  • Personally the worst thing people can do are the mile long one block bridges people keep doing. Yeah it may be challenging but not every rom hack I try needs to have them, especially if a cape is not offered.

  • Some of the things in this video are acceptable, BUT ONLY IF THE PLAYER SHOULD EXPECT IT. These tend to be either puzzle hacks (solving the Kaizo Trap or glitch) or parodies of truly bad hacks (very difficult to pull off).

  • The only thing I didn't see mentioned was the random invisible blocks that get in your way when you try to jump across a cliff and as a result, the invisible block makes sure you fall down the cliff.

    This was indeed a very useful video though. And, yeah, I've seen those romhacks with the floating clapper things or whatever and it looks so damn retarded and it's sadistic too.

  • in lunar magic open the 16x16 tile editor window, go to the clod tile and click 16x16 attirbutes. then type 12F in the gameplay properties thing and it will act like a chomper.

  • @MegaZack30 Because it makes the entire life system meaningless. Which I guess is okay if that's what you're aiming for, but taking away any sort of penalty for death doesn't sit well with players looking for a challenge.

  • @23cool1234 I don't think there should ever be a victory death. I mean, if you beat the level, you have beaten the level. Once you pass the goal the challenge should be over.

  • what all causes glitches graphics? I know of: yoshi and baby yoshi on the same screen, yoshi and fireball on same screen (the one that only appears in castles), giant boo and other ghosts not in ghosthouse (i think this glitches them).

  • The glitch with Dragon Coins across subscreen boundaries doesn't just apply to Dragon Coins. If you put any extended object with an animation (such as a climbing net door or the switch palace switches) across a screen boundary, it will glitch and cause a cutoff.

  • Also, notice how when Mario collects the Dragon Coin on the left, it gives him TWO coins instead of just one. This is because touching the bottom half of a Dragon Coin placed across the subscreen boundary will cause you to repeatedly and continuously collect it without it disappearing, eventually resulting in ridiculous amounts of 1ups. Once you touch the top half, however, the coin gets cut-off and you can't get infinite lives from the remaining bottom half, as shown in the video.

  • @NWreaper if you want to make it challenging, some of this can be put in, but not all of it. There are good challenging hacks and bad challenging hacks.

  • @pokepal1996 To an extent, but not to the extent of not being able to progress in the level, or having to die if it's not pressed. If it like, opens a path to a pipe and is >optional< than it's considered fine. It's also acceptable that you require a switch to progress, as long as you make a side-exit or something. (I don't really like that idea though.)

  • floating munchers are annoying to even look at. Why can't people put some cement bricks underneath them at least?

  • @djohnson87 well, if by cement brick you mean map 16 tile that uses cement graphics but acts like nothing, allowing you to pass through, I guess. But it is easier to change the graphics to something other than munchers

  • @268Danilo For the dragon coin: open your level in lunar magic and press F2, you will notice the screen will divide into several subscreens divded by green lines and labeled with numbers like (00: top; 00:botom; 01: top; 01: bottmom) ect. if the dragon coin is in the green line that separates the top subscreens with the bottom subscreen it will glitch up, so you just have to move it.

    I'm too lazy to explain how to edit the intro, it's not verry hard, but it's long. Try looking for a tutorial.

  • Well, I'll be honest. while I do agree with most of those rules, I do have a couple I have issues with...

    1. The whole dishonest block thing. I personally think it can lead to some cool levels, as long as your consistent with what they do, and give warnings if they are malicious. (such as a red ! block inserted as a tile or something.)

    2. not using the bottom row. as above, it can lead to some funny things. as long as you don't have it run off like it does in the video.

    I'll continue this.

    That's not much of a problem, if you'd just make sure it's clear the player has to activate the Green Switch, the player doesn't die right after entering the level, and having side-exits enabled so the player can leave without dying if he hasn't yet activated the Green Switch.
