Yeah I failed to read the paragraph under the video about the song. At least in my old age I still have some memory left,,,thanks I love the tune by the way..
GARY MILLS, (I wonder if he is any relation ) LOOK FOR A STAR. WE USED TO CALL HIM MILLS BOMB ?. ( a Mills Bomb was used in the 2nd world war ) colindaleradiosutch ( bit more useless information ) THE SONG AND SINGER ARE GOOD.
'Look for a Star' was very effective during the circus sequences in 'Circus of Horrors'. Of its time but still a very good story - they used a real circus for those scenes (the famous BIlly Smart's, who staged Christmas and Easter circuses on BBC Tv in the 1970s) . This song was written (or at least co-written)by Tony Hatch and was a UK hit in 1960 as we've seen, not long after TH had finished national service. Still a nice song and standing the test of time. Enjoy!
I heard the Billy Vaughn version back in the 60s in Japan. I didn't know there were four versions at the same time in 1960. It's sometimes educational to watch YouTube! I can learn pop music history! I listened to all four versions, and I like them all! Thanks TheLimePopsicle for your description!
@elisa412 Yes he is still around. I saw him in our local where he was chatting about his early life. He was with some friends and looked to be enjoying his holiday here.
have never seen the movie...but i suddenly 10 years old again after listening to this...wasnt topteen baby on the other side of this originally...great songs.amd lovely singer too...thanks for the memories
This song has been playing over and over again in my mind all day long. That's because I watched Circus of Horrors last night on TCM. It's a great song&great movie!!
@redsnapper1959 It's all right, a lot of people forget to read the descriptions. You meant well of course, and I love to read all comments. I only mentioned it because I spend a lot of time writing descriptions and trying to make them interesting and infomative!
The movie was regularly played on our local TV station during the 1970s; usually on Saturday afternoons in the mid-west. Haven't seen it since that time. Great song. 10+ stars!
You know Tom, this record is RARE one in Hong Kong, dont know why ,not many people got it, I dont have it as well, managed to get a pirate copy only (from taiwan), its scrappy....this one sound excellent...
me recuerda el 3 año de secundaria el cine rodrigues de la cd de monterrey donde en mexico se llama la pelicula el fantasma del circo un saludo desde matamoros tamaulipas mexicoñ
Yep, the early 60s were vastly different than the later part of the decade. People who weren't around, think only of "hippies" and "psychedelic music, mushrooms, and marijuana!" NOT TRUE!
That's very true because 1960 was actually a continuation or an extention of the 50's! Nothing really changed at all that year from 1959, Ike Eisenhower was still president until JFK was inaugurated in 1961, and cars and music were also still basically the same. Actually "hippies" were still unheard of back then, instead there were just the
"Beatniks" that were around in the 50's. The only known drug back then(in the 50's) was heroin, which was used by the singer Dion DiMucci then.
Too true, 'The Swinging Sixties' meant great pop music, great fashion and lots of new clubs opening everywhere - not the 'swinging couples (wife swapping) ' that many people - who probably weren't there at the time - seem to to think it was. I cannot regret for one minute being the age I am, because I lived through such a great era :D
Spectacular Towering Terror! One man's lust...made men into beasts, stripped women of their souls! For ever stranger thrills...he turned the greatest show on earth into a...Circus of Horrors! Can't listen to this beautiful theme song without quivering. Great upload!

THE DEFINING SONG FROM THE BRITISH HORROR FILM ''CIRCUS OF HORRORS'' [1960].

Not to be confused with the almost identical version by Garry MILES that charted in the US alongside this version!

Look for a Star was so appropriate for the movie "Circus of Horrows", Gary Mills brought out the best rendition.

If one song sums up the pre beatles era its this one.
rarebutgreat 2 years ago 4
That particular era is a lot more diverse than "historians" make it out to be, and it gave birth to some of the best pop music ever recorded.

@tbear4pa Yep! Although, I hadn't heard that about Dion; but it was certainly well know about drummer, Gene Krupa, who eventually kicked the habit.
