thing, roping calves and injuring unwilling animals in 2009 is something quite different.
Hes not videoing them because they are breaking any laws. Maybe he just doesnt like the way they are playing and wants to exploit their activities on the internet. Any adult parent reading this, I am sure, thoroughly understands what I am saying. Any GOOD parent would want to protect their children.
On my third approach you became defiant and belligerent, and insisted you could do whatever you wanted and that if I touched you, you would have me arrested for assault. No one touched you; although I am sure they wanted to. Try to imagine yourself sitting in a public park watching your children play, when all of sudden a complete stranger shows up and begins to video them.
As for your being bullied by rodeo thugs, I confronted you three times and asked you to stop videoing the rodeo, as these are all children under the age of 18. The first two times you denied you were videoing at all. But as I watched you continually following the contestants with your camera, it became obvious to me that you were videoing.
So doing any of these things on an inanimate object would make no since. And yes, having the necessary skills to rope a live animal is an accomplishment. Im not clear on the bulls having a buckstrap tied around their groin. There is, however, a cotton rope used in this area. And yes they are trying to kick it off. But most of these animals are bred to buck. Much the same as a German Shorthair dog is bred to hunt birds, or a Peregrine falcon is bred to hunt.
Thats what competition is all about. With investments in horses, tack, horse trailers, attire and all the other things that go with it, I would hardly call it a hobby. Rodeo is based on the skills used on a cattle ranch. Their roping skills are essential, even in todays ranch life. Riding the animals for a given amount of time refers to the early western days when cowboys dared each other.
As for this being a weekend hobby, nothing could be further from the truth. These young contestants rodeo throughout the entire year. Some of these contestants do High School Rodeo, or compete in other rodeo circuits. And yes, they do like to show off their skills.
You forgot to mention that this was a Junior Rodeo in which all of the participants were ages 6 thru 18, with Peewee events for ages 1 thru 5. This was a youth event, which would explain why the fans were mostly family and friends of the contestants.
It's too bad you're teaching your children starting as toddlers that it's ok to exploit animals for needless entertainment and for "fun". I guess you were brainwashed yourself as a child that its just fine and dandy to do that, and so you continue the cycle.
I guess it will take passing laws banning rodeos to stop you from your endless need to exploit your fellow mammals, since you obviously won't wake up and see that it's wrong.
In response to the video and comments made by journeyman47, Id just like to say nice video. It clearly shows a very nice ride made by a young cowboy with good prospects for a future on the Pro Rodeo circuit. The comments, however, left a bit to be desired.
I don't see how you could have not known it was a jr rodeo, it was clearly posted and if you actually paid attention you would have quickly picked up on that. Bottom line it is ilegal to put minors on the Internet without parent concent and there are clearly two minors on your video. So please don't come to our rodeo and expolite children on the Internet it is a federal offense.
I didn't say that. What I said was, I didn't know that ALL the peformers were minors.
And please don't exploit your children by teaching them that their fellow animals are only objects to be used for your stupid entertainment. Teach them respect an compassion... if you know the meaning of those words.
And don't exploit the animals either, who I'm sure would much tather be peacefully grazing in a meadow and not being ridden by some phony cowboy wannave like you.
Also please don't spread false facts that we were shocking the bulls because there was not a single hot shot on the rodeo grounds that whole weekend. So please get your facts straight.
Actually you did know that they were minors because you were at a jr rodeo. And I spoke to the lady who is in front of you on the video and she does not appreciate you putting her child on the Internet .
But she doesn't mind her "child" risking his/her life bull riding, and all in front of an audience? Wow, tha's some dichotomy there.
Thsi was my first rodeo ever, and I didn't know that meant that all the performers were minors. Perhaps if someone had been nice enough to talk to me about it, I might have known. As it was, the only person who talked to me cursed and threatened me, thinking that I was an "animal rights faggot" as he so nicely put it.. Many people overheard but said nothing..
But the bull rider was a minor, did you have permission from his parents? I don't think so. So please we abid by the law we wish you would do the same and not exploit children on the Internet.
I didn't know the bull rider was a minor. But I really don't think a brief, distant view of him or her riding on a bull constitutes "exploitation".
It does, however, very clearly depict animal exploitation. The only reason the bull is bucking is to get that stupid, tight buckstrap off it. You guys exploit this reactoin in bull and horses (when you're not shocking them) just to show off... and you say I"M exploiting? Way to teach your kids compassion and respect for their fellow animals.
I hope you know that it is illegal to video minors without parental consent, and if you were so against our rodeo, why did you sit in a corner like a coward.
The sun was so bright I couldn't see where the camera was pointed; I didn't mean to have those girls in the view... i just wanted to catch the bull riding to show how lame it really is.
As for "hiding in a corner.... I walked all over the grounds several times.
Wow, that was fast-- I just uploaded this a few minutes ago! Thanks for watching! (I know it 's a pretty lame vid, but it was for practice-- the next ones will be better.)

@codyj103 : Yeah, it takes a real man to lasso a baby cow and jerk its neck backwards while it's running away from you.
I've seen the damage buckstraps do on beautiful horses (bloody raw welts on tender skin) so don't bother spouting your lame excuses here.
Ok maybe all cowboys aren't thugs, but the people in charge of rodeos (the rodeo mafia) sure are.

It is sad that anyone would participate in rodeos. Thanks for the upload!
