is it interesting seeing the difference in how they dealt with this situation and with Denise. I mean, this is an engagement, but with Denise, it was marriage, and not to mention she had a stepdaughter. However, they didn't seem as angry or disappointed then as they did with vanessa.

thats because denise is like 4 years older than vanessa and she wasnt in college. she went on a trip to africa for 6months. vanessa was only 18 years old and there paying for her educaton "remember how mad they were when sandra wasnt going to be a lawyer but work in a wilderness store with elvin" and clair said how much she owed them..lol...vanessa was suppose to be in college not off getting engaged..lol hope this kinda explains it.=)

I always found it interesting that the whole family is sitting at the table to begin this scene, and when the scene ends they're all gone. When do you think they split? I say it was somewhere around...."You'll have to forgive us, we just don't like you"...lol

The ending of that episode was the best. lol. One of my favorites! =} I love how in the epsodes after this one how Cliff and Dabnis got along so well. This has been me and my mom's favorite show since I was really little. It would be so cool to meet the WHOLE cast of The Cosby Show.

Vanessa LOVES to piss her parents off. She just came out the blue and said she's engaged andat this time she's in love with Dabnis while her parents are in shock and they dislike him. But later in the season when her parents began to like Dabnis they pushed Vanessa to set a date for the Wedding but she later dumped him because the passion was gone once her parets were warming up to Dabnis. It was fun because she felt they wouldnt approve of Dabnis but when they did that was it! Good storyline.

They don't hate Vanessa they're just like my parents and alot of other peoples' parents. You do something stupid and out of character they throw fire at you cause they do care maybe don't give you the best delivery but they care. They weren't thrilled with Denise when she got married either!

No, it's not that. They have high expectations for Vanessa. She's brilliant. She skipped her senior year of high school. But she constantly makes dumb mistakes over some guy and her parents are disppointed. Denise is whatever. She's such a flake that they don't waste their breath on her.

Remember Cliff didn't warm to Martin until he told Martin how upset he was that he missed his daughter's wedding & Martin assured Cliff that Denise, despite her rebellion, was still pretty traditional about some of their morals. THATS when he accepted Denise & martin.
