@Dougolai I don't think so but I doubt you'd want to listen to it without the visual aspect. There are some amazing pieces of music on Oddsac but alot of it's soundscapes which were written to accompany the visuals. It kind of needs to taken as a whole in my opinion aside from a few tracks such as this, Mr Fingers, Tantrum Barb which work as stand alone pieces.
you know how a song makes you feel a certain way. they accomplished it with visuals that perfectly match the song. mid lake did a good version with "it covers the hillsides" too.
by this album, its not just creative beautiful music, its seasoned classic jams of perfect understanding. If anything goes right in society between now and forever, animal collective will be in the history books
one of the things that I love about panda and avey, besides the sheer creativity, is the effortlessness of it. it's like the concept of "tao." they're definitely tapping into some sort of flow. nothing ever sounds forced. weird? hell yes...and i love it. no band sonically does anything remotely like this...this good. i just love how unpretentious, un-thought-out, and so very in the moment their melodies and rhythms are. now to go listen to panda's song 'boneless' which is perfect, of course.
It's about how we're all in our screens, right now, see, I'm in my screen typing this and I know what he means to feel frail when I'm lost in so many screens and I hardly know of the natural things
@TheTrackstatus this is so true. Everyone asks me how I can listen to it, it's just a bunch of noise, and I tell them it's creative and if you actually take the time to listen to some of their stuff you'll find a band that's like no other.
this song is so obviously about tripping face. "outer-space that I can never touch." "crippling my abilities to breathe and take a step out from my usual places." seeing screens?? these guys have obviously tripped on a lot of shit
i think it's about being true to yourself and not letting all the outside influences of the material world influence who you are. not all their songs are about drugs, in fact most aren't...
@nauseousqueasy Ha, well the drug would be "Life" amongst other influences of what they are going through at the moment in time...who care's if chemicals and other drugs are involved... accept it either way.. and don't hang yourself on one side of the truth because INFACT you don't know what is truth
@nauseousqueasy ya but you have to admit this music is influenced by psychedelic drugs. It might not be about drugs but tripping on acid while listening on this was what it was made for. beautiful song though
@nauseousqueasy I'd venture to say that you're both wrong. The song is pretty obviously a lamentation of the prevalence of technology in our lives. The "outer space i can never touch" is the internet, which "cripples my abilities to breathe and take a step out from my usual places" because we tend to filter our internet experience to our own interests and beliefs.
As for the song being anti-materialistic, I'd argue the opposite. The lyrics definitely favor the tangible over the virtual.
@gregorygumpas ALSO, for them to make a song at this point that was meant to be about drugs, using the metaphor 'screens'... would be extremely dumb and corny, and they would never do that. that would be terrible.
speaking of...screens....i just opened up 2 browser windows, each with this video. then i hit play on each a bit off synch, but on beat, so it gave a roundabout type of effect. works super well with this song...and many other AC songs. SO many more subtle harmonies are generated that way. it's intoxicating to listen to
@avedic I just tried that, and it was incredible! If you start the second one a full measure off from the first. I'm doing this with all their songs now...or maybe this one but with like 5 browsers open instead of 2
@lmfviolet78 haha...excellent. I actually started doing that with my own songs as a way to inspire creative ideas. Or I'll take two of my songs and mash them together, ala Girl Talk, and see how it sounds. Usually it's just muddy and incoherent....but every now and then a gem shines through and it sounds amazing. I now use this idea, mashing up my own songs, to write new stuff all the time. It leads you into really creative territory you never would have thought up on your own.
@nauseousqueasy I've heard Pet Sounds and it sounds nothing like Panda Bear. Besides, that album is ancient and does not count for Brian Wilson as an individual.
@nauseousqueasy Smile is one of the greatest works of music ever conceived, coming from a huge AC fan. i understand the comparison, their production is both immaculate.
@LouReedsBooks woahwoahwoah! The ending is so good! C'mon, how many movies end with a foodfight between a bunch of girls in a room in a field... hahah
this should be considered the new pink floyd or beatles this is so perfect and mysterious and just art I want this to be the soundtrac kin my head when im dying

I don't understand the comparisons with Noah to Brian WIlson. Doesn't Brian Wilson blow a big dick? Noah doesn't blow any dick.
