We used this to leave my Dad's funeral by just this month - January 2012. He used to be mistaken, in his younger days, for Eric Morecambe but I remember him chortling happily to them when they were on TV with me trying to convince my boys that it wasn't grandad on the telly!
:) What a cheerful song for a cold winter evening....it makes me think of summer on the beach in Australia...I don't really know who these guys are...but I like it.
@ceciliawyu Quite simply the greatest comedy duo in the history of British TV. Eric died in 1984, Ernie in 1999, but material like the eccentric performance of Grieg's piano concerto with Andre Previn still raises laughs, and that sketch is now over 40 years old.
@cbak12sg Thanks. They are a little before my time but I like most of the comedians I see when I go to Edinburgh festival..I will check out this Grieg's piano concerto suggestion....have fun!
me and my mate sang this (and did the dance) on the way home from school, we even had people joining in! Shows how much love there still is for Eric and Ernie :D x
This song played at my grandads funeral a few weeks ago. He was a great, great man, and a great Morcambe and Wise fan. This brings me a tear and happiness at the same time.
Fabulous! And anyone who likes the song should take a look at The Jive Aces great new version (sort of Eric & Ernie meet Louis Prima!) on youtube! Just search for Jive Aces Bring Me Sunshine.
Victoria Woods tribute to "Eric and Ernie" has just been on the BBC. Just glad someone decided show their rise to fame something which is now sadly lacking all we have is The X Factor (yawn) and Britains Got talent (an even bigger yawn) M &W had to work for years to hone their act. Would Simon Cowell have told them they did not have talent! Thanks for posting this I'm a Shrewsbury Town Fan and am planning to come to Morecambe to see Erics statue this summer
I wish they'd show some of the regular M and W shows from the 70s again, instead of just the Christmas specials. Eric, Ernie and Eddie Braben were turning out quality comedy week after week, not just at Christmas, so we should get a chance to laugh at those shows as well.

World's Greatest Comedy Duo of all time. Loved these two guys and was brought up with them in 1960's, 70's, 80's. Their top show and possibly the biggest tv audience of them all, 35 million, Christmas Special 1973. I still laugh now when the shows are repeated. It sadly ended when Eric fell on his head in 1984, Ernie left us in 1999. They were fab, we will never see there likes again. Here's to you Eric and Ernie, sadly missed, but not forgotten.
Played this at my grandad's funeral... He used to build the sets for them, he was who this song was written for i think, he was always smiling and everyone was his best friend...
I think of them evry christmas. they wernt around wen i was a kid but i still feel sad. must feel reali horrible growing up wiv them n then they gone... im so sad they gone n i didnt even grow up watchin em! they just heart warming xx
i did grow up watching these guys, and if you didn't and feel how you do, you can just imagine how my heart breaks, they were the heart of soul of England
I just love Eric and Ern. They were the ultimate proof that you don't need to swear every 5 seconds to get a laugh. And it is still funny 30 years on. Long live Morecambe and Wise!
Because Im a Morecambe FC fan and we play this before every home game - he LOVED morecambe and the club itself, and would have been delighted with the clubs rise into the football league, nothing to stop you uploading your Luton Town version haha ;)
as you say, eric was luton, but watching this devestates me, my whole life eric and ernie were part of it, so sad that they are gone, so many tears in my eyes for these loveable guys
why is there pics of morecambe fc most people no that luton town was his true club thats why he became the chairman of luton town fc and thats why in some of the comedy sketches he did it involved somthing to do with luton. great song tho anywayz lol
@rignall92 the clue is in the name, his real name was eric bartholemew but it has changed to eric MORECAMBE so if he was so into luton, why didn't he change it to eric luton?
@rignall92 Because he lived in Harpenden which is quite near Luton, and because he was such a massive football fan in general, he started going to Luton as it was then his local club. And when you start going to a team's matches regularly, even if you're not from the area, you kind of get caught in the atmosphere and the routine and become part of them. All credit to him, he supported them when they were shit, if he was alive now he'd still be supporting them even now they're shit again.
It's a lovely tribute, but this is the EMI LP version (re-recorded) rather than the much more raw arrangement at the end of each television show. Somewhat neutered musically - too much glockenspiel! Thank you nonetheless; they were peerless.

Am i wrong in thinking Eric & Ernie were more of an English tradition rather than a "British" phenominon?
