Not every Kamikaze pilot was so dedicated: some chickened out; some couldn't find the target and returned to base, if they had enough fuel to make it back. One pilot was so furious with his commanding officer's suicide crap that he straffed the officer's headquarters after take off and then proceeded on with the mission.

PS Those last cup of sake ceremonies were all staged for the camera. Most of the pilots were bitter and downright ornery about the whole thing.
