I would agree that Wil Self is pretentious. However, as always, lurking down beneath the superior drawl and the tight rope walkers disdain there are many subtle , comic and persistantly observant views and comments to be made. In fact I found him less pretentious here than he usually is, simply because he actually did the voices and threw himself completely into the story.
