This was the "HIPPEST" band of the 80s.This is no small claim as I know of around 300 fem rock metal bands over the past 30 years. Its why I started a TOTALLY FEM METAL CHANNEL to feature them. First girl band to write their own songs and play their own instruments. Gotta love the Go Gos. They came from the hardcore punk scene in L.A. and brought a 50s-early 60s bubble-gum sound to punk rock. That's what the best bands do. Billy Idol did the same thing.
They used to play with violent hardcore punk bands like TSOL, The Vandals, Black Flag, The Germs, Rhino 39, China White, the middle class, The Crowd, etc.
You can even find their old punk vids from 78-79 on youtube.
This is really a great song. Classic Go Gos sound. Belinda is a vastly underrated singer. Has great phrasing. Totally appropriate. The Bass line working under really anchors and drives it down. Completely makes the song work as well as it does.

Just recently had my heart broken by a lady that looks like Belinda does in the video. In fact the lady in question has a pic on facebook black shirt, and hairstyle the same. Will I stop enjoying this video because the Heart Breaker looks like BC? Not a chance, BC was first, the HB came later.

The year this song was #1 my favorite baseball team, the Dodgers had just won the World Series and the Lakers were on top of the world, USC had a Heisman winner in Marcus Allen and UCLA was still among the best in Westwood and the Rams had just been to the Super Bowl. And Reagan had just been elected President. California even had a cool governor, Jerry Brown and the next two that followed were pretty good. And I was a Bama kid watching all this from 2,000 miles away. What a group!

Who the hell is Katy Perry think she is? Are you frickin kidding me? That's what I think when I hear this music from 29 YEARS AGO! This group didn't have to run around singing songs about getting their butts grabbed in their jeans and doing PSA's for the LGBT movement in their songs. They had talent (unfortunately with that came Carlisle's drug problems) and there music was a symbol of California without a word or having Ryan Seacrest kiss their behind. It was a different era, a better one.
