  • It seems that, once one reaches adulthood, you immediately develop a taste for coffee and/or tea that you didn't have before. My whole family has become big fans of tea, in whatever way you want it (black, green, herbal, hot, cold, whatever). Naturally, I'm enjoying the heck out of this episode. :)

(Also- wow, I'd had no idea that you black tea leaves aren't toasted, like green tea leaves. Who knew?)

  • I appreciate the "hills of hype" remark. I made my first venture into David's Tea yesterday... they did have some beautiful teas, but listening to the clerk explain to a customer about "balancing your chi" by drinking "teas that the description appeals to you- because it contains antioxidants that you're missing" made me roll my eyes.

  • This video is interesting.

I'm watching this video because it's an assignment given by my teacher for my Essentials of Dining room class!

  • Some of the very best tea I've ever had was fresh tea in China. Fresh as in just picked off a tea plant from the garden. Very grassy and floral, but tasty.

My least favorite tea to date was probably green tea in a Japanese tea ceremony brewed with the "thick" method. Really strong, very tannic. Reminded me of chewing on grape skins, if you know what I mean.

  • Memo to the British: We really need to have an intervention for that dreadful concoction you call tea. I'll bring my Chinese friends with some oolong and a few electrodes for when you insist on putting milk in the cup.

  • loose leaf tea changed my life

  • Tenacious Tea Tinkering. I love alliteration :D

  • If you can find them, Stash and Yogi are really good brands of tea. Amazing blacks, greens, whites, Roobios, and herbal tisanes and blends.

  • I grow tons of herbs in my garden, namely chocolate mint, spearmint, and lemon grass. Mix those up with some chamomile from a spice shop and I've got my favorite blend: Sleepy Time. :D

  • the opening is the most adorable thing ever. I think that's his real daughter.

  • I have recently come to tea drinkage. I have discovered a fondness for Stash's Peppermint/Spearmint tea. Miny tea is yummy. I used to drink a bit of Irish Breakfast, but I have discovered Earl Grey is quite yummy. I think my blood will be mostly tannins now, as I've been drinking quite a bit of tea.

  • tea bags can be kept konger in the freezer sealed in an air tight container. We buy tea in extreme bulk around here.

  • I'm VERY dissapointed in Lipton! Their quality has really gone down the tubes. No offense to any Lipton fans. I just have pretty high standards.

But three of my favorite grocery store brands: Celestial Seasonings, Tazo, and Republic of Tea.

  • @missbeatrix1 Uncle lee's organic green tea is really good to, Brews a pure green and taste great.

  • @JISINSANE3

Thanks! I love green tea (pretty to look at, tasty, and good for ya!), so I'll have to try it...Can I find it at a regular grocery store, or is it mostly a specialty/healthy food store brand?

  • @missbeatrix1 Its bagged tea but sealed bags and I think it can be found easy. Depends on where you live. I suggest you check there website. Its the greenest green bagged tea I ever had. Very good flavor and greener than alot of loose leaf teas I had.

  • @JISINSANE3

Thanks again! I'll check it out! :D

  • @missbeatrix1 I tried green tea. It was being given for free at a gallery opening. In spite of three attempts to drink it, it only made me gag. Subsequent tastings of genuine green have not changed my mind or my tastebuds. GAHHHHH! :O~~~~

  • "Tazo tea ...Contains some of the finest teas on planet earth."

Oh Alton you're a funny man.

That comment made me sound like a huge tea snob. -_-

  • Yay for portland, oregon!

  • Holy shit!

    Viewmaster!

    Total nostalgia!

  • Tenacious tea tinkering!

    I love Alton's alliterative aptitude.

  • wow her daughter really grown from this episode and now

  • why's it so jerky? encoding fail?

  • Enjoying a cup of Twinings Irish Breakfast as we speak.

  • Very enlightening! I love the beginning with the tea party! Is that his daughter, or someone else? 'Cause his daughter has appeared on many a Good Eats episode.

  • @missbeatrix1 His daughter is only a toddler at the time this season was filmed. Check out the Honey episode. S4E8. Pantry Raid IV: Comb Alone. She is in that one. :D

  • @MoyraAngel

Oh. But it does look like something he would have her do in later years! But very cute nonetheless!

  • The oxygen thing doesn't make much sense to me. As you heat water, the gases dissolved in it leave, and at boiling temperatures they're gone.

  • Im drinking a cup of earl grey while watching this. Twinings loose leaf to be precise.

  • microwave made tea tastes funny compared to pot brewed and stewed tea...

  • @slasher667 Yes, you're right. I know. I've tried it before. Maybe the skewer prevents that?

  • LOL Igave thumbs up to you both BECUS ITS SO FUNNY YOU SAID what he said.

    LOLFASLFDkdsg

  • Bear called me GOOFY?!?!?!?!

  • Bear called me goofy

  • A small pot would suffice for brewing tea.

  • Tenacious Tea Tinkering

  • aww! i used to have that tea set when i was a kid <3

  • haha "bear called you goofy"

  • Mmm, I bet that tea warehouse smells really good!

  • Yes. The tea shop as well

  • what parts of china is oolong tea popular

  • in tyone

  • thanks!!

  • best episode of all time

  • I drank tea since I was a little baby. Then when I was 10 I stopped drinking tea for a while. But after seeing this episode I drink tea at least twice a day!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I remembered this episode and now I really want to learn more about tea and proper brewing techniques. I wish FoodNetwork would put up more on their website... or give you an option to watch online or something.

  • Just FYI, any tea made by the company named after Sir Thomas Lipton is all Orange Pekoe, despite the fact that it's in tea bags.

  • did u get paid from lipton to say that and ur lying cuse i got a box in the pantry all fannings and dust in the tea bag

  • no, but I marked myself as spam anyways

  • Oh yes, Liptonn TOTALLY pays people to comment on Youtube on their behalf

  • You people missed the point.

You can't trust a tea that says Orange Pekoe on it, because it's become a flavour.

Also, just because Lipton owns it, it doesn't mean it's crap

  • Alton Brown is just as yummy as his cooking creations.

  • Aww alton is sweet with kids. and ammusingz

  • yeah but.. bear call you goofy lol

  • That was funny...."From the mouths of babes"

  • why does this get cut off at the end?

  • because it is part 1 of 2

  • lol it's pretty obvious...please read the title next time.

  • he left out white tea!!!

  • White tea is just regular tea picked when the leaves are still small. Also, white tea wasn't popular or well known when this episode was made, so it makes sense that he wouldn't have mentioned it.

  • he should do a new ep with white tea cuz its sort of popular now. and also herbal teas. even tho theyre not really tea.

  • D00D hippies suck.

  • don't be a hater for the hippie.

  • note the plug for tazo

  • So this is LikeTheHat's channel picture video!

  • After watching True Brew a few days ago I was wondering what poor little tea drinker me should do. I apologise to Mr. Brown for doubting that he'd come up with something, and thank LTH for all their work!

  • so is that his kid? shes so cute!

  • bon bon

  • nvm.. i got confused with the girl (who is his duaghter) in episode "comb alone"

  • it is..

  • well his daughter is in a few episodes as a baby. this little girl kinda looks like him....

  • No... actress.

Check Wikipedia for "Good Eats" - lots of actors play family parts. :)

  • is that his daughter?
