they count to four because the song's counts are in fours. It's to get everyone in the same spot, so no one is off at all.

Something like that.. I know exactly what I'm trying to say but I can't remember the terms.

Like, some songs have three counts. Songs either have three or four (I think they can also have two... but I'm not sure). And some are faster and some are slower, it depends on the song. but all it really is is to get everyone in the same spot.
