Avatar was written in 1993 before Eragon and Pocahontas, did you know that? people are too damn lazy to do their research on films nowadays like i do. Cameron had the idea since 1988 and wrote it on a piece of paper then he wrote an 80 page screenplay in 1993 and he wanted to film it for a 1999 release date after Titanic but he decided to put it off for a while and put the script in a drawer as he had to wait for the technology to do justice to his vision

Avatar is and always will be my favourite movie. The graphics were stunning, the plot was amazing and touching, and you could really grow attached to the characters.

@nintendoskater well James wrote the script long before accentually making the film and did in fact mention that if avatar did well he would indeed make another one, he had already started a script for the second one before the first one was even released simply so that it will be released as soon as possible if need be.
The sequel is apparently meant to be about the underwater life on Pandora and i think it will be even more visually stunning then the first
The movie just show us how to do it the right and the wrong way. I hope we will learn soon to go one step back. Even Earth is an Paradise, we don't need Pandora ;). Trying to make things better making it worse it seems.
all i knwo is this movie isnt jsut a movie its US its all about the human race. Avatar in my opinion is better than the Hurt Locker. Everyone says that Avatars story was cliche or that it was UN-original... I dare raise the question, what movie today honestly has an original story. Avatar excelled in almost every category and made me feel a whole bunch of emotions, while watching it. I believe in the future people will still love it as much as the day they first watched it. Hurt Locker was good, don't get me wrong, but I thought Avatar was better.
I'm not sure why people hate this movie, when you're in the cinema watching it, it's an enjoyable experience, which at the end of the day is what you want at the end of the day, even if the plot is unoriginal or cliched.

Um... Middle East? The Hurt Locker was a cool movie. Avatar is just not that original. Yes, the visuals are stunning, but the oscars were always about the story and the acting. The Hurt Locker accomplished a lot on a tiny budget. Avatar is animated, a bleeding edge cartoon made on a quarter billion dollar budget. In 10 years Avatar will not seem as cool to you unless you end up like the fat old Star Wars douchebags who worshiped it since the 70s and got married dressed up as a storm trooper
for those with major gripes about the hurt locker's success, the academy awards isnt about popularity or entertainment value. if you want recognition for that, there's the people's choice awards. what its about is the overall quality of the picture. while the visuals are stunning in avatar, you cannot deny that the story is extremely cliched. the hurt locker brought something fresh to an old genre and took realism and authenticity to a new level (though not perfeclty).
how was it cliched? have you not seen dances with wolves? pocahontas? yes, i realise in hollywood a lot of plots are rehashed but with an orginal story, this film could truly have been a revolutionary masterpiece instead of being a visual fest with a predictable narrative.

Avatar absoluty stunned me.... the plot , the music, the culture of the Navi..... that film made me want to be a Navi as well but i know it will never happen..... :-(... God bless you James Camoren.

The music is so - elvish. Thats how I think of the Na'vi, anyway, if I should compare them to something that already exists.
Have you noticed that the music is build up like the one in Lord of the Rings? Several melodies over the same idea. It makes me feel comfortable.

@nintendoskater well James wrote the script long before accentually making the film and did in fact mention that if avatar did well he would indeed make another one, he had already started a script for the second one before the first one was even released simply so that it will be released as soon as possible if need be.
The sequel is apparently meant to be about the underwater life on Pandora and i think it will be even more visually stunning then the first

The movie just show us how to do it the right and the wrong way. I hope we will learn soon to go one step back. Even Earth is an Paradise, we don't need Pandora ;). Trying to make things better making it worse it seems.

all i knwo is this movie isnt jsut a movie its US its all about the human race. Our desire for resources destroying a planet, our greed pushing native off there land going back to the pocahante story again and to top it off this films shows us EXACTLY what human kind is and what we are doing to our world and to be honest if we did get to this stage in human history we would be the SAME we would be doing exactly this, this is the ONLY film ever to make me cry and im a bloke its not right.

@Star101Wars lol the story is EXACTLY THE SAME AS POCAHANTES or however you spell it, james cameron stole the story, nd jsut added in amazing special effects, lines, choreography and cg animations. along with the awesome planet it took place on.

Avatar in my opinion is better than the Hurt Locker. Everyone says that Avatars story was cliche or that it was UN-original... I dare raise the question, what movie today honestly has an original story. Avatar excelled in almost every category and made me feel a whole bunch of emotions, while watching it. I believe in the future people will still love it as much as the day they first watched it. Hurt Locker was good, don't get me wrong, but I thought Avatar was better.

I'm not sure why people hate this movie, when you're in the cinema watching it, it's an enjoyable experience, which at the end of the day is what you want at the end of the day, even if the plot is unoriginal or cliched.
Though i dont like how Fox and Cameron are milking it dry

Um... Middle East? The Hurt Locker was a cool movie. Avatar is just not that original. Yes, the visuals are stunning, but the oscars were always about the story and the acting. The Hurt Locker accomplished a lot on a tiny budget. Avatar is animated, a bleeding edge cartoon made on a quarter billion dollar budget. In 10 years Avatar will not seem as cool to you unless you end up like the fat old Star Wars douchebags who worshiped it since the 70s and got married dressed up as a storm trooper

for those with major gripes about the hurt locker's success, the academy awards isnt about popularity or entertainment value. if you want recognition for that, there's the people's choice awards. what its about is the overall quality of the picture. while the visuals are stunning in avatar, you cannot deny that the story is extremely cliched. the hurt locker brought something fresh to an old genre and took realism and authenticity to a new level (though not perfeclty).

how was it cliched? have you not seen dances with wolves? pocahontas? yes, i realise in hollywood a lot of plots are rehashed but with an orginal story, this film could truly have been a revolutionary masterpiece instead of being a visual fest with a predictable narrative.
