After 9 years did I master the pole and it is anything but easy. I defy anyone who thinks so to try one move. And you will fail miserably. Pole strip tease places the emphasis on tease, pole fitness is more hobbyist and places emphasis on a good workout. Pole dance art places emphasis on performance art irrespective of 'tease' and pole sport is more about strength and technique. IMHO, none is better or worse, they all have value and different target markets.
From a dude's perspective, I don't see much difference between this type of activity and, say, gymnastic floor exercises, or, more closely related, the pommel horse.

I used to. A friend of mine started at one of the clubs in town and asked if I'd go for a bit so she'd know that at least one person was cheering for her. After that I'd just go because I loved the shows. It was a lot of fun. I got asked a lot when I was gonna start, but here if you're a stripper you're a prostitute, and I wasn't in for that whole scene.
I've had two kids since then, and have been doing the mom thing. I don't get out much any more. But it's a healthier lifestyle, so it's good.

Some great dancing in there. People should not confuse that some strippers might pole dance but that doesn't make pole dancers strippers. That is why there are TWO names (strippers, pole dancers) because they are two different things. Pole dancing might have started in clubs but it taking the world as a fun way to workout. Those girls have great abs and biceps!

I'd love to see some of the girls at this show come to my home town.
If the local girls could see them, they'd probably never set foot on stage again.
It would be nice to see them humbled, they seem to think they're made of gold, and come with a bucket of chicken too. Like they've got a candy flavoured snatch or something.

I used to. A friend of mine started at one of the clubs in town and asked if I'd go for a bit so she'd know that at least one person was cheering for her. After that I'd just go because I loved the shows. It was a lot of fun. I got asked a lot when I was gonna start, but here if you're a stripper you're a prostitute, and I wasn't in for that whole scene.
I've had two kids since then, and have been doing the mom thing. I don't get out much any more. But it's a healthier lifestyle, so it's good.

Funny, I've been doing this 'sport' (and it is trust me!) for over 2yrs now, and through all my classes none of the girls I know strip or get money from pole dancing.
Maybe if you browse a few more links you will understand the difference between strippers, lap dancers and pole dancers.
Pole dancing is like gynastics on a pole, even guys do it (check out BadAzz) it is becoming a big sport these days and takes amazing strength and control to look good and graceful like this vid!

The original is the piece "O Fortuna" which is in the complete piece Carmina Burana and the composer is Carl Orff- there are many, many variations, remixes, modern renditions, etc. The lyrics are medieval German poetry sung by monks.

from what I've read, generally on technical difficulty, dance and presentation and originallity. Some federations give extera points for costumes.
You are not aloud to compete nude or partially nude. And most ask that your music not have innapropriate lyrics.

The song is actually Carmina Burana, O Fortuna is just the first section of the song. It was correctly identified as being by Carl Orff though. Try looking for it that way. It is possible that this is not an actual available remix and that the dancer mixed it herself or had someone do it for her, as opposed to a commercially available option.

The Carmina Burana is a 1936 song cycle that premiered in 1936 Germany. O Fortuna is the opening and closing number. I trust you can tell that the music weirdly anticipates disco and techno. Ray Manzarek of the Doors covered the song 30 years ago. The lyrics are 800 years old, and remain timely.

I am eventually going to get a pole again - I miss it!!. I started dancing at age 38 and had to stop at 40 because I wasn't making $ dancing. I'm 45 now. Say what you want, uptight assholes - jealousy will eat you alive, pole dancing is one of the best workouts you can get and can do it in the privacy of your own home. The only area that doesn't get built up is the hamstring area. Would have to work extra in that area for full fitness!

It's true. No one calls the Cirque performers prostitutes, and they do virtually the same thing on a ribbon. It is a beautiful art, if you can look past it's sexual tones. I'd love to have the physical strength and muscle control to do it myself. Don't let the dancers and performers that act like prostitutes put a bad stigma on the ones that do it for the art or to make ends meet.
