I remeber this letterman show. It was right around the time DLR left the band and released the album with those cornball cover songs. Shortly after this, Hagar became the VH singer and the rest is history. VH and Hagar enjoyed the greatest successes in their careers and DLR who thought he carried the band pretty much withered away.
