I also dont understand FTM's who opress women/are rude to them etc so well done for mentioning it. Its funny you mentioned the hyper masculine acting when we come out but I actually went the other way which was confusing to people I had just come out to as I appeared to be acting more feminine! As for the word tranny I personally hate it and dont like hearing others using it however for example black people use the n word so why cant we use tranny? Did that make sense? Contradictory I know.
@CurtisFTM It's different because the T word is used to silence trans women specifically. Check out Kaia's video. The link is in the description. The N word is used to silence all black people. The T word is not used to silence all trans* people and is therefore not analogous.
This is so fucking good. Everything you're saying makes so much sense that it's hard to believe that this kind of statement is "shocking" or "an unusual point of view". Please keep preachin' it. You. Rule.
Best FtM video I've seen. This really spoke to me. I could relate to it more than anything else I've seen or read about gender anywhere. Thank you very much for making me not feel alone.
I don't identify with either gender and I fully agree with your argument about bullying.
I just started college, and haven't even disscussed anything with any of my new friends, so I've been having a pretty bad week. This video really helped pull up my mood.
This video is awesome. Some people have their head up their ass when it comes to their privilege and checking it. It's really cool that you called people out on their bullshit.
Wonderful video post, Ira. I'm not sure if you are familiar, but a few months ago, I came across the terms "transfeminine" and "transmasculine spectrum". I really gravitated toward the former, as I could never identify with "MTF", not just in terms of the suggested destination, but origin, as well. This is an issue, especially, for many trans* people who never identified (even complicatedly) with their assigned gender, unless you're going with the problematic logic of gender/sex as dichotomy.
@anyazelie thank you. i think those terms support gender binaries, and i'm not the biggest fan. i am trans and am a combination of masculine and feminine. ftm, for me, is similar to how i feel about transgender as a word. i don't id with ftm or transgender or trans-man. i do id with trans*, trans-guy, genderqueer, and queer though. when it comes to spectrums and umbrella terms, we don't have to id with all of the terms they encompass. on that same note ftm/mtf has their own issues.
@anyazelie i just think as long as we're not using blanket statements, it should be fine. i tried to make it clear here that not everyone identifies as ftm or as a trans man yet may identify within the umbrella.
You hit on a lot of key points that I feel many people don't take the time to think about.
As someone who as physically born female and understands societal pressures and stress toward the female gender, I think its' important to remember that experience, and keep in mind transitioning or not, it is always going to be part of me. I think it takes a real man to learn from that rather than abuse privilege.
It's not right in any case to treat another person as if they're lesser.
dude, every video you make at this point i just find myself nodding vigorously to... it's so nice to hear someone who feels the same way i do about gender policing
Firstly, I love you t-shirt and after watching this video I have definitely got to purchase myself one of them. Secondly, I couldn't agree more with you on so many of the points that you made. I believe that it's sad that we have this level of ignorance and this conflict going on in our own community. We're all striving for respect, how are the rest of the world suppose to respect us when we can't even respect one another in our own community. Finally, thank you for making this video! :]
Is that a red cup or a red bathtub or what...I am confused

@DreamingSilverfox let's also remember that nothing makes someone not a "real man" if he identifies as a man.
