I just received a letter from the US Dept. of Commerce stating I will be sent the American Community Survey to fill out BY LAW. The LAW states the people are enumerated (counted) once every ten years.
This is an outright attack on our right to privacy & more! The Census demands we answer 72 highly intrusive personal questions then using fear of fines/jail should we fail to respond to their survey. Call 1-800-962-3524 - Ask for your congressional leader’s names/phone #s, tell them your complaints then demand they make the American Community Survey VOLUNTARY by supporting/passing Bill HR 3131.

Having worked for the 2010 Census (finished my last case recently) let me just clear up what seems like a few confusions people are having. Almost all Census employees work with the short form of the census. The Census and Census employees will seek to obtain information beyond how many people live in your house, but if you remain against it obtaining the number of people living there will be enough. Those other questions are not random. They help federal programs and to avoid duplication.

Actually she's right but there's more. 1 in 10 households receive part 2 of the Census, the American Community Survey, which asks very private info like: How much your home is worth, what your mortgage is, what time you go to work, where you work, your position at work, what kind of health insurance you have, etc. It isn't right to be required to give out such info. and then to be threatened to be fined or jailed.

Then he said the form was incomplete. Which is it? Did not receive or it was incomplete? When people are invasive on my property and lie to me, I do not think they deserve courteous.

There is no good explanation for why these forms were never received and counted. The post office certainly can't be blamed for all of them. Maybe a small percentage but certainly not all of them. 1790 when Census was first started there was no IRS , Now there is. Everyone living in your home and your telephone number and all information is sent to IRS every Year.. So why do they need a census anymore anyway. Tell the Census folks to get your Info from IRS. Then they went down the street and lurked in the neighbors driveway, and came back two more times today. They did the same yesterday. They asked for my full name and middle initial and took a GPS reading of my front door to associate with my name. They would not stop walking around my house; finally my friend Steve drove up and I opened the door for him and they drove up right behind him.
Listen to this one - I work for the census and at first it was; if you didn't want to answer most of the questions, other than the number of people and names, you were left alone. Now, the census is sending ALL incomplete questionaires back to us enumerators to be completed. Either by the home dwellers, their neighbors or I can look up their information online or at city hall! If for some reason you DO get fined, well..You're day court will come, and you can politely ask them how they knew if it was fact or fiction.. The majority of the 10 questions asked in the form are being asked since the year 1790. Go the 2010 census website and read the reasons on why a specific question is being asked. Having worked for the 2010 Census (finished my last case recently) let me just clear up what seems like a few confusions people are having. Almost all Census employees work with the short form of the census. The Census and Census employees will seek to obtain information beyond how many people live in your house, but if you remain against it obtaining the number of people living there will be enough. Those other questions are not random. They help federal programs and to avoid duplication.

Actually she's right but there's more. 1 in 10 households receive part 2 of the Census, the American Community Survey, which asks very private info like: How much your home is worth, what your mortgage is, what time you go to work, where you work, your position at work, what kind of health insurance you have, etc. It isn't right to be required to give out such info. and then to be threatened to be fined or jailed.

This information is compiled to justify how many hospitals, nursing homes, senior centers and schools to be built in your area. Again, your name is kept confidential with the Census Bureau for 72 yrs, and your privacy is protected by Titles 13 & 41 of the U.S. Code

Then he said the form was incomplete. Which is it? Did not receive or it was incomplete? When people are invasive on my property and lie to me, I do not think they deserve courteous.

There is no good explanation for why these forms were never received and counted. The post office certainly can't be blamed for all of them. Maybe a small percentage but certainly not all of them. Lying wasn't necessary. I hate being woke up from a nap but it's not life or death. Naps can happen anytime, census is once every 10 yrs.

Listen to this one - I work for the census and at first it was; if you didn't want to answer most of the questions, other than the number of people and names, you were left alone. Now, the census is sending ALL incomplete questionaires back to us enumerators to be completed. Either by the home dwellers, their neighbors or I can look up their information online or at city hall! @SpeiraCrotalus I agree with you completely. My family received 2 Census forms. One that was painfully long (10-12 pages) from the Dept. of Agriculture and the main 2010 Census (most people received- bifold). I was shocked to get a phone call from a Census worker with further questions. Obama will eventually announce that the US Constitution is antiquated and an unjust document that will no longer be valid in the US of A. I see it coming...

@noidea63 the Census questions are BS, long form or short forms. It doesn't really matter at this point, they got their answers...I want to see how these questions are going to truly help the budget funding crisis across America. It remains to be seen.

The majority of the 10 questions asked in the form are being asked since the year 1790. Go the 2010 census website and read the reasons on why a specific question is being asked. I'm completely blown away by the loons at FOX in trying to portray a census form (all countries of the world conduct it by the way) as something evil or sinister. The republican party's addiction to power and the extent to which they will go to reclaim it is shocking and scary.

@daarkmatter Maybe this is a violation that has been going on for quite some time, but the constitutional guidelines make it very clear that the government cannot ask us personal questions. They may only count us, and even then they cannot do it every year.

@WarThemedRevolution Since the 1800 census names and ages and other information has been included. Only in the very first census of 1790 was only a head count made. The constitution doesn't specify only a head count it says only "in such a manner as (Congress) shall direct. If Congress directs names, DOB or whatever that's what happens.

The quote you are taking is from Article 1 Section 2 and if you read the whole sentence it clearly states the enumeration." Indeed, the whole point is so that they can provide proper representation in the house based on population. There is not even a need to take names for this.-

@WarThemedRevolution Yes it's true that congress could direct the census bureau to go into your employment file and collect the information or maybe they could direct that we actually enter the home and physically count how many people in the home. They could direct the FBI to do it for that matter. Maybe they could direct the Soc. Security and Bureau of Vital statistics to join forces and gather the information that way. Maybe that would be better

@spanker6971 How you can see a sentence saying that congress can count us in such manners as they shall by law direct and take that to mean not that they can gather whatever information they want is above me. I do not feel you are being honest with yourself or me, and I think that you should be less concerned with who is right and more concerned with what is true.

@WarThemedRevolution I'm baffled by your concern about giving your name, sex, DOB, race and if you own or rent your home. You've probably given that information over a hundred times depending on your age. The constitution does not specify what information the census will gather just like it doesn't say anything about the right to privacy. It's all someone's interpretation.

@spanker6971 The problem I have is government agencies heaping additional power on themselves of their own volition. Like the Supreme Court granting itself the right of constitutional interpretation. The constitution is designed and lay out the specific roll of various government agencies. If an agency wants new power not mention in the constitution, such as forcing us to give away personal information-
