  • @clickidyclack this was ahead of its time

  • Melle Mel is a prophet,,, Serious, Listen to his rhymes, line for line,,,

  • The "Third Rail" scene was tragic. SMH!

  • Anybody know if Mellie Mel and Andre 3000 are related??

  • @Lonwashere I was about to say rap dudes couldn't get away with wearing those clothes now, but Andre 3000 is about the only one who could.

  • Real music, real rap

  • WHO NEEDS NOSTRADAMUS, WHEN YOU ALREADY HAD BEATSTREET!!!!

  • Wow I remember poppin' in the vhs tape in the vcr and recording this beat on my boombox by placing it next to the tv speaker..

  • Still A Serious Cracker, Even After Almost 30 Ys.

  • ?,Hiroshima, Vietnam, Leningrad, Iwugima, Okinawa, Korea, the Phillipines, devastation, ?, killing machine? Can someone fill in the blanks? All the lyrics posting on line are wrong and leave out these lines.

  • wow....rap really sucked back then!

  • @Dabeydoo62 Wow..really? You mean back when rap was all about getting out of the ghetto and warning people of the dangers of crack and how it destroys communities..compared to now, when all too many artists glorify drugs and sexism and violence? The fact is, there was rap back then that sucked, sure, but this doesn't. there's good rap now, too, and i'm pretty sure if you played this for someone like Mos Def he'd aknowledge Melle Mel as one of the greats.

  • @ZiddersRooFurry sure the subject matter is probably better...but when I say this sucks (and rap of the same period in general) I refer to the delivery....but it has evolved so........

  • @Dabeydoo62 I dunno, Melle Mel has always had some serious flow. I thought the song perfectly fit the subject matter of the movie. It was meant to honor the person they were throwing the celebration/rememberance for. It itself is a celebration of art and how it can transcend economic/social situations. It's also a warning to both present and future listeners. 'Cus the children of man control the land and the future of the world is in our hands' Too bad more of us didnt seem to listen

  • @ZiddersRooFurry word.

  • @Dabeydoo62 Your telling me Melle Mel's verse is wack??? are you serious??? like f'real?? may i ask you why if you do? in case you say delivery, with lyrics that conscious i wouldn't give a damn if you were lil b' that is dope! lol

  • i miss scratches in hip-hop

  • Been a while since i heard this. Back when rap was still new . . . and good . . . and clean . . . and uncorrupted by todays so-called 'artists' that basically took a shit all over a genre that gave them an opening to make something worth listening to. They blew it . . . big time. Artists of the past REALLY need to come back and show these shit rappers how it's done and done RIGHT

  • RAMONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

  • Dam, the power of words. One helluva sermon. Might as well be.

  • ..ich liebe diesen film!!!! Kult Kult Kult :D

  • 2 peopl;e need a labotomy......ha ha

  • Because the children of man inherit the land and the future of the world is in your hands !!!

  • I remember when this came out back in 1984.......... As Arlo mentioned, Melle Mel was eerily Prophetic !!! @02:50. I remember the feeling I got deep down inside me when I first heard this and still get that same feeling today. We cannot continue to be in denial about what's taking place around us. Just look around you !!! Are you ready ??? I can only PRAY that the youth of today look back on this and reflect because everything still holds true today !!! God Bless us ALL !!!

  • @TWAB707 Tell me about ....He just don't how dead on he was then .

  • @booniedigful Sorry! He don't know how dead on he was back then .Very ahead of his time as far as thinking .

  • Oh Yeah!! The real hip-hop is over here! For being spit in 1984, Melle Mel's verse is eerily prophetic. This is why I will forever love conscious hip-hop. One more thing- RAMON!!

  • god DAMN, i loved this movie. me and all my friends must have seen it 20 times the summer it came out

  • 4:08 her face is priceless

  • ERRRRRAHHHHHHH!

  • You see that footwork?

    Ey yo Grand Master-

    ..nice. 3:11

  • Melle mel verse is still the best thing I ever heard in rap

  • @ 0.06 is a dez tag over a seen throw up.

  • first images are from detroit? :)

  • this show that you dont need baggie pants and long t-shrts to be a rap star this is the real thing thumbs up

  • @petars22 Thumbs up.

  • @theInfamous3 HELLO! Double like button...thumbs and big toes up!

  • but it wouldn't be so gaY with it! the song is great!

  • @petars22 nuthin' wrong with baggy pants, but yup this is dope

  • 1 knucklehead voted thumbs down? I'd like to say they accidentally pressed the wrong thumb. But if they didn't, then you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself......eerrrRUFF.

  • RAMOOOOO! rrrrrrrAHH!

    .

    All right! Who wanna' BATTLE?

  • Back to the old days . Great rap song !!

  • "A fight for power, a nuclear shower , A people shout out in the darkest hour"...

