My battery got less than 25% in 6 hrs today. (it displayed a please charge message). I had GPS and wifi on. and Weather bug using Background data. I did maybe 20 emails back and forth(mayb a lil more) and bit over 30 txts back n forth. some music and light surfing. And 7.5 min of talking i believe. Gonna try turning off GPS, and if its still not better i'll turn off background data, also.
@brownhandz So now I have a big problem. I'm dangerously close to buying the Epic, or Evo. What it comes down to for me is battery life. I read several reviews, and a few customer reviews. People are saying that they get around 5 hours of use out if it a day, with using internet for 1-2 hours. They are saying that the battery was horrible and the Evo had way more. Now consider, I'm hearing these battery problems from around 20 different sources. So, why are your results so different?
@uriarte411 i have had the phone when it came out and i payed the full price for it. im telling you straight up that i get up at 5 use my phone to call, internet, little bit of apps, and boom there goes 80% of my battery by 1pm. i was like WTF so now i have my epic and super happy with it. personal experience.
Today 10/15/2010(a month later) I decided to let the phone go today without charging it and with minimum usage i got to 13 hours with 35% battery life let to go still.
- I didn't talk much maybe 45 mins or so
- watched some youtube vids 30 mins
- facebook 15 mins
- web surfing 30 mins
- GPS and 4G OFF
- played some games 15 mins
- checked 40+ emails
- used WiFi and bluetooth all day on
13 hours later and still have 35% left. I was able to talk for 25+ minutes with the last 6% in the video.
@brownhandz Please reply, I want to get this phone but the battery life i guess is bad on reviews, Should i get the HTC Evo Shift 4g or the Samsung Epic? And on a scale 1-10 how good is the battery? Thanks
I just bought my epic 2 weeks ago. I love the phone and all its features, but the battery life is horrible. It goes completely dead in 5 hours with minimal usage. All apps closed down, power save mode, no live wallpaper, and about 15 minutes of talk time. Sounds like my phone is defective??
@Jammy3782 it could just be a defective battery, i would check with sprint, there is no reason for the battery to go completely dead in 5 hours with minimal usage. If you are using it non-stop with 3+ hours phone calls all day, then I can see that being a possibility. i do try to give mine a mid day charge to be on the safe side though.. good luck with it.
@brownhandz Li-ion batteries (the cell phone standard battery) do not require conditioning. Older rechargeables from 2004ish and earlier would have required conditioning.
is it important the very first time u charge it? b/c as usual sprint took the phone out the box and turned it on and tried showing me crap i would wanna look at later. so than on my ride back to home i charged it for a little than disconnected it and recharged til i got home. idk if this why it takes forever to fully charge or its just the way it is? any advice/help would be much appreciated. nice break down btw
My battery life for the epic is terrible. my cell standby and idle are way to high. are you using touchwiz? your homescreen looks different, and it also doesnt appear to be launcher pro
@droptheworld you may want to look at phandroid. There's a software bug involving the 3G radio which causes a lot of drain from signal searching. You'll know if this is happening to you if your "Time Without Service Stat" is very high (50%). Look at phandroid for more on this. There's an airplane mode toggle fix you can try. It worked for me.

@knoxknight I did the airplane toggle mode and also shut off the background syncing data, that seemed to help a lot too. My charge time is quicker now too. Seems that battery has to break in just a bit before it gets cooking. But now, I get about a day worth of charge. 9 am to 10pm, still not great , but it's been improving.
@droptheworld my battery life is probably as bad as yours.
with all that stuff on, i'd be lucky if my phone lasted me 5 hours.
Then again, I haven't down a calibration charge yet and im testing the battery now after closing all but 2 services. so far it seems to be an average of 8% an hour, which is still pretty bad. (this is it just on sleep mode)
good video, thats a descent amount of battery life considering you had almost everything on, I have the evo, and try to keep everything off to expand my battery life, do you think its worth it to sell the evo and get the epic? hows voice quality?
@VerbalGenius09 i haven't used the EVO, so it would be hard to say. With that being said I guess the Super Amoled screen is supposed to consume less power than the EVO's screen, one of the reasons for that is there is no power used to display black(and the screen displays 16million colors opposed to the EVO's 65thousand). The EPIC doesn't have froyo (android 2.2) yet. also the UI between Samsung and HTC is different. The Epic is a great phone for me so far I have no major complaints.
a very helpful video bu im looking for someone to do a video on battery life for heavy music listeners i listen to music for a good portion of my 8hr shift just tryin to figure out whether or not i should take the usb cord to keep charged...getting my epic friday (payday... this is the last almost $300 i waste this year) its Tuesday night im going crazy every-time i pull out my blackberry
Thanks. That really doesn't seem all that bad. I usually charge my phone in the car on my commute, so I'm not all that concerned with the battery on this phone, which I plan to pick up on Oct. 1st. Thanks for the battery review.
how do u minimize cell display? anyone please?

That test isn't very scientific. Try testing with better controls next time.

Do you need to let the battery discharge completely in order to make the battery last longer?
ladydye12 1 year ago
@ladydye12 that is a matter of debate, but IMO it should be fine without a complete discharge.. I'm no battery expert though.
