  • first goal scored by JP parise, zack parise's dad.

  • In Winnipeg the Russians showed they had depth, by introducing the kid line of Anisin, Lebedev and Bodunov, all 21 years old. Those kids hurt Canada real bad as they scored the last two goals, including the tying goal with less than 2 minutes to play.

  • team canada's goalies also played pretty lousy though. they really were letting in goals that should have been stopped.

  • PreacherofArrakeen judging by your comments you in general do not understand hockey.

  • Dangling is individualistic.

    Playmaking is considerably team/teammate-oriented.

  • I think that, if the Canadian team had been conditioning and playing together all year round like the Soviets, and had had Orr and Hull, it wouldn't have been so close.

I do remember, though, that every time the Soviets got puck control, I got very nervous... hahahaha. It was a pleasure to watch their playmaking, though. It is too bad that they were dirty players, in a sneaky way. Hockey should be about playmaking, skating, etc, not spearing and other dirty tricks behind the ref's back.

  • Where did you see dirty playing at USSR`s game? Are you blind?

  • Come on...no one team was more dirty than Canada. Clark was the first one.

  • What are you talking about? There was a championship in the USSR, and ALL YEAR ROUND the Soviets were playing in different clubs. The Soviets didn't play 'dirty', because the Soviet hockey wasn't about fighting at all - all this elements of show (dirty tricks and fighting) come from NHL... One of the greatest Russian commentators, when commenting the series, was so shocked to see the Canadians push the Soviet that said: "This is not a kind of hockey we need"...

  • @Sheik1388

This is not a kind of hockey we need"...

    you're right

  • @ybanzen - sorry, this is what I like about hockey. This is the only sport where if a referee misses a call; say on a really bad slash, elbow etc.; the players on the ice have a chance to call that offender to task, in an up front and uncowardly way - a face to face fight. Besides body checking is part of hockey; it wouldn't be ice hockey! what a stupid comment for them to say,"This is not the kind of hockey we need"

  • 0:26 - just take a look at the way the Canadian pushes the Soviet into the wall. This look ok nowadays, but in the 1970-s nobody played this way in the USSR. So You're so unfair, saying the Soviet were playing "dirty".. Thet didn't even have the idea of what "playing dirty" is...

1:50 - if it wasn't a dirty in a sneaky way, that what was it? (2:09 in the replay).

  • @Sheik1388 - what they mean by "dirty" are all the illegal stickwork(spearing, slashing), kicking, elbows etc. that the Russians were doing. Hockey is a man's sport; if you play dirty; you better be able to back it up by fighting or defending yourself when you are called upon to "man-up". If you throw an elbow, or spear/slash a guy then expect to be in a scrap; you can't do this dirty stuff and act like a coward.

  • Haha dirty ? This coming from a Canadian, very funny.

  • soviets had no play offs practice... and hockey was the second play after football.....shortly it was game and not life as for canadiens

  • One thing I noticed is that the russians were the better passers and may have been better with slap shots but they were neutralized by Canada's checking defensiviley and offensively cananda had the better one on one play makers

  • Canada did not be better play makers maybe a they got a little bit good during the summit series because the russian scouts that where in canada before the series had happened said that canadian players relied on individuelism the soviets where the play makers great passing abilities. Team canada really started to play like a team in moscow and when they did they got goals scored on tretiak.

  • Playmaking is INdividualism. I dont know what language you speak or how its translated there but, in english thats what it means. The russians had a very tight coordinated system that gave them the ability to win and yes the players were great as well

  • playmaking is not individualism. individualism is meaning that the players do it all them self thats why its called individual. And play making involves the team they make plays passing the puck and even springing someone on the break away thats an example of making a play.

  • although they did started a little bit i mean i believe it was in this game where someone did a pass ahead to henderson and scored but before this series they basically did every thing by them self.

  • The first hockey game I ever attended was at the Winnipeg Arena; just four years after this game was played.

It was also a memorable international exhibition game....between the Jets and Czechoslavakia!

  • I'm from the peg!

  • as you can see, they don't do for example any "after tackles"

  • According to Kharlamov, the canadiens played very rough (i mean violent) and the referee didn't care of it.

  • Great to hear Serge Savard acknowledge Valery Kharlamov. Valery Kharlamov was spectacular.