That's pretty much the headlines for the last couple of months

  • The hip hop artist should listen to what old school was talking about and come up with a way to send their message. But I can't blame them for not doing it, because they live in a different era, and what we wrote about was what we saw. So, eventhough we will never have those type of lyrics from these artist, they can atleast end a song by saying,"PEACE"

  • The Scratching in this song is ORGASMIC ! ..

  • mel ripped that shit!!20+ years old,and the lyrics are still so relevent...peace

  • "throw your hands in the air and wave em like you just dont care"

i was like 101% certain that lyric was gonna come up at some point ...that lyric is a common copy paste even today

nice childhood memories from this movie..even if i dont listen to rap

    peace!

  • this is hip hop reaching at its best!!

  • @ 1:50 before she became Det. Gina Calabrese of OCB / "Miami Vice".

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • I SEE THIS MOVIE 100 TIMES

  • @Peterscoop- I can dig that. Me personally, I don't dislike or hate on rappers or artist, I just get tired of hearing the same thing being said in 46 different songs by 46 different rappers ya dig? But I will listen to damn near anything that's got a nice beat and lyrics to it.

  • racket

  • RAMON!!!!!

  • Throw Back holla

  • oh yewa yea

  • oh my god this is a classic!!!!!!

i had this shit on DVD but i lost it

  • Bad Boy Track... STILL sends tingles up me spine when I hear it start... ULTRAA Tough Lyrics too... BraaaP!!!

  • One of the best tracks ever laid down! Props to the Architects!

  • @Peterscoop- The only thing I have been trying to understand is... and correct me if I'm wrong: you ain't diggin this music right?... So why in the heck are you even on this post playboy? I mean, you control your limbs, you have total control over your fingers.... What made you type in or click on if you hate old school rap?

  • @india3699 iam diggin the music i am not digging the fucking faggots that come to every vieo and always say the same shit "ooh soulja boi is gay todays music is so crap this was the best and realest music blablabla" FUCK YOU THIS WAS ONLKY THEBEGINNING YOU FUCKIN FAGGOTS IM SICK AND TIRED OF YOU FUCKIN GRANDMA NIGGAS AND WIGGAS

  • @peterscoop you sound like your really stressed out! And just because people say that "soulja boy is gay and todays music is crap" why would you get all stressed out about it! Bro, this is youtube. And just like you called everyone that said "today's music is crap" GRANDMA NIGGAS AND WIGGAS, just makes you look just as guilty! People have their own opinions, and your not gonna stop people from saying what they feel! All you did is made yourself a target to responses to get you more stressed out!

  • @peterscoop and yo, I'm trying to hate on you because I listen to all types of Hip-Hop becuase of what I'm involved in. Anything that sounds good, I will play. I listen to Grandmaster Flash and other old skool artists, and in the same sense, I'll listen to soulja boy and other new music from today. Hip Hop music always changes, and whether you know it or not, it's changing again. WHen old ideas get played out, it's time for something new.

  • @RJBbass2000 ye ai was stressed, i shouldnt take youtube comments so serious. We are similar cause on my playlist i have old, and new, true school, new shcool, gangsta rap , whatever i vibe to i listen to, all kinds of rap and other types of msic too, i guess its also because what i do. or i do what i do cause i can listen to all kinds of music, that is why i hate SO MUCH on people who say fuck XXX this is the ONLY real rap... this type of comment is worse than mine.

  • @peterscoop Rap music comes in so many forms these days it's even hard for me to keep up,ha,ha! I amdmit I'm an old head, but I listen to everything that sounds good. I listen to the lyrics first, and then I play it again to feel the bass and beats hit! Like I said, hip hop is evolving with every passing day, year, month, and year!

  • @india3699 iam digging this but i look at it with a smile. you cant compare this to how for example raekwon or tupac rhymes, or what beats dr dre makes... its a good listen and i respect this but i mock people who say this is gay and this is not, because i was around and this is only how it shoul dbe.. that is how fuckin parents talk when their kids listen to new stuff.. its pathetic to write lil gayne blablabla etc or fuck g unit because this or that..

  • Everybody take it easy ... just chill and enjoy the music of Grand Master Melle Mel - accoording to me - he is possibly the best rappers - old or new does not matter - just listen to what he is rappin and enjoy.

  • @Peterscoop- Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but also, you look at these interviews of most hip hop artist (and I don't use "artist" loosely), they pay homage to all these Originals who paved the way for Wayne, Jay-Z, Common etc. You don't have to like them, but its these "old a** raggedy" people who made hip hop, who made it for Wayne, Bun B, OutKast etc, ya dig.

  • @india3699 of course you are right, i dont deny it that someone paved the way, i listen to both new and old rap music.

