@xsf908 Seaquest was canned because Season2 made no sense and Season3 was crap on a stale cracker. But it had potential. B5 Crusade was canned because no one cared to watch after the epic ending of the original B5 Series. There was no point to it. Space: Above and Beyond was canned because it was too thoughtful for its own good... and it was on Fox.
The prices on the DVD release of Seaquest are all over the place. The cheapest price I have found for a new season 1 is $34 + shipping. Season 2, on the other hand, you can buy online brand new for like $12 + shipping. Finally, season 3 (2032) I have yet to find on DVD.
One thing i remember reading was roy scheider liked the first 2 seasons however considering the network was gearing towards more military on season 3 it was very like every other show out there and thats a possibility why he left. Ironsides as captain had its moments he seemed to play the By the book style of commander until later. but i haven seen it in years last one i saw was when the sub fighter pilot got killed off.
The first season was a bit too "family friendly" if you know what I mean... then they got a bit too deep into the whole aliens thing (which is why Roy Scheider left the show). By the end, when they got it right, they didn't have the right cast anymore... It was NBC being completely out of touch as usual. Remember when JAG was on NBC compared to when it was on CBS?
I haven't seen seaQuest DSV or 2032 in years, and watching this I only now realize that "the geeky guy with the glasses" was Ted Raimi! Aw, man, that just makes me want to watch it even more. Ashamed to say the only character names I recall from either series are Luke and Darwin, but only because I remember how Darwin said it.
I prefer DSV myself - one of the reasons being Roy Scheider's portrayal of the Captain. He was always my favourite.
@Usul573 maybe it just hasnt been release yet i mean if i recall right there was a gap between the release of season 1 and 2 i have look at sites and it have S1 release 2005 while it has S2 release 2008 i cant recall if that is right but if so 3 year gap so give it time it will prob come
@sarek63 Unfortunately, you couldnt recapture the elegance of the cast with current actors. There isnt anyone like Roy Scheider who could portray Bridger.
@sarek63 I don't think it'd come back - one it had poor ratings as mentioned and then to add to it Roy Schneider and Jonathan Brandis are dead - former due to heath, the latter committed suicide.
I didnt' think it was bad myself until they changed it to the future.
I can agree that first season is the best but i never liked the second and third.
The showed got ruined by making bad decisions by NBC, such as adding Aliens, Lasers and Daggers. Seaquest DSV is not "Underwater Star Trek", its a modern day update on 1000 Leagues under the sea.
I am a big fan of the show, it really had a lot of potentials.
Problem was the first season was WAY too family oriented (ie: the one with the haunted sunken ship... come on..), the second one had WAY too much to do with space (there's enough shows on it, they should have stayed out), and finally when they get it down in season 3, they lose Bridger, Ortiz and Brody (halfway through)
same here shannon, same here. I remember when I was about 12-13 yo and whenever Seaquest was on, NOBODY was allowed to talk to me, especially when JB was on screen. *Sigh* even after all these years he still makes my heart throb
this was a great show for its time i was always waiting for it to merge with startrek though for some reason. i just the two would have gone great togeather.
i liked watching them because of jonathan even if season 3 wasn't as good as 1 and 2 i still endured through the shows until his parts came up. still a big fan of seaquest after all these years!
many say season 3 is when it found its feet. Being more miltary. Not family like season 1 and scifact. With season 2 being to scifi for people and to many silly giant fantasy things. 3 was the way it should have been, miltary. But no one knew it since it didnt start that way. They lost the female Mom audience when Roy left which didnt leave many daughter fans for Lucas.
The problem with season three was the fact it was just like every other sci-fi show you'd see anywhere. Seasons one and two of seaQuest brought something new to the table and the show just totally lost all its identity with the third season. The third season might have been watchable as a stand-alone show, but putting the seaQuest label on it turns it into the bastard child nobody wants to talk about.
I just bought and finished watching Season 2, and it was no where near as good as Season 1...just too much sci-fi to it, and not sci-fact like in Season 1.
Plus, don't forget about Louis and Clark. It was on the same time slot when Season3 was around, PLUS NBC was always delaying the show to play a Sunday night football game. It had many problems that led to its demise. But at least Season 3 had more stability than 2.
I'll completely agree that the third season was more stable than the second, but season 2 still "felt like seaQuest," at least to me, while season 3 just felt like some completely foreign show. I'll also agree that season 2 is strictly inferior to season 1.
Trust me, it was really sad. Because I was watching Season 2, and literally had to skip parts in a couple shows because they just seemed to stupid to me. I never did that with Season 1.
And yes, Season 3 seemed like a completely different show...only thing that was the same was the boat and the crew (except Bridger).
I just wonder who was running the show to make it go the path that it did. If it stuck to science-fact like Season 1, it would have lasted a LOT longer...possibly 4-5 years.
Yeah, I remember my dad and I would watch Seasons 1 and 2 together, during the show's run on NBC. But when the promos started to air for Season 3, we basically said "What the hell??" So Season 3 is also non-existent to my dad and I.
Well now i finally figured out what the show was called lol, was looking for a fair while caus i couldnt remeber wht it was called as i only saw this like most ppls here when i was a kid, only saw season 3 & liked it, so i suppose i dont really know wht everyone thinks is missing compared the ealier seasons. anyways i loved the show :)
your all forgetting that sea quest was just a better version of voyage to the bottmm of the sea, i wish they wud release that on dvd i loved that show !!!
I notice you are over in the UK. Sorry you don't have Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea on DVD there. We have it in the US. I wish you the best of luck that they come out with it.
O.M.G.! I miss this show so badly!!! I still love it and I'm so glad that it's finally available on DVD (Season 1 already is, Season 2 will be in January 2008...)
You know, I don't remember a lot of the show(as I was 5-6 years old while watching it). But I do remember parts here & there vaguely. But I gotta say, totally just watched it cause of Jonathan & the dolphin. Use to watch it & GH, so I could get to Aladdin...which, as I didn't know at the time, also had Jonathan. SeaQuest & GH were my moms shows...she got me hooked on them. I sadly was never able to convert her into a Aladdin the series fan, lol.
Bottom line is, it just wasn't the SeaQuest without Nathan Bridger, and Roy Scheider left for one reason only: he didn't like where they were taking the show, and with good reason! This show was about the sea, since when did Aliens and space travel get involved with that? There were already enough shows and movies about space sci-fi, this was meant to be different... And what was with the laser guns? That's just crap!

season 2. Which was to me the best they had the right direction and it was at its best. Season one to family too cheese. Season 3 to strict to milatary. Ok season 2 had some bad moments, but they had the direction of TREK and the effects and talent all going for it. They shouldnt have messed with it. Great show, John was the best.
It was "Playtime", episode six of second season. This and the next one (with the boat controlled by Bridger's AI) are the episodes I probably enjoyed most.
Is this seaQuest or Dallas? Seriously, what were they thinking? I'll never understand what happened to this show. First season was definitely the best, although the second season had its moments.
