hi, 60GB Model here running an SSD drive, I bought MW3 last month and after playing for about 5 minutes i get kicked out of the campaign and get a disc read error however this only happens with MW3 I also bought Need for speed the run and I'm pretty close to the end of it however it gets to a certain stage in the race (always the same place) where the map isnt loaded and sometimes as the cut scene plays theres no sound could it be the blu ray drive causing this?
@KidFromUpTheStreet Oh, right. Since it only happens in some games... maybe it's the laser, maybe not. But maybe the laser is just dirty... why don't you remove the 2 covers from the PS3, remove the drive and clean the laser lens with a cotton swab and alcohol. Check youtube for good videos.
@PeronMiles If it will play a DVD but not a BluRay, the laser is dead. If it plays nothing... the laser is dead, or the drive controller board is dead or there is bad data on the hard drive that is stopping the drive from working.
@fixmyplaystation i dont know the model # it was an 80gb, i checked the thermal paste on my replacement one which i've had for little over a year now and the paste was really dry and there was hardly any left. I've re pasted it now tho.
@fixmyplaystation Umm since you get a lot of slims. Is there perhaps a chance you can make a prevent YLOD on a ps3 slim video series in the future? I suspect my slim is overheating after only two months and I can't seem to find any tutorials on slims, only on the older models.
can u show me how to replace a ps3 hard drive, Its pretty simple, But want to make sure there is nothing else to do besides just opening the side and sliding in a new hard drive. Thanks, Kim
@kimmyhh1 Yes, just slide the old one out... replace with a new one. Older model PS3s simply format the drive when you turn them on. Newer models might require you to re-install the firmware again.
Be careful not to strip the heads of the soft metal screws that hold the drive in it's "basket".

@KidFromUpTheStreet Don't see how the BD would be involved, but I've also never seen a PS3 with a solid state HDD.

Mine is not spinning and the laser lights up blue. Is the laser bad?
PeronMiles 3 months ago
@PeronMiles The eye is usually what dies, not the laser light.

@fixmyplaystation is there anyway i can tell if the blu ray board is bad?
PeronMiles 1 month ago
@PeronMiles You'd need to replace the laser or try your laser in someone else's PS3. If the laser is good, the board is bad.

You are the man... Best video to watch! was the most helpful in tips for remounting the laser..Thx

@flashjackson127 I am the man. At least the man in the video. Thanks.
The HOW TO UNJAM A PS3 DRIVE video is helpful if the kids jam a credit card in there, or if you have a YLOD machine and manually remove the disc.

Do the new ps3 get ylod? Or only the older ones
MrFuliskgreeks 10 months ago
@MrFuliskgreeks We and our colleagues are receiving YLOD slim PS3s already. Old PS3s need to be repasted after 3 years. Slims after 1 year.