  • i knew ill come to such old ass raggedy video and ilol find some faggots saying how they miss shit and how wack lil wayne is lol you motherfuckers are so predictable

  • @peterscoop

It is predictable because it is true. So much of what 'rap' has become, and those who perform it can't hold a candle to what it once was.

  • @jmx1900 hahahaha a-b-c-d-e-f-g is how this sounds hahaha you people are pathetic as ever hating on young people dancing to old music you are same as every old fuck ROFL claiming what you liked as akid is fine and what kids like now is not... pathetic

  • @peterscoop

It isn't young people dancing to old music I'm hating on, it's crappy music.

You can call my opinion or me pathetic if you want. I could care less, but not much less. Or I could point out that somebody calling another person pathetic via indirect medium for disagreeing with that person's point of view is a good indicator of that somebody's character, or lack thereof, but I won't. Name calling doesn't change the truth, never has, never will. Happy Christmas peterscoop.

  • @jmx1900 maybe this, maybe that, make up your gay ass mind

  • @peterscoop You sure go on about gays & faggots alot. You trying to hide something, besides shitty taste in music and latent homosexuality? If you are, try harder 'cause you ain't foolin' nobody but yourself.

And don't bother replying, I already know what you got to say. Someone disagrees with you and all you got is whine, whine, bitch, bitch, call'em gay, a faggot, a pussy, whatever.

You're a punk-ass bitch too stupid & scared to talk, argue or disagree like a man.

  • @jmx1900 why wouldnt i reply? i certainly am not trying to hide that i hate faggots thats for sure, and my opinionis like i said - fuck you old bitchin people new music is great same as some old stuff there are always good nad bad songs you faggots always say the same shit well fuck you and your old shit

  • @peterscoop Exactly the reply I expected-wah wah wah, teenage crybaby.

Go on, cry some more. You're still a whinny little puke and all you're hating and name calling doesn't change that.

And really, just come out of the closet and admit you're gay. You'll be a lot happier.

  • @peterscoop scoop my shit up

  • if they made a remake of this film - andre 3000 should play Grandmaster Melle Mel

  • @jestarman I don't think a good remake could be made. The despertion and decay of NYC during this time was a driving element behind the film, as well as breakdancing and hip-hop was still very much an undergraound scene. Any remake just wouldn't have the same combination of artistic honesty and cultural newness/innocence.

  • they were defintley the prhophets of rap ..full of wisdom.

  • I miss the good old Days. I was one of the Breakdancer at this time and we danced all night long. It was the Best Time ever! I wish the 80's coming back.

  • I keep coming back and back. That's how you know that good music stays in you. It's addicting..

  • this was the first rap song i ever memorized the lyrics to.

  • @mrwhatthepho2012

lol , what about "the message" .. 2 years earlier

  • @zer0nable I was 8 years old in '84 Beat street 1 was the first hip hop tape i ever owned.

  • Melle mel is a prophet

  • Andre 3000 reminds me of him for some reason. Can't put my finger on it

  • reeeaaal hip hop pimpin and im from the west but you cant help but give it up to this

  • Still the greatest Hip Hop movie of all time. Never beaten.

  • not 1 swear word and nothing but a positive message... the back up dancers as well.lol

  • 1 solo moron has no idea bout the real art in not jus hip hop in music period

  • ITS SAD HOW THIS WORLD HAS TURNED OUT! JUST LIKE MELLE MEL SAID 26YRS AGO! HE HAD GREAT VISION! NO ONE HAS A SOUL ANYMORE! EVERY ONE THAT I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH IS SOOO FAKE...IVE SEEN THEM ON FB AND IF YOU ARE NOT IN THERE CLICK AND HAVE ALLOT OF MONEY..THEY DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU!

  • @2pac4life888 AINT THAT THE TRUTH BROTHER! BUT THERE'S HOPE IN HIS SONG...PEACE BROTHER

  • " and don't be a slave to no computer " ....

  • @kurtcobayn Ironic is it? Auto-tune sure is destroying hip-hop.

  • @kurtcobayn Funny, because all along I thought the line went, "And don't be afraid to know computers"

  • @elsongs exactly

  • @kurtcobayn because they'll strip you of your identity on googOSHIIIII

  • Check out the flaming burp on 2:48!

  • @WhoIsBaz I know it and love it, this is real hiphop. If kids want to bore themselves stupid with the new crap then let them. Wicked movie.

  • @maccagrabme im 15 kid and i know this is real hip hop man ... and i know du new stuff aint bro , i wahced this with my dad ages ago fking loved it .

  • A newspaper burns in the sand, And the headlines say.. Man destroy's Man...

    That lyric says it all!!

  • im in.makes me[\eager o[\O ]\

  • I always loved the lyrics to this. Still irrelevant to this day!! The message to this song is deep! I'm so glad that I came up during this time when HIP-HOP was still HIP-HOP....and not just RAP & money!!
