A very fine introduction to Ludwig the 2nd's fantastic world - but how did you manage to film the interior shots? I was informed there was neither video or regular photography allowed - so I had to rely on downloaded (and inferior) images. Beautiful work!
I'm sorry but the claim that Germany was not deeply rooted in history is just laughable. Germany as a "nation" yes, but Germany as the German people have been deeply rooted into European history. A title of a nation doesn't mean much, what the people did is what truly shapes the nation.
I love Germany so much. Went there last year unsuspectingly of what I was going to find and leaved it astonished because the country combines some of the most beautiful natural landscapes I've ever seen with some of the most amazing architectural marvels in the world. I want to visit it again next year because honestly three weeks wasn't enough.
i worked in the village between these 2 castles in the mid 80s . met some great people but sadly and regretfuly lost touch with them all at hotel lisl . . hmmmm happy days ,
Good job. My mutti is from Fussen. She would take me there to the Neuschwanstein Castle when I was a young boy in the 70's. Back when she was a little girl in the 1940's and 50's, you could tour every room, which she did, where as now you cannot. One of the things she told me about the castle is that King Ludwig insured that there was a swan figure in every room...not the term "schwanstein" . Just thought you would like to know that tip from a local who was born there.
I lived in Germany for 3 years and toured all of King Ludwig's castles. They were amazing and something I will always remember. Germany is just a beautiful place to get to live.
I love Germany SO much. Outside of the cities it's like a fairytale and the cities themselves are so interesting and cool. I want to travel there so bad.
i was here in 2003. the castle's are beautiful but it is very dissapointing that they do not allow you to see much of the interior. many of the rooms were closed off and i was very let-down. however, ludwig was a fascinating person and i would have loved to have met him. just imagining living in these castles with the king himself is so amazing. rip ludwig!
Was stationed in Munich 1959-1960. Spent a lot of time in the field during war games and training. Was alway fascinated with the clean countryside and clusters of medieval villages. Felt like I was on a different planet. Los Angeles, with brown, hazy skies and freeways seemed like a world apart from the charm of Bavaria and the Alping foothills.
I was here today. Yes, its beautiful but... Hearst Castle in California Id take any day of the year and its complete. This one has only 16 of 65 rooms complete. While Hearst had 5 warehouses of rare european antiques he never used. He could have finished Neunshwanstein with just one of them.
That one is a private palace, very beautiful but more recent. Neuswanschtein is some decades older, the difference this is a "royal" palace, and it is linked to the history of Bayern and his royal house. Ludwig III was a king that lived a fantasy tale...but the land was in peace and citizens were relatively happy. It is linked to national romanticism of the 19th century. Hearts Castle is a beautiful fancy, with mixed styles and zebras outdoors!!
Breathtaking. Even though I've just lost my breath, I can still use my keyboard. The precision, and detail involved in Neuschwanstein, is indescribable. Almost hard to believe it was built by mortal men.
been there twice

@thenikki0927 In other rooms is nothing to see. Ludwig had only finished a few rooms to lived in. All the other ones are completely empty.

I am buying this catle. I am also going back in time and protecting Ludwig from harm
Then he will build an even better castle than Neuschwanstein!
