  • if u were to say spraypaint the guitar white...but u wanted to preserve the bindings...u could simply tape over them...right? ... but how would u get the tape to line up with the binding?

  • @eerahman The best way to go about this would be to tape off the bindings as best you can (be careful pulling tape off after lacquering doesn't always leave an exacting line) and then pull the tape off when done with the color coats. You then can scrap to an exacting line with a razor blade using your fingers as a depth stop. Once done, clear coat to seal and finish.

  • @jaydog664 As for what it's for, it's dual purpose essentially. Most like it for the aesthetic attributes it lends an instrument, but it also serves to protect the more fragile end grain on guitars. However, this is usually only a legit reason on acoustics where the end grain on the top and backs is thinner and in more need of protection. No way binding will ever cover all the end grain on a solid-body.

  • @jaydog664 Watch the video, and you'll see that it's those pieces of wood that I'm installing around the perimeter of the guitar. Granted, it doesn't have to be out of wood, most production guitars use plastic, and back in the olden days you would even see ivory and true tortoise shell.

  • Thanks a lot for taking the time to do these guides! really nice of you. Good and informative as per usual!

Beautiful birdseye on that top too btw
