Boy...them were the day.......I was 19....then now i am 45 brings back ole memories....love them times! I am glad I was growing up in the eighties! The 80's ruled! Miss em
@eddietheturdburglar What you don't relise is that this song was even back farther then tupac and biggie and it actually has meaning not like any of these shit songs now-adays, you think this song sucks because you listen to rap music that,"Sounds cool", and not rap music that has meaning, go listen to Lil-wayne kid
This song always reminds me of a tramp I seen way back in the 80's when this song was out! It was playing in the background as he walked past our touring van...I never forgot him poor sod!!
1986 was the actual release year - not 85! I was SUCH a fan!!! "We don't mean robbin, stealin or muggin - in fact don't take it seriously - we're only buggin" - that's the sh## right there!
Use to go Rollerskating to this song in the 80's in Chula Vista California and they played the shit out of this when it came out. Along with Whodini's Five minutes of funk and The Dream team's song Ladies and Gentlemen..Great music!
its funny, when this first came out, i actually memorized the lines, the first song that i actually memorized. And here it is, 30 years later and i still remember easily half of it.
Only New York rappers could use a song from a Bugs Bunny cartoon, a Sugar Crisp commercial and the theme from Green Acres in a rap song...Bug on Whistle!
i wish i could go back to the 80's. the air was cleaner. the sun shined brighter and every day was a good day. hip hop was a neverending trip to the amusement park. always some new shit was coming out. it had no limits. always a fresh new beat, always a fresh new style. this was the melody from green acres. and everyday someone looped a new beat. i remember the inspector gadget beat came along that doug fresh and slick rick used to blow up and become a household name.
I loved this classic hip hop back in the day, but regarding other comments was this really what people were rapping about on the streets of New York where hip hop came from? Or is it, as I suspect, that this kind of fun stuff was all that the record companies would touch so was all that people like me growing up in Britain ever heard?

What a great track this is..I hope the tramp digs it too if he's still alive, bless him!!! :-)
LOL. Highschool days. "in fact don't take us seriously, we're only buggin" Consequence w/Kanye and John Legend..Whatever You Want sampled from this cut.
Saw the video over the holidays when I was going through some old VCR tapes. Funny how, for some reason, taping FRIDAY NIGHT VIDEOS and the NIGHT TRACKS paid off in the end.
So glad to find and hear this! Brings back memories I was a sophomore and attended Crispus Attucks-yes it was a highschool when this came out. This was on WTLC when the played more music then all the cometating they do now. 80'S rap ...long live. OLD SKOOL is duh BOMB!
real hip hop here, i ms da 80's n 90's i am a black woman who not thinks but knows old school is the greatest 2 ever been made or played, this new bullshit crap hurts my feelings, i don't listen to the radio for the new raps, i only listen to radio for old school r & b n e way old school forever here, i am 36 love it.
The 80s was the best, we knew how to party and still do, I hear kids tell me now that they wish that they had grown up in the late 70s and 80s because when they listen to our stories, they are jealous of the fun that we had.............we are of the eternal Peter Pan era, we won't grow up or stop partying!
@CrystalRhae You are so right! I tell stories from my childhood about growing up in the eighties(i am 38) and i keep finding myself saying "it was a lot different time back then"...
@CrystalRhae TELL EM' AGAIN !, I'm 44 years old young at heart and enjoying everyday God gives me on this earth, i"ll slow down and grow old someday, maybe 20 years from now, MAYBE.
@CrystalRhae yea i tell my parents im jealous all the time...i LOVE all the music from the 70's and 80's!..that era had great music, cars...and it seems like just one hell of a time lol
Finally! Thanks for posting the version with DJ Silver Spinner scratching. The "official" video of this song doesn't have the scratching and that's a shame.
Good comparison, as both songs (Nothin Serious Just Buggin and Pee Wee's Dance) were pioneering hip hop tracks and paved the way for today's hip hop artists. Some of the others that I grew up with were from Grandmaster Flash, Newcleus, Twighlight 22, Kurtis Blow and Run DMC. I am so privledged to have been around for those grounbreaking times. I was a teen when those artists came out and I loved them! I turn 40 this year (2009) wow time flies!....and I still listen to this stuff.
i was 15 when i bought the 7" of this and played it fullbast through the summer, good times no rap violence just a more chilled era, exept the slaps i got from my mum, was worth it, ha,ha.
Just look @ their faces, this was what Rap was all about back in da days! Love, peace and Happiness! These niggas weren't even get paid 1/10th of what a Rapper gets for performing one show today, but they still had alot to smile about!
People.. Lets chill and show sum love. Stop tryin 2 outdo 1 another by claiming to b experts in rap / hip hop. There aint no such thing as shit music. Em, 50c, Run DMC etc etc. It comes down to personal preference. In 20 years time the ones who appreciate EM, 50, Dizzy etc today will be doing what all us Whistle fans is doing right now. Taking a trip back in time a remembering the 'good ol days'Just like my Dad does when he hears Bill Haley and Jerry Lee lewis!!! LOL.
So to talk some SLANG I say this to you, "suck MY dick!", bitch-ass nigga. Maybe you understand that, little boy.
And to let you know, I am female. The "suck my dick" reference is to help you understand better. I know you spend many nights riding the dicks of Lil Wayne and others. Besides, I know your education level is probably half your dick size (2nd grade).
No ass. Slang is "yo, waasup, chill, coolout, etc." Ignorance (ebonics) is "dem, da, dis, kno, doe, etc" You need to go back to school, inbred, and also read about how blacks were criticized by whites by the way they spoke bad english. Maybe you never saw Buckwheat, Hattie McDaniel, Rochester, etc. But your country, collard green, powdered donut lip-looking incest breeded ass wouldnt understand nor comprehend. Besides, my proper English ass still gets street cred among the homies and homegirls!
Great song I remeber this from years ago,you dont get real rappers anymore like this, I reemeber years aho people used to walk with ghetto blasters on there shoulders with baseball caps lilstening to great rap like this...even that doesnt happen anymore not in the UK anyway..I wish I had all the versions of this..its just so good..does anyone know how many versions there was?
Tunage!!! Whistle, Doug E Fresh, The Real Roxanne, UTFO, etc etc. Integral palyers in the history of Rap, Hip hop. Personal preference is what it is. I don't proclaim to be an expert. I just ike what i like. I like this shit. It takes me back to the days of BMX's with Hitachi 3D Super Woofer's (rememebr them!?) strapped to the handlebars trawling the streets fo York with my mates. Kappa Ski jackets and Tachini sweatshirts. Now isn't that what music is really about? Creating Happy memories!!!!
In the college shuttle the driver always had on this rap station. Of the last day, this song was played, and it was the only song from that station that I liked. :-)
rapping a tong twister now that takes skill, all the so called rappers of today take note !

Lick me dry, ass!
