"that is so stoopid" (I spelled it how she pronounced it) - what a disrespectful thing to say when someone is performing. It's difficult enough without comments like that
@TheRushingWind Hi. The student's comment was not made with the connotation that you are describing. She is a very sweet girl who used the expression quite often whenever anyone did something funny to make her laugh. It was not meant in a hurtful, derogatory way and was not taken as such by the class. It's just one of those "slang terms" students create every now and again to express themselves. I never even considered that it could be interpreted as such by the YouTube audience. Thank you.
@SpeechandDrama you may not think the students took it badly, but have you asked any of them alone? Negative comments can make things very difficult for performers, regardless of the intention.
@TheRushingWind I am not trying to argue with you because you are raising valid points. Negativity in this setting must be taken very seriously and addressed promptly and properly. Thus, this discussion is valuable. However, this video was taken after this group had been working together for two years. Students enjoyed each other's company and were very close. Again, the term did not have a negative connotation, and I believe any of the performers would tell you the same. Thank you.
@SpeechandDrama again with that "i believe". I think it's such a shame when people feel so comfortable with something they don't ever ask questions or consider that maybe once not everything's rosy, just assuming everything's fine and dandy.
I've forgotten about this game! I'm teaching a Music and Creative Arts class with some middle school students, using Aesop's fables. This may be a great idea to help get some of my more shy students to participate....or at least get them laughing. :)
