What I’ve always found weird about this show is that Motley Crue’s sound was SO bad, but they weren’t playing badly at all, and the sound man was great; The Clash and Van Halen both sounded unbelievably good.
I don't think vince could hear himself. the mixers hadn't worked out all the kinks yet. they were 2nd on the bill.....................except for 5:30 lol
@denny5400 They didnt really suck a better word would be "loose" or "sloppy" i mean obviously the audience loved them and they put on a good show if it werent for vinces singing they wouldve been awesome
MAGIC.....Vinces Hair makes me shiver....I been bleaching my haoir Like that for 25 years...The entire piece is a time capsule....TOKE~~~ LARGETIME~~~ PPL~~
you know what. im gonna call up some people in california and hold the biggest hard rock heavy metal festival in history so the new shit techno hip hop pop bubblegum shit they play today would fucking die. and rock comes back
We need another US Fest...or at least a North American metalfest that has no problems running the gamut from glam/hair to trad to black and every thing in between
How funny...how people can find this 'fuckin amazing' and 'bad ass'...the only thing they had was attitude and costumes. Mick Mars could play, Tommy Lee could play, but that was about it. And I grew up listening to Crue!!
That was when rock bands were larger than life. Vince's mic syncs off (some problem with the wireless connection) but he keeps rocking on until the end.
Kings of Leon (some shitty new band) cancelled a show because their bassist got pooped on by a pigeon. How fucking pussy is that.
Im right in the middle of "the Herion Diaries" by Nikki Sixx and Im thinkin, Ive never looked up any US fest on UTube and its about time and WOW the memories this brings back since I was 23 at the the time and going to this all day event was the greatst thing ever in my young life and the line up was a metal heads dream, the only disappointment being Van Halen, who after a long drunken day in the sun made us wait 4ever and then they came out drunk and sounded like hell but the Crue killed it !!
why couldn't i have been at the very least a teenager when the US festival happened???? I was a 2nd grader when this festival was being broadcast on mtv...what i would do to be able to go back in time, but as an adult!!!!!!!!!!
I was there that hot ass weekend back in 83. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. The Scorpions were the best and Motley Crue were awesome too.
they had some mess ups but they rocked the fucking show, and it only lead to bigger things for them... they were also on some hardcore drugs n booze that day, read their book The Dirt itll talk bout vince drinking jack, and he had pills and a head bobbing up and down on his lap lol... i have all the best crue albums all i want is to goto a show and thanks to cruefest i know i have opportunites every year...
whatever van halen rocked the fuck out of this concert..so what dave forgot the lyrics for a second but if u where fucked up as him you probely would too
paulyhoke, I did. I already had Too Fast For Love by this time.
On this day: Quiet Riot had just gotten signed and the day before this, replace Glenn Fry on the bill. Motley's first Shout at the Devil performance, Jake Lee's (Ozzy's guitar player) first N.American performance, Judas Priest Defenders of the Faith Tour, Triumph's Allied Forces tour, Scorp's Love At First Sting tour, and Van Halen was recording 1984.
motley fuckin crue, i'm 19, missed their golden age but i love watchin these old videos these dudes are my heros i got to all their shows now and nobody rocks like they do it's good to see they're still livin it up playin shows for the new-agers hell yeah
well, nobody knew at all, but after this show, the band say it was like 'music changed forever after just them few songs'. They were a huge band after that and were the most enjoyed band on the festival despite how Van Halen and Ozzy were there.
I'm not much of a Crue fan anymore but I was then and I WAS THERE!!! I'm so proud! What a show, except for Van Halen, they were the worst band of the day! Too much alcohol!
Mick sounds great in this vid. Really thick Les Paul-Marshall tone. Tommy sounds really great too, even though he uses lots of tricks he never misses a beat. Great stuff. I won't comment on Vince.
Vince had Laryngitus this day, that keeps most singers out for at least 2 weeks. He never sounds his best live but this time hes kinda got a good reason... and I love Tommys drum sound too!
A lot of people say that Tommy is a terribly overrated drummer, but if there's one thing I can say about him is that he is an incredibly reliable and solid performer who gives a hundred percent every time... his power and precision never cease to amaze me.
couldnt agree more i play drums and he's my hero and everyone says u just wanna be like him cuz he did pam and im like thats good but listen 2 him drum
Here is the way you need to evaluate a musician: Would you want him to play in your band? Fuck yeah! He may not be as flashy as someone like Neil Peart, but he is as solid as a rock! It's too hard to find a consistent drummer these days.
Hmmm...ya got to admit "Looks that Kill" was a total cluster *&&#*#(#. I imagine though they were pissing themselves given the size of the crowd.
