The german version by Wader is not more than a very poor imitation of the great original version...he changed the lyrics and the message of the song. For Wader, soldiers are apparently murderers and rapists.

wtf, dochíq: 'For Wader, soldiers are apparently murderers and rapists'. That's their job, right? Do you have even a faintest idea about what is included in the purview of a soldier? Murdering, raping and getting killed in unbeliavably painful ways.
No, it's aoldiers job to kill, not to murder. That's a difference, but I don't expect YOU to understand it...
And it's also not his job to rape. An Army is only effectice in combat if it is disciplined.
And to the songs: The Original by Eric Bogle is about what most soldiers really are: Victims of the war. Wader wrote his interpretation for the peace-movement in the 80's and he sings about a young soldier, who wanted to rape a girl...and that was not the intention of Eric Bogle!
And to conclude it: You can like Waders version or not (I don't), but it has to be said, that his version of the song ist not true to the original by Bogle, which is covered here by the Dropkicks.
"Drop Dead" - That's real pacifism, isn't it? But of course I understand, cause I know a Troll, when I see him - if you lack arguments, you have to insult your opponent. I would like to discuss this further with you, but you obviously lack the mental capacity for an argument among adults, so I fear that would be a waste of time...that's a real shame, but no real surprise.

i think that you are all right... all i ment was that battlefield tours sound for me more like something for poeple that are excited about war and they regreat that they don't leave during war... and i'm sorry if i offented anyone... but i still think that war sucks... and i know that the most importent in this song is that "it all hapend again" and the most importent for us should be making sure that it won't happend again...
Hannes Wader took the melody from Green Fields of France written by Eric Bogle and changend the lyrics. This is the original Version. Wader made a "german" version of this song.
this video is just stupid... why someone wont to do something like battlefield-tour?? and why you think that that was IIWW? you've only shown heroic bullshit... what about hollocaust? what about destroyd warsaw? what about british and u.s. treachery against poland? well what do i know about that... fuck i hate war...
ur a fucking twat iv just been on a history trip with my school! u should fucking see what these blokes went through, they went through hell, absolute fucking hell. 9,000,000 people dead from countrys all over the world. listen to the lyrics see what its saying, see what its telling u. yes wars a terrible thing but it has to happen and start to respect the young men who fought and died! for there country
The "Green Fields of France" is about a soldier, Willy McBride, who died in 1916, and buried near Albert and Beaumont-Hamel at the Authville British Cemetery, where his unit the Inniskilling Fusiliers were deployed at the time.
So in conclusion, this song isn't about WWII, it's about WWI, and moreso, if you hate war, then surely you must comprehend why the "tour" here is so appropriate.
Respect the dead, for we are by them far outnumbered.
This must be the saddest song ever. Written by Eric Boggle from Scotland, now living in Australia its correct title is No Man's Land. But as Eric said, he doesnt care what people call it, as long as they sing and listen to it. He also wrote the equally sad "Who'll Come Waltzing Matilda With Me". Pogues do a decent cover.
this song...alot of meaning by an amazing band. the voice, coompliments the song perfectly, the music, compliments the lyrics perfectly. this is the only song to have given me a severe hatred of war
Good job! What's 2:37?

Aah, dochiq, you're one of those hopeless idiots who love to glorify uniformed murderers. Sorry to have wasted my time with your ilk. Drop dead!

the melody is from the song "es ist an der zeit" (It's time) from the german songwriter Hannes Wader.
It's a peace-song. But in english a great song too.
Well, my English is bad.
German committers aren't victims. No commiseration for them.
