This actually is hard mode. Enemies do die in two hits in the first level if you do a regular hit, then a power hit like this guy is doing.

I think this was the beginning of Sega downfall... This wasn´t a bad game, but it wasn´t as good as it should (and must) be. After this, Sega destroyed almost all its classics, one by one!

I was never very impressed with this game. The sprite graphics and animation are terrible and the collision detection is pretty bad as well. The backgrounds were ok, if a little blocky and the path choice was a great idea, but the new characters are rubbish and so it falls flat on it's face and seems like a rushed job. If the ideas had been in Golden Axe 2 it would have made it a superb game but this just seems rushed!

@ckokpenno Nope, just bad quality :P Using FRAPS would've prevented these quality issues. Here's how it's done if you want to capture Genesis games:

1. Buy FRAPS or pirate it via torrent (it's an awesome software, but I can't imagine myself paying money to be able to upload better quality Let's Play videos to YouTube :P)

2. Use an emulator of your choice for playing. Good choices are (Kega) Fusion, Gens, probably Ages and DGen too. zophar.net is THE site for emulators.

@apina667 3. The emulator's keyboard shortcuts might conflict with the default ones in FRAPS.

Having e.g. Alt+F12 as "Video Capture Hotkey" in FRAPS's "Movies" tab instead of plain F12 is quite likely not to conflict with anything.

The default settings in that tab are otherwise OK, except for YouTube, you'll want to use 30 fps frame rate and "Lock framerate". This will make also the game run at 30 FPS, instead of just the capture. It should work well unchecked in theory, but

4. Start playing, toggle fullscreen and press the "Video Capture Hotkey". When you exit fullscreen, the capture will end automatically. Then just upload the video in the capture folder into YouTube.

There's an option for Record Win7 audio. This means you'll be able to capture audio with Windows 7 without a sound card with a "What U Hear"-recording option (or something similar).

Of course one workaround is to get a 3,5" male-to-male stereo audio cable and connect your Line Out/Headphone Out to your Line In. You'll need to disable Line In playback from e.g. Windows mixer beforehand to eliminate feedback.

I remember that the original Sega Cartridge was not so easy to play like you do, it was much harder. Now Im playing the game in PS3 with Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection and its much difficult too like the original not like the way you do.

Why does this game look worse than Golden Axe 1? And the sounds are worse too. The magic animation is cheesy. All you have to do is that roundhouse kick or whatever and the enemy dies easily.

I wouldn't have believed this was a Golden Axe game if it wasn't labeled as such.

@1982markjm I finished this game in hard mode every day after school when I was a kid. I literally knew every spawn point in the game, and each and every wave of enemies. I never spammed a single attack, that was boring as fuck. I always try to make "beautiful" play, tossing enemies around, doing combined attacks or magics with my brother or my cousin or using special attacks.

And I had no problem with beating the game. I usually got B or A grade, and had 1-2 continues to spare at the end.

This is what the first Golden Axe should have been this sucks . I would say that Golden Axe 1 and 2 should have been 2 and 3 they had nice game play. Streets of Rage 3 was decent it was a little different than part 2 . Golden Axe 3 is like SVC choas CVS 1 and 2 were nice games and the third played and looked 7-10 years older than the fiest two games people.

GA2 isn't bad, it just feels like a partial remake of GA Genesis to me, disguised as a sequel. Plus it's not compatible with 6 button controllers (except the 6 button Arcade stick since it has a switch)

The Hawkman (boss) is playable, as are the pantherman and beastman. However any other characters you'll have to use the game genie and they are glitchy. I don't think you can play as (injured) Gilius Thunderhead the Dwarf, he's just there to give you your mission.

I have no clue as it's the only Mega Drive game I own. I have an original Genesis Model 1 (at my parent's house) and a Sega Nomad. I'm told the early MD games (made prior to 1992) will work with the GG and no code, but later games require a code. No idea what those codes are... no way I can test it. I watched a video recently that said a Genesis 3 can play Japanese MD games just fine with no modifications or GG though.

This character has a broken move (the kick) which does a lot of damage. Other chars have moves as powerful, but they are slower.

This wasnt a BAD game - the characters were interesting, they had individual special moves, there were more combos for each character and even team magic - sadly the game was let down by clunky gameplay, crappy sound and music.

Otherwise this could have been the best in the Golden Axe series
