Thanks, Tony! I used this video to first determine if this sounded like a solution I could use. Then, I used the proper terminology from the video to locate the cheapest kit around me. Then, the video came in handy again to supplement the weak [to a layman] instructions included on the bag. I figure you just saved me $300-$600. You rock for posting this, man. God bless ya.
@jlazer99 Many older homes have a GFCI circuit throughout the house. All GFCI'ed outlets (which are just standard outlets on this circuit) are then wired through this special GFCI breaker at the box. It's dumb, but it exists.
Nice video. I wasn't sure how on earth it was possible to hook up a nylon line to my new Whirlpool but now I see it needs that brass coupling piece you zoom in on at about 4:25 in the video! Thanks.
I don't know any plumber that would recommend yet alone teach people how to install one of these !!! This KIT is outright garbage ! Saddle valves fail, and fail ALOT !! Usually when you are away at the cottage, if you follow me ! Not to mention plastic supply line to a fridge ? really ?? This is one plumbing job you need to leave to a pro!! Solder in a mini ballvalve and run the line in Copper !
just my 2 cents on the saddle valve. The previous owners installed a saddle valve for the evaporative cooler. The water feed runs from the water heater, all the way up through the house and up onto the roof. In the winters I have just been able to close the valve and have no issue. WELL this year the saddle valve wasnt sealing all the way and water was in the water fed pipe during winter, needless to say it was a cold winter, pipe cracked, now im cleaning a mess in my attic.......1/2 my fault
I have to agree on the saddle fitting. Nothing but trouble. Very easy to install, but in the not to distant future you will have trouble. They are prohibited here as well. Take the time and install a proper shut-off; preferably a ball valve and you will be trouble free for years. Do it nice or do it twice.Have a good day.
Hey Big Tony. What code are you working under? Our code, the national standard, states saddle or piercing valves are prohibited. We need to use an actual shut off valve. Now that's not to say these valves aren't used, but they shouldn't be used by us, the licensed plumber. I also wouldn't recommend a homeowner to use these valves. How many of these valves have you come across that either are leaking or won't shut off?
@cdvoorhis - Did you fix the dispenser auger motor yet? If not let me know, I may be able to help with information. It may not be a bad motor even it it does not run. I have some suggestions if it still doesn't work.
did ANYONE else notice the normal outlet directly near the water lines!!!!!!!!!!! HELLLO!!!!! GFCI Outlets only and they shouldnt be that close to the water lines! Unless you want to be ZAPPED!....Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt
Saddle fittings are not permitted in both the UPC ant IPC, (nation wide plumbercrack). Those types of "valves" should never be depended on to turn off the water. Notice he didn't install that crap in his own home.
Trying to do this right now. Loews connected the back. I have trouble with the valve. I put the tiny metal piece into the tube and then I put one of those plastic little things on and a bolt. It keeps coming out of the valve and squirting water all over. What am I doing wrong. This is my first time doing this,
Hey Tony great video, this showed me alot. Only question I have is, the end you hook up to the fridge, do you have to add the nut, metal sleeve and a ferrell also before hooking to the fridge or is it already built up? Thanks, Josh
your a good plumber Big Tony, But I wouldnt use that shutoff fitting, id rather use a reg shut off. I think they r illeagle in mass anyways, but goos video
im not sure about other states, but i know those valves r illeagle in massachusetts. I have never used them before, but by the looks of it, I would never use that valve. Big Tony, looks like you are a good plumber, watched a couple vids

I noticed that under your sink right behind the water pipe you have a power plug. Think you might want to change that plug to a GFCI for your safety.
