  • I've been playing harp for 40 years and always struggled with 3rd position until I saw this video. WTF! You made it so easy to understand!! Thanks so much. Now it's time to woodshed.

  • Thanks dude . . . I thought I was already able to play in 3rd position but now I realise what a lot of notes I SHOULDN't have been playing.

  • What a good sound! Thanks for the video.

  • The penny has finally dropped!!Thanks Jason.

  • Jason is playing an A harp

i recommend getting a solid two draw bend before you even try three draw. The two draw bend is vital for good cross harp (2nd pos)

important to understand also is that, every half step is a note. the third draw can be bent 1.5 steps, thus you can play 4 distinct notes on the three draw. The two draw can be bent 1 step, thus allowing for 3 possible notes.

  • Thanks much. This was a bit of a dead zone for me too.

  • Thanks for that! Would I be right in saying that Little Walter plays third posish on 'I Just Want to Make Love to You'?

  • Right indeed on a 16 hole chromatic.

  • How did I miss this gem until now? Gold dust!

Thanks as ever for giving so much away, Mark

  • Try using a T sound at first...if all fails look up adjusting action/offset on the reed...could be the harp...

What U do is pure magic Don't kid yourself

  • Jason, Thanks for taking the time to teach. I've learned a lot from your videos. Keep them coming....Thanks again.

    Joe from New Jersey

  • Why is it when I play those six notes I sound so much better then you. Kidding.

Your tone is wonderful and hearing you get such a rich sound from those notes is truly inspiring. You are invaluable thanks

  • No you rock thanks for watching, learning and commenting!

  • Thanks for the great lesson Jason. You added in the 2 blow (major second) to the blues scale on the lower octave. How does that fit in? It's not part of any scale that I know...

  • In third pos. it is the two not the major or the minor really just the two and it's part of many minor scales (Dorian, Harmonic minor, aeolian are three off the top of my head...Try those.

  • I meant the blind owl Long live the blind owl not allison steel the night owl

  • jason please save me. I need to know how to fix my bad harps. What is the best tuner to get. Long live the night owl

  • Hey I use crappy old tuners like "Korg" etc...they work good enough for me...You can get a great tuner like a Peterson strobe tuner...which you can now DOWNLOAD a digital version of! those work better obviously...but any cheap 10 dollar tuner with a microphone will work.

    Thanks

    J

  • Good playing J, my favorite position, lots of chords and chromatic possibilities. When are we gonna get together and you teach me? :-P I'm sure Brady wouldn't mind ha!

  • Possibly the most useful 3rd pos lesson online. It's handy to see how you work the lower octave. You've given me a little more confidence down there, thanks mate.
